Jung Joon-Young(정준영 鄭俊英 born February 21, 1989) is an Indie Band singer("Flowermist" & "Switchon") and songwriter born in South Korea but raised in Indonesia, China, Europe (England and France)and Philippines. Jung Joon-Young lived in the ten different countries because his father was a business man . He had a lonely young childhood but learned how to speak five different languages (English, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and Korean).

Jung Joon-Young moved to Philippines by himself for a missionary work when he was 17. He taught Taekwondo and music to Philippines' children. When he taught songs to the children with guitar playing, he started to have a dream to be a rock star. He went to South Korea at his age 19 and started to perform in the amateur club theater and went to Japan to perform in the theater and to busk on the street. For a living as a rock star he did a model job and participated in TV show. He contracted with a "Danal Entertainment" and later with "Startory Entertainment" and he made his own band "Flowermist"(later "Switch-on").

Jung Joon-Young finished with third place in Superstar K4(similar to American Idol in America))and he is doing concerts, TV& Radio programs(guest and host) and model for a car,clothes, games and N-screen.

Biography

1989–2005 (Early Life)

Jung Joon-young was born in South Korea,on February 21, 1989 to father who is an international business man and travel around the world and recently staying in China for a business. Jung Joon-Young's mother and his older brother,Joon-Ha staying in Jae-Ju Island in South Korea. Shortly after Jung Joon-young's birth, his family moved to Jakarta, Indonesia.5 years later, the family moved to China and lived 5 years. While his father staying in China, Jung Joon-Young's mother and his older brother moved to Europe. They lived in England and France until Jung Joon-Young turned to 17. He couldn't get a regular school education because of the frequent moving around the world, but he was raised in his mother's high educational desire. He took a private lesson for a regular subject such as Math and English, violin,piano and Taewondo(level 4 Black Belt). Especially he was awarded by violin contest when he was 8 years old.

2005–2007 (Adolescence Age)

When Jung Joon-young turned to 17, 2005, he decided to go to Phillippines to do a missionary work. He taught Taekwondo and music to the third country's poor children. He was a member of choirs which performed before the president of Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. While teaching music with a guitar, he recognized his dream to be is a singer.

2007–2012 (Career Beginning)

In 2007, Jung Joon-young left Philippines and went to South Korea to be a rock star. He contracted with a "Danal Entertainment", but this producer didn't provided what he needed. He left this producer and went to "Startory Entertainment" to be a main vocalist of LEDApple . This group was marketed " Idol rock band " and first revealed on September 27, 2010. He interviewed with Japan Broadcast when he was practicing member of LEDApple" I did classic music when I was a elementary Grade 2 student,I played xylophone, cello, piano,violin and I started band when I was a middle school student. I'm working so hard to make a successful band and I want to perform not just in South Korea and also in Japan too." Unfortunally Jung Joon-young couldn't début with this team because of the terms of his deal with the formal producer "Danal Entertainment". This producer released Jung Joon-young's single album while he was auditioning for Superstar K4 in 2012 without his agreement. This was including "Love N Hate" (MP3 streaming), "Love N Hate" (Inst.), "1,000miles" (MP3 streaming), "1,000miles"(Inst.) which was released on Oct 11, 2012 and "Fantasy" (MP3 streaming), "Fantasy" (Inst.) which was released on Nov 11, 2012 even thought this album was recorded long time ago.

At 22, Jung Joon-young made his own band "Mist" on 2010 with Gi-jun(Bassist), Sung-Min(Guitarist), Joon-Wu(drummer).They performed in Club FF and Cafe Ben James in HongDae and busked on the street. During 2010 to 2011 Park Ji-ho came to as a sub-vocalist and Joon-Wu left team for school and the name of "Mist" was changed into "Flowermist" with new guitarist Hyung-wu and drummer Jae-chun. At Aug 2011, Japan BS11 Broadcasting invited "Flowermist" to Shibuya Japan. They performed in the clubs and busked on the street with a cover song "For You"(Yim Jae-bum)," Run to the sky" (Lee Juk),"Harder to breath"(Maroon 5), "Black or white" (Michael Jackson)", "What to say"(YB Band) and their own song "If" ,"Raindrop", "Fright by night"and "Snow Forest" . Also they were invited in Flying Walrus' concert as a special guest in Oct 2011.

Jung Joon-young and Hyung-wu(guitarist) left the team and came back to South Korea on Dec 2011 to make a new band " Bad Prince" with a new drummer Sung-hyun and bassist Laura . He changed the team's name to "Switchon" and performed in the club "FreeBird" in HongDae. Jung Joon-young made lyric for "Perfume" which was composed by Gi-Jun. They wanted to be more popular as a rock band, so they decided to participate in SuperStar K4. After a first audition, Laura left the team and they couldn't continue the audition as a band any more. Jung Joon-young decided to continue the SuperStar K4 audition as a solo.

