Revision as of 06:37, 24 April 2013

I will get to every FLC and I will reply to comments I made on them. No need to hit me with "talkback" templates. If you're feeling particularly WP:BOLD, leave me a message here and update my to-do list! By the way, while I have admin and 'crat flags, I'm foremost commenting here as an editor. I am entitled to an opinion. If you think I've misused my admin tools or misused the 'crat tools, feel free to initiate their removal. Just let me know. Cheers!!

Name calling

Quit addressing me by perversions of my user name, it's uncivil. μηδείς (talk) 19:08, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Meds? You told me I needed Meds! I have ceased to address "you", just discuss your ongoing disruption. Oh, and "more Meds"! While you're here, stop using Misplaced Pages as Twitter. Finally, Pot/kettle. Stop your own "perversions" first! The Rambling Man (talk) 19:38, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
Meds advocating sex with animals... Very, very odd (odder, or otter).... The Rambling Man (talk) 22:00, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
Please cease this endless following me from thread to thread, the endless provocation, the name calling. Just step back and leave me alone. You are an admin, please act like it. With all due respect, he next step is an ANI report. μηδείς (talk) 22:05, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
You and I edit in the same place Meds, deal with it (mind you, nice to see you actually making a single mainspace edit here). By all means start a thread at ANI, I can't wait. You have a huge fan club waiting to discuss your edits. As my grandfather would have said "Put up, or shut up"... I'm waiting................ The Rambling Man (talk) 22:42, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Edit warring?

Me? Please justify why you think restoring clarity and meaning to that paragraph is warring. I note that you said nothing to the other editor who has hypocritically been rewriting that paragraph left, right and centre without discussion, and who seems more interested in showing off his prowess in using technical terms and point-scoring than in providing meaningful content to the article. Does he own the article? Are you frightened of him? Or what? Cobhama (talk) 22:51, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Did you miss the bit where I said "Can we just give Cobhama a chance to explain what he wants it to say and why? Thanks. "? The Rambling Man (talk) 10:32, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
Yes. Then you let him overwrite the paragraph that I had placed there, then when I tried to give the new paragraph some context (which it is badly lacking), you reverted me and accused me of edit warring! Cobhama (talk) 22:00, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
Discuss the issue on the talk page. Be the bigger man. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:00, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Just a note

Hey TRM, a couple of months back we had a pretty poor initial interaction. I wanted to start off by apologizing for that. Far more often than not, I'm very impressed by, and grateful for, your edits/actions, both as an administrator and as an editor. I'm also impressed by your rationality at ITN, even in cases where we disagree. In any case, thank you for all you've done for this project. Ryan Vesey 03:22, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

No worries Ryan. Sometimes things overheat, for one reason or another, we can just move on together, not a problem. Thanks for your note. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:35, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

List of Square Enix companion books

Just wanted you to know your issues seem to have been addressed with this article, and if so could you just leave a vote on whether or not the article should be a featured list? Thanks! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 18:41, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

I've commented there, hopefully more reviewers will do the same. I won't be supporting as I may need to close the candidate. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:07, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

The list is at FLC. Any chance that you could have a look at this nom? —Vensatry (Ping me) 19:05, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

As long as I get some time, I'll be looking at this whenever I can. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:08, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

NK Maribor players

Hello. Why have you closed the FLC for the NK Maribor players? I understand that the list has been a candidate for some time now, but it did recieve two additional reviews, which I have been actively working on for the past week (see article's history page: ). I was also in talks with Struway2 (see: User talk:Struway2 & User talk:Ratipok), who is one of the latest reviewers, and today he was about to do a copyedit of the article's lead. In my opinion, the list was 95% of being finished and all of the issues in the two open reviews would have been addressed by monday (it only needs couple of more references for the international players, the fixed symbol templates and the mentioned copyedit of the lead). So what am I to do now? Open another FLC candidacy? Lep pozdrav, Ratipok (talk) 11:15, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

Feel free to renominate it once the concerns have been addressed. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:14, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

List of people on United States banknotes

Hi TRM- Trying very hard to achieve consensus on this FLC. I have made every change suggested by Reywas92 (even some I don't quite agree with). Thanks--Godot13 (talk) 16:27, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

I can see that, good work. The Rambling Man (talk) 11:58, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Your comment at ANI

