== Thelma Madine == | |||
Thanx for your reply david .There was much more to her,other the just her name on "Big gypsy weddings" before...I actually altered her pasge on where she lived.says she lived in ormskirk.I actually know she lives in Upholland wn8 uk,postcode as i lived around the corner from where she lives now,so there was more about her on here before
Im not sure how to start a page i a just alter facts that are true,tho upon doing so sometimes I have been banned for a month by one certain member of wikis help team.always the same lady that bans me..the problem is the part ive changed is true
re Thelma I really think she deserves a page ,How do i go about it
I do have a username on here,but when i try to log in,,says my password is invalid..my username is drew7..yet i ask for new password and its never sent
I would like to create a few new pages of minor celebs of the uk,and Im sure alot of people try to check her records etc on here as i once did,but do not follow half the wiki jargon on here,when I try it just takes to another place and then eventually to the beggining.Help on all accountsThanx Drew
ps another problem on wiki is uk use dates as uch 8th september 1988..americans use september 8 1988
Can both be used or is one of these dates banned?.ie how the are set about,,we use th after the day of the mnth <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">— Preceding ] comment added by ] (]) 12:33, 27 November 2013 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:Unsigned IP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->
:First I can't do anything about your password. If you registered an email address, you can ask to have the password sent to that address. if you didn't or if you no longer have access to that address, there is nothing that can be done to recover the password. In that circumstance it is fine for you to register a new user name with a new password.
:Second, the fact that you "know" something to be true from personal experience is not useful at Misplaced Pages. Misplaced Pages articles must be based on '''published''' ]. If you persist in inserting unsourced information it is not unlikely that you would be blocked from editing.
:Third ] does not appear ever to have been an article here. if there was an article about this person on en.wikipedia it was under some other title.

:Oh, about date formats. Misplaced Pages articles use various different date formats, including DMY and MDY. However Misplaced Pages doesn't generally use 'th' so 8 September 1988 would be fine, but not 8th September 1988. In any given article dates should be consistently formatted, to avoid confusion. ] ] 13:55, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

== William "Bill" Kerdyk ==
HI, | |||
I wanted to ask about a page I submitted that you recently reviewed and rejected (William "Bill" Kerdyk). The editor cited Golden Rule, but I used basically all sources that are independent of the individual I was writing on - they were mostly newspaper articles. The editor also mentioned notability, but I have seen other Misplaced Pages pages on politicians who are much less notable than Bill Kerdyk. '''Also, I read the guidelines for notability and my page meets the requirements for a politician, as well as the additional requirements. I'm confused by how it can be rejected when I followed all of the steps and guidelines that Misplaced Pages lays out.''' I was wondering if you could let me know if there is any way to fix this page and successfully resubmit. I'd very much appreciate the help, because I don't want to waste my time again.
Also, is there a number I can call for Misplaced Pages help, or is everything done through 'Talk'?
Thanks! | |||
] (]) 15:07, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
:First of all, there is no telephone number. All reviewing and Misplaced Pages editing is done by volunteers, and there is no office for them to work at or receive calls at. Some Misplaced Pages editors may engage in live chat over IRC or other services, but I generally do not, and most Misplaced Pages discussion is via talk pages.
:It often happens that there are articles around that would not meet a strict review -- standards were looseer in the earlier days of Misplaced Pages, and many of them are judgement calls which different editors will view differently. As pointed out on the page ] the argument "This is better than that article over there" is generally not given much weight.
:Any page can be edited and resubmitted. There are a number of issues with your draft. I will post a detailed message in the form of a comment on the draft, since you are not logged in and your IP address and its talk page may not be consistent, depending on your internet connection. By the way, I urge you to seriously consider registering an ] and logging in. There is no cost, and you don't even have to provide an email address or any personal info. It protects your privacy better, since your IP address is not displayed with each edit, as it is for those not logged in. It gives you a continuing identity here, and allows people to interact with you on a continuing basis. And there are some functions that only logged in or ] editors can perform. However, an account is not required to edit. ] ] 15:27, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
:: Link is ]. First off, no, we don't have a telephone number; we just have pages like this. You mention the guidelines for notability on politicians; are you talking about ], or something else? Please remember what that page says: "Just being an elected local official, or an unelected candidate for political office, does not guarantee notability, although such people can still be notable if they meet the primary notability criterion of 'significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article'." Meanwhile, as ], you need to demonstrate coverage of him in reliable sources that are time-independent of the subject: either books, or academic journals, or newspapers that discuss him in a fashion that's not news coverage, e.g. a recap of his past actions over the previous year. Local news coverage also isn't entirely geographically independent of the subject; you'd need coverage from sources in farther places (e.g. out of state) or from big-name news sources. The ''Miami Herald'' is prominent enough that it would count toward that, but one of your two citations for it is a ], and the other one doesn't give him substantial coverage. ] (]) 15:32, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