During this same period, Jung Joon-young worked as a model to keep his passion on the rock music. Even thought they performed in the clubs, his unknown rock band was still suffering to pay to rent. Jung Joon-Young worked at the several different web shopping malls such as a "Aboki"(clothes) which is his friend Park Tae-joon is a CEO, "Mens-on"(clothes), "Elvandress"(clothes), "Secomdalcom"(clothes) ,"Pinkage"(wig and contact lens), "FashionN"-Royal Top CEO season2 (cable home shopping with Oh Cho-hee).Also he was on the advertisement for "BGFretail"(franchise retail) and participated to the some other singer's music-video such as "Twinkle"(트윙클 by TTS -Girls' Genelationand "Beverage Bottle"(술병 by Haha). ) . As a struggling artist, Jung Joon-young participated in the TV show "Ulzzang Genelation season 5" (Ep.1~Ep.8) and he recalled this time as "People doesn't like this program because they think this program is about the just good looking boys and girls are chatting on the TV show, but it was a good opportunity for me because it was good money."

2012~ Present: (Entertainment and touring)

Jung Joon-Young did the first audition for Superstar K4 in DaeJeon with the "switch-on" band members. After the first local audition, bassist Laura left the team and Jung Joon-Young continued second audition with a song "What to say"(Breeze)" by himself on Aug 17,2012 in Seoul. Bak Jee-Youngdidn't satisfied with his instability tone, but Lee Seung-Chul and Lee Ha-Nul liked his unique voice.

When Jung Joon-Young sang "BakHa Candy" on the Superweek audition on Sep.29, PSY, one of the main judges, was so impressed by his appearance and unique voice. Later on,PSY interviewed he predicted Jung Joon-Young would be a winner(on "TAXI" TV Show).On the collaboration week., Jung Joon-Young was a team leader on Sep 14. Even thought he did a great performance, Oh Soo-Jung who was one of his team forgot the lyric so he had to have a responsible for his team's failure. After the retrying among the contestants who failed he got a one more chance. Jung Joon-Young was saved again by PSY after the rival match with Roy Kim and the song "After turning into dust"(먼지가되어,Jung Joon-Young changed this Ballard song to the rock version) became the best duet audition song" )

In the first week of live shows, Jung Joon-Young sang "Waiting Every Day" (매일매일 기다려,Teesams). PSY said " I liked your action and showmanship so try to find your best style soon." Yoon Mi-Rae said "You have a good star quality and I liked your energy.That performance was really great ". Jung Joon-Young ended up with the second place.

After the first Live audition judge PSY left for his world tour of "GangNamStyle" and Yoon Gun replaced. For the Top 9 live audition,Jung Joon-Young sang "Bed of the Roses"(Bon Jovi). He laid down on the bed and started to sing.It was first time ever contestant for audition sang on the bed. Yoon Mi-Rae said " You showed your seriousness and emotion." Yoon Gun said "That song choice was too perfect for your voice.It was good, but if you choose too perfect song for your style,you will be in the danger."

On the following week's live audition, Jung Joon-Young was under the too much pressure. His song choice was "That is all my life" (그것만이 내 세상,DulGookWha 들국화) but his tone was out pitched and judges gave him cruel comment.Just before the live,on the screen he described about his lonely childhood and missionary work in Philippines with poor children.Even thought he did the huge mistake he ended in 2nd place. He recalled this time " I thought I'm out this time.When they called my name safe, I felt so sorry someone else who had to get out from this competition instead of me".

Finishing the third live audition with a wrong song choice,many people recommended him to change his music style from rock to Ballard. For the fourth live on Nov.02, the mission was "My Style". Jung Joon-Young said " If the mission is my style, I have to do a ROCK." His song choice was "Outsider".(BomYuRumGaUlGyeUl 봄여름가을겨울)) and the lyric was about "I don't care how somebody else looks at me". He decorated his own stage with fire and dancing girls around him. For the opening,he said " Everyone can be a out of tone once in their life" and he started sing. Yoon Gun said "I saw your seriousness and it was a great performance.You are a star package and as a singer today is your staring point". Lee Seung-Chul said " You are a amazing appearance of existence. The song choice was great and the performance was like your own stage manner.I could see your best trying today and I impressed with your seriousness.That was a really charismatic stage." This time he got applauded by all of the judges and audiences and he finished with 2nd place again.

