Senthamizhan Seeman(Template:Lang-ta) is an Indian film actor, director, politician and activist in Tamil Nadu. He is the Chief Coordinator of the organisation "Naam Thamizhar Iyakkam" which turned as a political party "Naam Thamizhar Katchi" in May 2010.

Personal life

Seeman was born in Sivagangai district in South Tamil Nadu to Mr. Senthamizhan and Mrs. Annammal Senthamizhan. He married K. Kayalvizhi, daughter of Late Mr. Kalimuthu (former speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly) and Mrs. Manohari, on September 8, 2013 in the presence of Tamil Nationalist leader Pazha. Nedumaran and many other Tamil leaders and celebrities. The ceremony was held according to Tamil traditions at the YMCA grounds, Nandanam, Chennai.

Career

Seeman took up film direction as a career after being inspired by the films of his mentor, Bharathi Raja and also the work of Manivannan. Seeman started his career by directing Panchalankurichi, a village action film starring Prabhu and Madhubala. He collaborated with actor Prabhu again in Iniyavalae, a romantic film also featuring Suvalakshmi, Gouthami and Keerthi Reddy. His third film Veeranadai with Sathyaraj and Kushboo after that he took a long break from films.

In 2006, he came back with a successful film Thambi with actor Madhavan. The film carried the message that violence does not pay, and is not the answer to the problems of today. Seeman turned actor with the film Pori where he played the role of a Malaysian Business man. The same year he directed the love story Vaazhthugal again with Madhavan and Bhavana, with every single word used in the movie being written in pure Tamil. However the film failed at the box office and since Seeman has only acted in films including critically acclaimed roles in Pallikoodam and Evano Oruvan.

Politics

Seeman entered politics after the large scale killing of Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka in 2009. Seeman maintained close ties with the Tamil rebels of Sri Lanka and launched the Naam Tamilar Katchi party on May 18, 2010 in Madurai. Seeman was arrested few times for his speech favoring the independent Tamil nation for the Lankan Tamils. Seeman was instrumental in the defeat of Congress candidates on consequent elections. Seeman mobilized Tamil activists and campaigned in all but few constituents where Congress was contesting in the state of Tamil Nadu. Senior Congress leaders such as Mani Shankar Aiyar were defeated.

Controversies

Seeman has met with few controversies, mostly linked to his support of the organisation LTTE and its leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran. He was detained twice under the National Security Act of India. He was first arrested in February 2010 for his support to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and against Sri Lankan Government for the genocide against the Eelam Tamils. He was arrested again in the same act in July 2010, this time for allegedly making speeches against Sri Lanka and against its Navy which killed 500 plus Tamil fisherman while fishing in the sea, and later released.

In 2011, actress Vijayalakshmi who has acted in Seeman's direction, lodged a complaint with Chennai Police against Seeman for making false promises that he would marry her and also leveled rape charges against him.Subsequently she also released photos of the alleged affair Seeman's advocate Chandrasekar said that these are false allegations made to tarnish Seeman’s image and a defamation case would be filed against her.

Seeman also courted controversy when invited separatist leader Yasin Malik for a public meeting.
