'MTV Splitsvilla, is an Indian television reality show that airs on MTV India. The series is based on the American dating reality show Flavor of Love.

Summary

The reality show revolves around young boys and girls try to secure a place in Splitsvilla which is a "Villa". It's a 'hunt for love' show where boys and girls compete in tasks to stay in the competition and mingle with the contestants to find love. In the end, one boy and one girl are crowned the winners of Splitsvilla (they are a couple.) There is a lot of fights, jealousy, hatred, friendship, backstabbing and love when all these 16 wild contestants get together. There are also a King and Queen that have dumping powers.

Season 1

The season 1 was hosted by VJ Rannvijay Singh, the winner of MTV Roadies Season 1. In this season, two boys, Varun Saini, a former participant of MTV Roadies 5.0 and Vishal Karwal, of MTV Roadies 4, find the ultimate girl of their dreams by choosing from 20 girls by putting them through grueling "tests". The girls battle stress, politics, exhaustion, fear, bitchiness and other such emotional challenges to be the chosen one and avoid humiliation of getting dumped. The girl who is dumped leaves the show and goes back home. In this manner, a winner is selected by elimination.

Of the final three (Shraddha, Heena and Prianca), Shraddha emerged as the winner and became the queen of "Splitsvilla". Shraddha then goes on to choose Vishal. Though the decision wasn't finally Shraddha's. Vishal, the champion was challenged by Varun, the challenger. They had to fight over 3 contests and the winner of 2 out of 3 was to be declared the ultimate winner. Vishal came out a clear winner by winning the first two in which the first victory saw Vishal beating Varun in Varun's territory.

Winners Shraddha and Vishal got to host a weekly show on MTV India, titled MTV Couplesutra which is a 10-minute show in which they discuss one "reel-life" couple, one real-life couple and one break-up. Prianca joined an acting school in Mumbai. Bianca and Simran appeared in "Bechaare Zameen Par" (a take on the Bollywood film Taare Zameen Par which was aired on MTV). Vishal currently plays the male lead in the show "Rishtonse Badi Pratha" aired on Colors TV.

Season 2

The Season 2 of Splitsvilla had 10 boys and 10 girls selected from auditions. This season was hosted by MTV India VJ Nikhil Chinappa.

Season 3

In Season 3, there were 5 couples, 5 single boys and 5 single girls who came to stay in the villa.

Season 4

The Season 4 of Splitsvilla had 4 boys and 13 girls selected from auditions. The first episode of the show was aired on December 3, 2010. This season is being hosted by MTV India VJ Nikhil Chinapa.

Format The girls were divided into 4 groups(Qabilah) which were headed by each boy.

Summary

FINALE

A roulette game based on luck was played between the three pairs of finalists: Manish and Pooja, Sai and Tina, and Dushyant and Priya. This first task was won by Sai and Tina who went directly to the finals. The second task was between Manish-Pooja and Dushyant-Priya on who would join Sai-Tina for the final task. This was an obstacle task. This was won by Dushyant-Priya who next joined Sai-Tina in the final face-off. The final task was won by Dushyant-Priya, and hence were declared the winners of Splitsvilla 4.

Season 5

The season began at the beginning of April, with 8 girls, and eight boys. Contrary to the last two seasons, this season has been set in Uttarakhand, India. The villa is located somewhere outside the Jim Corbett National Park. Up till now, all tasks have been set in the national park. The season was hosted by Nikhil Chinapa. The season finale was aired on 24 June 2012 on MTV India. The final competition to win Splitsvilla 5 title was fought between Vroon and Jasmine as a couple and Paras and Akanksha as the other. Paras and Akanksha went on to win the title of Splitsvilla 5- Love Gone Wild.

Summary

Season 6

This season premiered on May 25th and was is hosted by Sherlyn Chopra and Nikhil Chinappa. It is tagged as "Hot as Hell". There are 8 males and 8 females. Controversies after Splitsvilla 2

Sexual Exploitation

A month after the second season of Splitsvilla ended, some of the contestants claimed that the show’s crew members had engaged in sexual acts with other contestants.

Swaagata G Shah, a contestant from Season 2, claimed in a tabloid that there were exchanges of sexual favors between contestants and important people of the production team, including anchor Nikhil Chinappa, to get undue advantages in the contest. Later, contestants Varun Jhamb and Nalini Negi who had been eliminated early on in the show, alleged that ‘some crew members, including the director, had slept in the same room as top contender Joanna Magee, and others engaged in sexual favours, especially towards the end.'

In response, Nikhil Chinappa said, ‘I don’t want to comment on it. The channel will come out with an official statement soon. After all, it’s about the channel’s image and mine.’ Rajiv Laxman (creative director of the show) said: ‘I firmly disagree with these allegations. We have strict rules that prevent the mingling of the crew with the cast. Swagata was the first contestant to be eliminated and didn’t even spend a night at the villa. She doesn’t have any inkling of the way things work there.’

Racial Slur

One of the contestants on the show Mohit Malhotra, has been accused of using a racial slur after he called Siddharth Bhardwaj, a "Nepali with 'chinky' eyes". This caused obvious discomfort to India's North East Community, many of whom have oriental facial features. Though the show is unscripted, the network and the sponsors have been accused of supporting such racial slurs by not bleeping the content after they decided to air it.

Another such incident took place in the fourth season, when Aakriti had a verbal fight with Payal Thapa. The racial slur that was used was beeped out and later Nikhil at the dumping ground raised the issue telling Aakriti not to "advertise her ignorance anymore" and that serious actions will be taken if it happens here after.

Impact

The reality show revolves around young boys and girls vying to secure a place in bed with each other with the sole purpose of getting laid. The sharp take on promiscuity, that the youth of India is deemed to have been scarred with, has succeeded in creating a cultural divide among the new generation and the old. Not only the show has given rise to the prostitution system in India but has also taught the viewers to firmly believe that nudity and sex are no longer taboo. With such a vehement message being promulgated through the show the production has been per se become a subject of numerous controversies. Winner Sakshi Pradhan along with many other female participants have been witnessed attending to plenty of sexual favors for male competitors, the host and the production team. Ms.Pradhan's sex tape with the host has been surfacing around the internet right after her win. Host Nikhil Chinnapa said in an interview that the show promotes love not sex. A few weeks after the statement he was accused of adultery by Akanksha Popli who claimed that she gave him blowjobs to progress in the game at a faster pace. Paras Chhabra veered the spotlight from the female contestants in an interview with Mid Day claiming that Vroon Sharma who was the king for the maximum amount of time lost anal virginity to Nikhil Chinappa to maintain his position as the owner of the throne. However Paras who was eventually crowned the winner also added that he himself had to go through several notions about getting involved in intimate homosexual encounters throughout the run of the infamous show.