{{la|The Clown (novel)}}
The article on Heinrich Boll's The Clown reads like a high school paper by a reluctant student reader who hated the book. There is no sense of the humor or surrealism, the liveliness of the writing, much less a clear understanding of the themes. This really does Boll and the book itself a disservice. Who edited this? - We can't use it. It doesn't fall under fair use, because a free map showing the same information could be made. As such, it's a copyright violation, and will need to be deleted. I'd suggest asking at the Map workshop for someone to make a free equivalent. Yunshui 雲水 10:28, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Archiving talk pages
G'day! I was copying, pasting and archiving my talk page which I'm tired of so got a bot. But I don't think I've set it up properly. I've read Help:Archiving a talk page and followed it. I have 12 pages already of archived from copy and paste but they are not showing up under archive box collapsible. Can someone please assist? Thanks! Ansett (talk) 10:06, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
Looks okay to me - the reason there are no archives showing up in the archive box is that you don't yet have any (User:Ansett/Archive 1 is still a redlink). Once MizaBot has done its first archival run on your page, you should see that box start to populate automatically. Yunshui 雲水 10:25, 27 November 2013 (UTC)Hm, that's odd - give me another couple if minutes on this... Yunshui 雲水 10:32, 27 November 2013 (UTC)- Ah, got it. I was right the first time - your pre-existing archives are under User:Ansett/Archive 1 etc., rather than User talk:Ansett/Archive 1 etc. Because the archive box is on your talkpage, rather than your userpage, it doesn't recognise the archives you've already created. There are two ways to fix this; either you'll need to manually move your archives from the format "User:Arnett/Archive 1" to "User talk:Arnett/Archive 1", or you can use the following syntax in place of your archive box:
{{Archive box collapsible|auto=yes|*], *], *], and so on}}
- Hope that helps. Yunshui 雲水 10:42, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Thelma Madine 2
Thanx for your reply david .There was much more to her,other the just her name on "Big gypsy weddings" before...I actually altered her pasge on where she lived.says she lived in ormskirk.I actually know she lives in Upholland wn8 uk,postcode as i lived around the corner from where she lives now,so there was more about her on here before Im not sure how to start a page i a just alter facts that are true,tho upon doing so sometimes I have been banned for a month by one certain member of wikis help team.always the same lady that bans me..the problem is the part ive changed is true re Thelma I really think she deserves a page ,How do i go about it I do have a username on here,but when i try to log in,,says my password is invalid..my username is drew7..yet i ask for new password and its never sent I would like to create a few new pages of minor celebs of the uk,and Im sure alot of people try to check her records etc on here as i once did,but do not follow half the wiki jargon on here,when I try it just takes to another place and then eventually to the beggining.Help on all accountsThanx Drew ps another problem on wiki is uk use dates as uch 8th september 1988..americans use september 8 1988 Can both be used or is one of these dates banned?.ie how the are set about,,we use th after the day of the mnth — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.5.98.41 (talk) 12:33, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- First I can't do anything about your password. If you registered an email address, you can ask to have the password sent to that address. if you didn't or if you no longer have access to that address, there is nothing that can be done to recover the password. In that circumstance it is fine for you to register a new user name with a new password.
- Second, the fact that you "know" something to be true from personal experience is not useful at Misplaced Pages. Misplaced Pages articles must be based on published reliable sources. If you persist in inserting unsourced information it is not unlikely that you would be blocked from editing.
- Third Thelma Madine does not appear ever to have been an article here. if there was an article about this person on en.wikipedia it was under some other title.
- Fourth, I urge you to read Your First Article, Referencing for Beginners, Notability, and Notability of people before trying to create an article. After that, i urge you to use Articles for creation.
- I hope this helps. DES 13:50, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, about date formats. Misplaced Pages articles use various different date formats, including DMY and MDY. However Misplaced Pages doesn't generally use 'th' so 8 September 1988 would be fine, but not 8th September 1988. In any given article dates should be consistently formatted, to avoid confusion. In this diff, I added a relevant infobox to Cincinnati Zoo Historic Structures; before the edit, an image appeared in the middle of the text where I wanted it, but after the edit, the image is at the bottom. How do I put it back where it belongs without moving the new infobox? I used to use {{Fix bunching}}, but it got deleted, and I'm unsure of what took its place. William "Bill" Kerdyk
HI,
I wanted to ask about a page I submitted that you recently reviewed and rejected (William "Bill" Kerdyk). The editor cited Golden Rule, but I used basically all sources that are independent of the individual I was writing on - they were mostly newspaper articles. The editor also mentioned notability, but I have seen other Misplaced Pages pages on politicians who are much less notable than Bill Kerdyk. Also, I read the guidelines for notability and my page meets the requirements for a politician, as well as the additional requirements. I'm confused by how it can be rejected when I followed all of the steps and guidelines that Misplaced Pages lays out. I was wondering if you could let me know if there is any way to fix this page and successfully resubmit. I'd very much appreciate the help, because I don't want to waste my time again.
Also, is there a number I can call for Misplaced Pages help, or is everything done through 'Talk'?
Thanks!