I didn't want to comment there and detract the discussion but I noticed the comment you left about admins protecting admins. I know that this probably rubs smoe admins raw when this is mentioned and certainly it doesn't apply to all of them. There are some fine admins and in fact most admins never or rarely use their tools or get involved in admin matters (a problem in and of itself IMO). It is a serious problem and does seem to be getting worse. I realize I have been a vocal and often times abrasive commenter about the US vs. THEM mentality between the admins and the editors. Yes I know I am one of the problem editors but there are a lot of admins that are the problem on the admin side too. Most editors do not want to get involved. I didn't used to get involved and I got raked under the coals and have seen that done to others so now I have grown tired of seeing powerless editors getting plowed under and I am speaking out. I didn't just start feeling this way I have felt this way and seen this problem for a long time but never said anything or did anything about it. That is my fault. I was too worried about how people perceived me and how it would affect my stature in the community. Since that is absolutely no longer an issue, I do not have to worry about it anymore. Kumioko (talk) 17:32, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

You're completely free to express your opinion Kumioko, don't worry about explaining it to me. I understand that many editors have been dissuaded by the behaviour of some admins, but I have to say, in this case, Carl has been nothing but professional, and Alan has been just the opposite. We all volunteer here, but Carl was given the trust of the community and is doing his "job" correctly by enforcing the wishes of the community. Alan shows no real sign of any remorse whatsoever at any point during this dull "episode". It's a real shame that Alan has transgressed the terms of his ban so many times, it's almost like he's doing it on purpose. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:36, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

advice needed on persistent sockpuppet vandal

We have a sockpuppet who daily (or twice daily) goes through an ever-growing list of Serbian tennis players and vandalizes them to his political pov. This has been going on for quite awhile now. He has been blocked many times. Case in point this morning every one of these articles were vandalized and reverted by this blocked editor. He changes anon IP's at the drop of a hat. original editor was likely User:Leandro da silva pereira santos but he has also morphed into User talk:Leandrorezendecarvalho033 and User talk:Leandrorezendecarvalho55 so he has no qualms about creating a real account and vandalizing with those either. I had reported this and was told a range block on his many ip's (189.27.186.102, 189.27.161.76, 177.18.153.40, 189.27.184.248, 177.134.43.143, 189.27.243.241, 187.113.206.13, etc...) would be too large.

I also requested (and got) semi-protection on Novak Djokovic, Marin Čilić, Jelena Janković, Ana Ivanovic...but to be effective I'd have to include all these new pages plus his daily increases. Lot's of Serbian tennis players out there plus he changes info on tennis articles that even have mention of the Serbian players. There's a handful of us editors simply reverting his daily routine and I mark each of his new ip's with "IPsock." Is there anything we can do that I haven't thought of? My routine right now is to use twinkle on his user contribution page to show his 20+ edits, click on each red "vandalize" that's next to each edit, and wait for his next anon ip to show up on my watch list of articles so I can do it again. I just want to make sure we have all our bases covered. Thanks. Fyunck(click) (talk) 19:47, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

I suppose the only thing I could suggest is that you publish a list of those articles most at risk from this sock at, say, WT:TENNIS and let regular (and semi-regular ) contributors know so we can add all the articles to our watch lists... The Rambling Man (talk) 19:51, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Talk page stalker. WP:RBI is always worth rereading. Reverting and whack-a-mole blocking and protecting is your only option, but do so calmly, without descriptive edit summaries, without referring to the sockmaster's name, as far as possible without starting onwiki threads referring to the vandalism, making everything utterly mundane will mean the thrill will dissipate and you should benefit with time. Sorry I have no better magic wand, but I've seen this work many times. --Dweller (talk) 20:21, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

What about tagging the anon IP user page with {{IPsock|originalblockededitor}}? I usually do that to let future editors know it's the same dude. But if you think that eggs the guy on then I'd refrain from that also. Fyunck(click) (talk) 20:35, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

BTW, I do think, as part of our "new leaf", we need a project, but one we actually finish.... What think ye? The Rambling Man (talk) 20:20, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
Yes, especially as it'll keep both our noses in mainspace where the most good exists to be done. I don't mind. Here's some contenders from User:Dweller/Featured:
  • Carrow Road - for the long neglected NCFC FT project that I don't think will ever happen because I don't care for some of the articles, esp the "seasons" ones
  • Bayern Munich v Norwich City - would be great. Needs some German source material I have to be translated.
  • Iwan Roberts - I have his entertaining book, which includes a lot of biog stuff, although it's buried in the story of the season he was describing)
  • Keith Miller - shouldn't be too difficult. I know nothing about Aussie Rules.
  • Cricket - you know my thoughts on that
  • Ted Alletson - do you know if we can have any old photo of him because he lived so long ago? --Dweller (talk) 20:41, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Another example of the kind of editor we can do without

Well I guess my fears have been confirmed at ANI that involved and harassment do not apply to admins. Its a terrible revelation to me. As a side note this is a prime example of the type of conduct that Misplaced Pages can really do without. People say I am a jerk but then they allow users like this to run around unfestered. Well I'm sorry I drug you into that discussion and I hope tomorrow is a better day for you. Good luck and happy editing. Kumioko (talk) 00:39, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Well INVOLVED has always excluded admins applying repetitive blocks. No need to apologise, I had a fine day yesterday, but of course I'm hoping for an even finer one today! The Rambling Man (talk) 06:31, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