The fifth mission on Nov.09 was a TV viewers' choice.Superstar K4 announced a week before so people could web posting the song which would be perfect for their favorite contestant.Jung Joon-Young's fans gave him a Rock-Ballard song "Emergency Room" (응급실, IZI) . This song was marked as the best song for his whole audition. Lee Seung-Chul said "You have a great fandom already and you'll success when you debut after this audition.You are crawling from the cliff and you can cry from deep inside" and Yoon Gun judged him as " There is a 90's rock spirits inside you .I think your fans know you more than you know yourself. That was a really good song choice.I think this kind of the soft rock is your style. " He ended with 2nd place again and he performed one more duet song "Creep" with Roy Kim(a winner of SuperstarK4).

The 6th Live was a "Judge's Mission", so each judge chose one contestant to teach him with the judge's own song. Jung Joon-Young was chosen by Lee Seung-Chul and he was trained with a song "Did you forget(잊었니)".Yoon Mi-Rae said "Today's performance was most comfortable ever and you'll be a big star in the future." and Yoon Gun praise Jung Joon-Young's fast development through the audition. Lee Seung-chul gave his own disciple the lowest mark after he saying "My fans and I know what you did wrong." Jung Joon-young changed three words from "many(수많은)" to "deer(소중한)", "always(늘)" to "again"(또), "barely"(간신히) to "eagerly'(간절히). He eliminated on the semi-final(60).

In the interview after the audition(61), Jung Joon-Young said " Superstar K4 was a big turning point in my music life. Before the audition only certain people who liked the rock style listened my music but now more diversity people likes my music and recognize me. I'm so proud of myself on the last round because I prepared so hard and I think I did well. I applauded myself whatever the result was. I'm really happy now because I showed myself and my music to the people"

After the audition, "SuperstarK4 Top12 concert]" started from Dec 20,2012 until Dec 31,2012."Supervoice Show]"was another concert singing along with other audition's contestants. KoreaGM gave a chance for a open concert in Coex Millennium Center on Mar 01,2013. He sang "Polly"(Nirvana), Too much love will kill you"(Queens),"BakHa Candy"(YB) and "What to say"(Breeze). On Mar 23,2013, Jung Joon-Young participated as a special guest at the "DongKyoDong Art People" concert in "UNIQLO-AX"(74) and he sang "Rape me"(Nirvana), "Have a nice day"(Bon Jovi),"Love Addict"(Vamps),"IF I confess you'll be surprised"(SanUlLim) with "DickPunks"(Superstar K4 2nd place).Mnet asked Jung Joon-Young to do a open concert to cast more contestant for SuperstarK season5. His songs were " Into the rain"(빗속에서,Lee Moon-Se), "Under the shade of a tree-line"(가로수아래서면,Lee Moon-Se) and "Monalisa"(모나리자,Cho Yong-Phil).

TV Program

Jung Joon-Young was on the TV show "Ulzzang Generation season5" (June 2011~ Sep 2011) before the audition participation. This program is about that good looking girls and boys from the real life chatted and gamed together. Jung Joon-Young's friends are "Ulzzang(good looking boys)" so he participated this program following his friends. On Feb.2012 and July 2012, he was invited "Ulzzang generation season 6" with special guest too. On Dec.03, "Beatle's Code" was a first entertainment program Jung Joon-Young was guested after his audition. He showed his sense of humour, a talent of a dance and an ability of five languages. On Dec10, 2012 Jung Joon-Young went to HongKong to film the "TAXI" and met PSY with Kim Gu-Ra and Jun Hyun-Mu (hosts of "TAXI") before the MAMA( Asia Music Award) start. At this interview PSY said " I prefered Jung Joon-Young as a winner because his mental is so special and unique. He looks so alike when I was début." Next TV entertainment program was "M!count down]" and "Tree Idiots". Especially on "Three Idiots", Jung Joon-Young was only guest through the whole program gaming with Li Su-Gun,Yun Gee-Won and Gun Hyun-Mu (Hosts). On mar 21,2013, Jung Joon-Young was guested on the game TV program "to be a king"and played online game with Kim Tae-Hyun (singer of Dickpunks, 2nd place in Superstar K4).

From Jan 28,2013 to Mar 03,2013, Jung Joon-Young(with Roy Kim: a winner of Superstar K4) became a DJ on the Radio "Music Party"(정오의 희망곡) for Kim Sin-Young who had a health issue.

Jung joon-Young got attention from the beginning of the audition cause of his appearance and unique behaviour. The company's advertisers gave a love call to hire him as a model when the audition was over.The OB beer" hired him as aCassmodel" during the audition. KoreaGM"(62) hired him as a "Chevrolet" car model ).Jung Joon-Young worked for "JaeILMoJik" as a fashion model for "Bike Repair Shop" clothes .