- First of all, there is no telephone number. All reviewing and Misplaced Pages editing is done by volunteers, and there is no office for them to work at or receive calls at. Some Misplaced Pages editors may engage in live chat over IRC or other services, but I generally do not, and most Misplaced Pages discussion is via talk pages.
- It often happens that there are articles around that would not meet a strict review -- standards were looseer in the earlier days of Misplaced Pages, and many of them are judgement calls which different editors will view differently. As pointed out on the page WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS the argument "This is better than that article over there" is generally not given much weight.
- Any page can be edited and resubmitted. There are a number of issues with your draft. I will post a detailed message in the form of a comment on the draft, since you are not logged in and your IP address and its talk page may not be consistent, depending on your internet connection. By the way, I urge you to seriously consider registering an account and logging in. There is no cost, and you don't even have to provide an email address or any personal info. It protects your privacy better, since your IP address is not displayed with each edit, as it is for those not logged in. It gives you a continuing identity here, and allows people to interact with you on a continuing basis. And there are some functions that only logged in or WP:AUTOCONFIRMED editors can perform. However, an account is not required to edit. DES 15:27, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- Link is Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/William H. ‘Bill’ Kerdyk, Jr.. First off, no, we don't have a telephone number; we just have pages like this. You mention the guidelines for notability on politicians; are you talking about WP:POLITICIAN, or something else? Please remember what that page says: "Just being an elected local official, or an unelected candidate for political office, does not guarantee notability, although such people can still be notable if they meet the primary notability criterion of 'significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article'." Meanwhile, as Misplaced Pages isn't the newspaper, you need to demonstrate coverage of him in reliable sources that are time-independent of the subject: either books, or academic journals, or newspapers that discuss him in a fashion that's not news coverage, e.g. a recap of his past actions over the previous year. Local news coverage also isn't entirely geographically independent of the subject; you'd need coverage from sources in farther places (e.g. out of state) or from big-name news sources. The Miami Herald is prominent enough that it would count toward that, but one of your two citations for it is a 404 error, and the other one doesn't give him substantial coverage. Can you please let me know how to submit a biography for consideration
Thank you.

