"Team"
Song

"Team" is a song by New Zealand recording artist Lorde, written by Lorde and Joel Little, and produced by Little. It was released on 13 September 2013 by Universal Music as the third single from her first studio album, Pure Heroine. It entered the US Hot Rock Songs at number thirty-one.

Composition

"Team" was written by Lorde and Joel Little as Lorde was travelling the world, and was produced by Little. It is a mid-tempo song, which draws on the genres: pop, rock and EDM. "Team" features a synth/handclap-based beat and a rumbling bass. Vulture's Amanda Dobbins likened the song's chorus to that of Lana Del Rey's "Born to Die" (2011). In her line "We live in cities you'll never see on-screen", Lorde speaks on behalf of the minority – people living in her hometown of Auckland, rather than well-known cities like New York City. She also expresses distaste for contemporary pop lyrics commonly telling people to "put your hands in the air".

Release

"Team" was leaked on 13 September, and was posted to YouTube hours later, earlier than planned. It was released as a music download by Universal Music in Australia and New Zealand on 13 September 2013.

Critical reception

PopCrush's Amy Sciarretto rated "Team" four stars out of five and praised Lorde's vocal delivery.

Chart performance

"Team" debuted on the US Hot Rock Songs at number thirty-one. On the New Zealand Singles Chart dated 23 September 2013, the song entered at number three.