One thing I've been wondering

What on Earth is whinging? ~ Amory (utc) 03:41, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

It's like a toned down version of whining. The Rambling Man (talk) 06:23, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
See whinge. The Rambling Man (talk) 06:49, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)::USUALLY replied to with the phrase, Shut your gob...Which by the way is a coal town slang for slag, which is a British slang that will get you beaten up. How ironic.Coal town guy (talk) 12:50, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

What is slang for "slag"? "Gob" means mouth. And by "slag" do you mean a loose woman or the refuse from the coal industry? --Dweller (talk) 13:09, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
Most of my folks were Scottish or Welsh, when ever I heard the term, even in an English setting it meant that the woman in question was the village bicycle. Everyone got a ride, and she was well worn. NOT the thing to bring up at a wedding party, UNLESS you like drunken brawls, which I suppose, can be fun. To the point, YES, you are correct. OF NOTE, whinging, is NOTthe same as taking a piss, which is a far more angry directed statement. I suppose one who winges, is a moaner and groaner, a complainer. The person who you would have zero iaaue with strapping to a chair with duct tape and beating them with a rusty claw hammerCoal town guy (talk) 13:13, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
You've really confused me. What's the connection between girls of loose moral fibre and "shut your gob"? --Dweller (talk) 13:31, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
Ah, I see. This sort of quandry demands an example. Example, you have met a young lady with whom you have developed feelings.....SADLY, when your friends meet her, a sly grin crosses the face of your best mate. Over a few thousand beers he lets slip, thats a slag OR she is a slag or (MORTAL INSULT) I have banged that slag....(your lady friend). THEN in true drunken manner you reply, SHUT YOUR GOB or I will stick my fist in it and shut it for you. ERGO, at this point, the rules of drunken disorderly behavior demand that you either A) Apologize in a profuse manner, or B)Knee your mate in the balls and begin to beat him like a rented pack mule.Coal town guy (talk) 13:56, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Dweller, see Spoil tip for another type of slag and gob! The Rambling Man (talk) 13:59, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

I have learned so much. ~ Amory (utc) 14:05, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

OF NOTE: Gob was alo a slang used in KY coal mines as well. NOT so much in WV, possibly Southwest.Coal town guy (talk) 14:07, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
If this is educational, I suppose it's worth pointing out that you have also been ambiguous over "take a piss". You might mean either of two things, but neither really makes sense in the context. "Take the piss" means to make fun of. "Take a piss" means to urinate. Neither of them is an "angry directed statement". --Dweller (talk) 14:17, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
I beg to differ. Taking a piss (in this context) has been in my experience a rather negative omen. I can see and agree to some extent, that yes, there is some fun being made, but as usual, the line is a very fine one and hence why I would suggest its not really in "humor". Well, this has been a knee slapping time for me. There is humor in the slang certainly, BUT then again, as I have been totally Americanized, I prfer the slangs here, as they tend to be a tad more direct. My favorite thus far is "driving the meat truck to tuna town", the idea that intercourse could be said so graphically described won me over. Oh well back to editingCoal town guy (talk) 14:30, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Banknotes list

TRM, I know as moderator you prefer not to get involved in others' reviews, but surely you understand my point that the material in the notes section is irrelevant and violates WP:TRIVIA. I apologize that I am being demanding, but I feel this definitely does not belong in the article. Godot13's last reply was sardonic, and he has still left three trivial factoids in the article, while the rest have simply been commented out, perhaps to be added back later. I do not wish to withdraw my oppose, but I want you to go ahead and promote the article as you see fit. Thanks, Reywas92 18:30, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker). I supported it, and I respect your oppose. I would however consider that folks who do and do not collect are VERY focused on the details of these articlesCoal town guy (talk) 18:38, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
Reywas92, thanks very much for getting back to me. Odd thing is, we have many lists which may demonstrate your WP:TRIVIA opposition, but generally the "trivia" is there to provide at least a minimal amount of context to our global audience. I think Godot13 is doing his best to accommodate your and his wishes, you're alone in your opposition which always makes it hard "to try to please all the people all the time". Thanks for your note, I appreciate your candour, I'll discuss this with Godot13 (although I'm sure he's well aware of the postings here as he's posted here a few times) to understand the rationale behind the "commenting out" (I can see where you're coming from). Thanks again for your interest in the FLC process. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:46, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
I responded to Reywas92's comment on his talk page. Commenting out certain items allows me or anyone with sufficient interest to look at the raw text to see omitted information. As I convey on Reywas92's talk page, there is no premeditated plot to re-enter the data... Thanks--Godot13 (talk) 21:03, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