- Linda, a good place to start is Misplaced Pages:Your first article, which has lots of information in a format that's easy to understand. In order to start an article, you'll have to do one of two things: either you'll need to register an account by going to our signup page, or you'll have to use our Articles-for-Creation process. With one or the other of those done, you'll need to gather good, solid sources, and the article will need to be written from those sources; our inclusion standards for biographies require that you show substantial coverage in reliable sources. Any more questions? Come back here, and we'll be happy to try to help. Nyttend (talk) 15:44, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- One more thing to add to what Nyttend has said: if the biography is of you, or of somebody closely associated with you, please read about conflict of interest before proceeding further. --ColinFine (talk) 17:00, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Adding a photo to a page on Misplaced Pages.
Just want to know how to add a photograph to a Misplaced Pages article about my father? Is it possible to do so? If so, how is it done? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Olddeadeye (talk • contribs) 19:31, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- The first question is the copyright. Did you take the picture, or do you now own the copyright on it? If so, are you willing to license it so that anyone may reuse it for any purpose, including making modified versions, or selling it if they can? If so, see Help:Upload#Uploading files and Misplaced Pages:Uploading images. Once an image is uploaded, see Misplaced Pages:Picture tutorial for how to display it in an article. DES 20:00, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- Do read our conflict of interest guideline before doing any edits to an article about your father, however. DES 20:02, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
I created a page yesterday and now it's gone
Hello, I created a page yesterday and now it's gone. The page is "List of films related to christmas". Heinrich Boll's The Clown
The Clown (novel) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Why such a dull, plodding and clearly unenthusiastic article on one of the Great Books of post-war Germany, or Europe? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.8.7.103 (talk) 22:50, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- The page The Clown (novel) has been edited by several people, as you can see here, although most edits look like they're bots or minor technical changes. It has been tagged as needing improvement for over two years, If you think you can improve it, go ahead. This is the encyclopaedia that anyone can edit. You could also try posting on the talk page for the article to see whether anyone else is interested in it. Rojomoke (talk) 23:15, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)The article certainly has a remarkably dull pedagogic style. Maybe this is intended as a allusion to Boll's style? I have never read any Boll, so I can't tell. It wouldn't be hard to improve the writing, if you wanted. Maproom (talk) 23:18, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

There is still a lot of material in the article which is not referenced, so that could be improved. And please provide an edit summary for your edits, especially when you do something like removing a maintenance tag, so that editors looking at the history can see which edit was which, and also to confirm that the change was intentional and not a mistake or disruptive. --ColinFine (talk) 17:21, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Listing a company on Misplaced Pages
I have been asked to put some details of the company De Vere Kensington ltd onto Misplaced Pages. I tried several years ago and it was rejected! Can anyone give me some basic guidance as to what I can and cannot write. It was a company manufacturing professional photographic equipment, founded in 1947 by my father, my uncle and financed by a third man GFT Wagstaff in Peckham London UK. It closed in 1992 when the conventional photographic industry 'went digital'... Thanks in advance. - See Misplaced Pages:Notability (organizations and companies). In order to merit an article, it would be necessary to demonstrate that the company had received significant coverage in third party reliable sources. AndyTheGrump (talk) 16:35, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) A first step is the subject must pass General_notability_guideline, a second issue is conflict of interest, and a rule of thumb "If a subject is noble enough, someone else will write about it" hope this helps. Mlpearc (open channel) 16:40, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- I guess you are talking about De Vere Kensington Ltd, created in January 2011 by Paulsparks. The article as it stood when it was deleted had no references of any kind and in my quick searches I have not been able to find any reliable sources about the company. Do you have any sources that discuss the company? GB fan 17:15, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- If the company closed in 1992, there may be sources, but none on-line. Sources which are not online are acceptable as references, as long as they are published in a reliable place (eg a major newspaper, or a book from a reputable publisher) and (to establish notability) from a source independent of the company. --ColinFine (talk) 17:26, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

What's up with Misplaced Pages? It doesn't have a List of FOREIGN companies of the United States!!! Yet it has a list of American Named companies of the United States. Terrible fact finding. Americanizing Foreign countries with McDonalds, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.109.19.210 (talk) 19:47, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- I don't quite understand what you're asking about. I don't know what you mean by "foreign companies of the United States" (from where I am, the United States and everything in it is foreign, but I'm sure that's not what you mean). I guess you might mean "non-US companies which have a presence in the US" - but is that manufacturing there, having an office there, or just selling there? Whichever, I think the list would be too huge to be of much use. It might help me understand what you mean if you linked to the list you have found (I've had a look, but I haven't found it). But the answer to any question "why hasn't Misplaced Pages got XXX" is always either "Because nobody has created an article yet" or "Because XXX is not encyclopaedic" (or both). If you think there is something missing, you're very welcome to try and fix it: if you're going to create a new article, I suggest reading Your first article. --ColinFine (talk) 22:24, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
I have an image: https://en.wikipedia.org/File:Harry_Giese_1913-2000_Darwin_Australia_in_the_1970s.jpg and When I type "Harry Giese" into google image search this image shows in the results but it links to the image information page, not the article the image belongs to which is: https://en.wikipedia.org/Harry_C._Giese. I want the image in google images to link to the article. How would I go about this? --HCGiese (talk) 23:45, 28 November 2013 (UTC)HCGiese
- That's really a Google issue, if I understand you properly.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:27, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- With all due respect, if you're doing an image search, why would you expect Google to show you a link to an article rather than a link to a jpg image (on a File page)? (And yes, this is a Google issue, not a Misplaced Pages issue.) -- John Broughton (♫♫) 02:11, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- We have no control over Google and no inside knowledge of their algorithms. But it's possible a search on "Harry Giese" prefers File:Harry Giese 1913-2000 Darwin Australia in the 1970s.jpg over Harry C. Giese because the search term has no "C." It's not really a concern for Misplaced Pages whether Google links to the image page or an article using the image. Note that an image can be used on many articles and although this one isn't, it's incorrect to say that the image "belongs" to the article. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:48, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi, could I possibly get the title/name of the image changed to Harry C Giese 1913-2000 Darwin Australia in the 1970s.jpg?? --HCGiese (talk) 04:41, 29 November 2013 (UTC)HCGiese
- We don't rename files to attempt to influence Google searches. The references indicate he is best known as Harry Giese so the file name is fine as it is. If it wasn't for the existing article about another Harry Giese then his article should probably have been called that. Please stop trying to manipulate our own software to direct people to the article when they click a link which should go to the file page. I have linked the file page summary to the article so it's easier to get there for those who want. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:54, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

