It was announced on April 5, 2013, that Girls' Generation would be releasing their first Japanese single of the year, "Love & Girls", on May 29, 2013. The DVD edition contains the full PV to the B-Side on their sixth Japanese single "Flower Power" — "Beep Beep". A shortended version of the "Beep Beep" PV was released on April 5 on Universal Music's YouTube channel. The single was originally scheduled for a May 29, 2013, release, however due to last-minute alterations to the "Love & Girls" music video, the release was pushed back to June 19, 2013. The "Beep Beep" music video was also swapped out for the "Love & Girls" music video on the DVD edition of the single.
The music video for "Love & Girls" was filmed on April 17, 2013, with selected female members from Girls' Generation's Japanese fan site being able to participate. The video and single were originally scheduled for release on May 29, 2013, however the release was delayed due to their agency altering scenes of the video, stating, "The music video will be filled with new experimental things, which is the reason for the delay of the single."
The girls filmed the MV with a crowd in a carnival like atmosphere and dance along with bright smiles. The song is happy and fun with a cute and bright choreography to match. The Music Video was released in May 17, 2013 and shown on Space Shower TV.
According to the Oricon Daily Chart, "Love & Girls" rose from rank number 6 to number 4 the day after it debuted on the chart. The single was able to sold 42,796 physical copies on its first week and took the no. 4 spot in Oricon Weekly Chart. Love and Girls peaked at ranked number 4 in Billboard Japan Adult Contemporary Airplay. The single also managed to ranked number 2 in Hot Singles Sales and ranked number 3 in Billboard Japan Hot 100. The single took the no. 12 spot in Hot Top Airplay.
On June 19, 2013, the Girls' Generation members danced in a flashmob at Universal Studio Japan with 4,000 fans who gathered after seeing a notice online. As soon as the members pretended to wash their hair for their ′shampoo dance′, everyone in the crowd promptly followed. Fans had waited for the event from the day before, sleeping outside for the girls, and did not leave even when rain started pouring from the sky. On June 20, Fuji TV′s Mezamashi aired the flashmob.