- It would probably help people answer your question if they knew what type of device you're using (Android, Apple, or Windows) and what browser on the device (Safari, Firefox, Chrome). Dismas| 02:30, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

- It seems to get retained as long as you stay logged in. I detest the mobile version. I select the "use desktop version" when using Misplaced Pages on my phone, and that preference lasts until my logon expires, at which time I have to wade through the mobile version again until I find the magic button once more.—Kww(talk) 03:28, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

How do I retrieve something I was writing in "Articles for Creation"?
Yesterday, I put many hours into a biography in "articles for creation"... working through most of the night, and although I "saved" it, I didn't bookmark it and now I have wasted more than an hour trying to find it again. I fear it has been lost forever, and because I was being a bone-head and writing directly onto it instead of onto a wordpad, I have lost things that may take me another twelve hours to re-create if I cannot resurrect the original. Is there some central place that knows what I've been up to, and this thing hasn't been lost because what I did is hanging in space someplace?
The name on the biography is Courtland Hector Hoppin.
I tried to submit this question to the Tea House but my curser wouldn't work there. Have never posted here and may be unable to find this place again. Kathrynklos (talk) 03:42, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- I just clicked on your "Contributions" and bang; there was Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Courtland Hector Hoppin. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:55, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- If you overlooked it, "Contributions" is at the top right of the page, next to "Log off". You can see the contributions of others by visiting their user or talk page and clicking "User contributions" in "Tools" on the left side of the page. Thanks ツ Jenova20 11:08, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! I ended up poking-around and found "contributions"... I'm kinda "duh" when it comes to computer-stuff, but am learning... Kathrynklos (talk) 02:18, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
Login to the HTTP version of Misplaced Pages, not the HTTPS version
2607:FCD0:100:C21:0:0:4E05:A9B7 (talk) 05:38, 29 November 2013 (UTC) How to login to the HTTP version of Misplaced Pages, instead of the HTTPS version? Manually changing the URL from 'HTTPS' to 'HTTP' just redirects it back to 'HTTPS'. 2607:FCD0:100:C21:0:0:4E05:A9B7 (talk) 05:38, 29 November 2013 (UTC) Goddamn it, where the hell is my reply!?!?! i've been waiting for 22 minutes! 2607:FCD0:100:C21:0:0:4E05:A9B7 (talk) 06:00, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- Please do not become uncivil. The people who reply here are volunteers. They are people who are no different than you who give their free time helping here. I can try to find the technical answer to your question, assuming no one pops in who knows why. You might be able to switch off https if you get an account, but I'm not 100% sure on that. - Purplewowies (talk) 08:38, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- If you register an account, you will be able to follow the step-by-step instructions in this Village Pump archive. I don't know of any way that unregistered users can avoid the HTTPS switchover. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:50, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Company Page taken down/deleted
Hi, I created a company page for LIQUITY Ltd., but it was taken down on the grounds of "lack of importance". I contested the decision on the grounds that the founder of the company has a[REDACTED] page and the people associated have wiki pages. What should I do ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhinandan90 (talk • contribs) 10:37, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- As can be seen at the page (Liquity), the article was deleted due to "No explanation of significance (real person/animal/organization/web content/organized event". This means that even if the company may be notable, there was no indication of it in the article. To prove notability you must make sure to cite your information using reliable sources. If this wasn't the case, anyone could write an article about anything and the site would fill up with rubbish before we knew it! Is this content in your sandbox what you copied to the article? Images on page entries
I written a page on a company which I have not yet sent for review. I have tried to attach the company logo. This displays on the page as: File:AlcoSense logohttps://en.wikipedia.org/File:AlcoSense logo.gif - but the logo is not visible. When I submit the page for review will the logo then automatically display; or is there something else I need to do? Thanks. NowEddy NowEddy (talk) 15:08, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- Fixed. It varies how to format image parameters in infoboxes although the former formatting would never have been valid. In this case Template:Infobox company tells to only use the file name. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:21, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- ... but remember also that you need to sort out the copyright issue on the image, see the messages on your user talk page and on the image page. - David Biddulph (talk) 15:32, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
Hand grenade thrown at civilian house in Little Aden in 1967.
I was working as a physician for British Petroleum in Little Aden. A hand grenade was thrown onto the roof of our house in the evening. We were playing bridge. It rolled off the roof and fell into the garden. I went out to see what the noise was about and found the hand grenade. I picked it up and threw it out onto the beach which was just over the road in front of the house.
I then phoned the General Manager - who did not believe me and thought I was drunk. I then phoned 45 Commando, who immediately sent a crew to dispose of the grenade.
They blew it up and gave me a piece as a souvenir - I still have it!! My wife continued the hand and made Seven No Trumps! Dr. John Daintree — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.147.226.95 (talk) 16:03, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- Do you have a question about how to use or edit Misplaced Pages? - David Biddulph (talk) 16:17, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- My experience of grenades is from an earlier era, but my understanding of twentieth century grenades is that if one pulls out the pin before throwing it back, one does not then need to telephone 45 Commando to blew up the grenade--it will blow itself up. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 16:43, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- Clearly not a (question?) for the help desk, but I'm against the idea of telling people to pull the pin and throw the grenade to avoid the hassle of calling for someone else to properly dispose of it. Just saying. --Onorem (talk) 17:00, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

— Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.81.237.65 (talk) 17:33, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Help with links please
As someone involved in the development of Emotional Intelligence (EI), I'm editing this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/Emotional_Intelligence_Quotient
I'm describing my role in the use of the term EQ and would like to link to my web-site that provides further information: http://www.keithbeasley.co.uk/EQ/eq2004.htm
I'm not sure if this is OK (as I received the 'external link' warning), and if it is, how to do it acceptably? Should it go in 'external links' rather than in the main text?
Sorry, I'm new to this!
Thanks

- Hi Keith, thanks for asking. I´m sorry, but in short, don´t use it at all. Your website is not acceptable as a source for anything on Misplaced Pages, please take a look at Misplaced Pages:Identifying reliable sources. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 01:03, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

How to publish an article
I created an article and edited it for a few times in Sandbox. But I can not publish it. Any help to teach me how to publish it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bjfarm (talk • contribs) 02:17, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- When you save it in the sandbox there should be a box at the top that has a bolded hyperlink that takes you to a page with a short message where you click "Save page" (don't type anything on that page, just click). Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | 27 Kislev 5774 02:30, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
Rage Against The Machine
If you look at the bottom of political views, it says "Rage Against The Machine spent nine years in jail for raping children and women." Now, I'm no social scholar or up on current events, but I'm pretty sure none of the members, let alone the entire band, raped anyone, let alone children. I would consider citing the source for that if you're going to keep it up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.31.171.69 (talk) 02:43, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Elizabeth Whittall
Winner of the Lou Marsh Trophy.
There is an error on her birthdate. She was actually born in 1936 not 1937. Being her daughter, I know for certain what year she was born. For verification purposes, my name is Line Couvrette. She was married to my father, Yves Couvrette and had me, my sister, Helene Couvrette, and my brother, Marc Couvrette. Marc died at the age of 21 in a motorcycle accident. Helene and I are still alive and well. My mother does have four grand kids by my sister, three girls and one boy, Natasha, Tiffany, Jesse and Tessa.

I am Alice Whitcomb Clark. The earlier Alice Clark was not Alice Whitcomb Clark
I am a historian and social analyst of India. I also write about women. I'm alive now! You can find me online with the name Alice W. Clark. The earlier women's historian did not have my middle name. Plus, she is dead. Please correct your Misplaced Pages listings! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.38.21.242 (talk) 03:33, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
