COI Help

Hi TonyTheTiger. I was poking around looking for an editor that may have the time and interest to collaborate on a couple articles where I have a COI and I saw that you conducted a GA review of an article where I had a disclosed COI, so I thought I would see if you could help. For example, I need help here, but I'm afraid the long list of proposed edits is somewhat intimidating. It would take a bit of time to sort through it. There is a lot of unsourced/poorly sourced contentious material and other junk I'd like to cleanup and I know of no better way to go about it. Many editors would tell me to take it in smaller bites, but then it takes years to make any reasonable progress. Any interest in helping? CorporateM (Talk) 22:50, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Titus Andronicus

Hello TonyTheTiger,

Sorry for my late replay, I have guests staying and Misplaced Pages hasn't been at the forefront of my thoughts over the past week. Do you have access to JSTOR, as from a brief review there are a number of articles archived there that might be useful, for example:

Template request?

Are you interested in creating a template for Ian Charleson Award winners? I have recently gone through and thoroughly cleaned up, researched, cited, and corrected all of the 24 years of winners. I think the next step is to have a template to post on each of the winners' articles. (By the way, only the first-prize winner is considered the winner.) All but 6 of the 25 winners (there was a tie one year) have Misplaced Pages articles, and I have made sure the wikilinks on each point to the correct article.

I'm approaching you because you've done a lot of templates, including for theatre awards. I've only created one template in my life, and it only has 8 entries on it. I'm not sure I'd know how to best format 25 entries plus years plus a tie; plus you could probably do this much more quickly than I could. Anyway, let me know! (You can reply here if you like.) Thanks, Softlavender (talk) 00:27, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

  • Hi Tony, I went ahead and created a user subpage with all of the winners plus dates. I'm not sure how to proceed from there. For instance, is it best to have the word "winners" or "Winners" in the template title, or use only the name of the award (which should be single by the way). I'm also not sure how to format the tie. I'm also not sure about the other template parameters, which can apparently get rather complex and varied. Would you be willing to complete the template, from my list on my user subpage? If so, many thanks! You can reply here or on my talk page. Cheers, Softlavender (talk) 00:29, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

OK, since I hadn't heard from you, I took a stab at it myself and created the template: Template:Ian Charleson Award. If there's anything that you think needs changing about the template, can you let me know, or do it yourself? Thanks very much, and thanks for all the great work you do. -- Softlavender (talk) 03:29, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2014 April newsletter

Round 3 of the 2014 WikiCup has just begun; 32 competitors remain. Pool G's Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Round 2's highest scorer, with a large number of featured picture credits. In March/April, he restored star charts from Urania's Mirror, lithographs of various warships (such as SMS Gefion) and assorted other historical media. Second overall was Pool E's Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), whose featured list Silver certificate (United States) contains dozens of scans of banknotes recently promoted to featured picture status. Third was Pool G's United States ChrisGualtieri (submissions) who has produced a large number of good articles, many, including Falkner Island, on Connecticut-related topics. Other successful participants included Rhodesia Cliftonian (submissions), who saw three articles (including the top-importance Ian Smith) through featured article candidacies, and Washington, D.C. Caponer (submissions), who saw three lists (including the beautifully-illustrated list of plantations in West Virginia) through featured list candidacies. High-importance good articles promoted this round include narwhal from Canada Reid, iain james (submissions), tiger from Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and The Lion King from Minas Gerais Igordebraga (submissions). We also saw our first featured topic points of the competition, awarded to Nepal Czar (submissions) and Indiana Red Phoenix (submissions) for their work on the Sega Genesis topic. No points have been claimed so far for good topics or featured portals.

192 was our lowest qualifying score, again showing that this WikiCup is the most competitive ever. In previous years, 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) or 100 (2010) secured a place in Round 3. Pool H was the strongest performer, with all but one of its members advancing, while only the two highest scorers in Pools G and F advanced. At the end of June, 16 users will advance into the semi-finals. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! DYK help

Tony, I haven't submitted a DYK nomination in a couple years and I'm not sure if the procedure is still the same as it was back then. Yesterday I created 1992 Troy vs. DeVry men's basketball game, which IMO has a ton of really good potential DYK hooks. If you'd like to go in on a joint-DYK nom for assisting me, I'd be ok with that. Thoughts? Jrcla2 (talk) 13:38, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Better source request for File:EMK eulogy of RFK.ogg

Thanks for your upload to Misplaced Pages:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 03:11, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Input on Global financial system lead

Greetings Tony,

I've recently completed a major revamp of Global financial system (version before the revamp), which I plan on nominating very soon for GA review. You previously reviewed 3 of my GA nominations, and I consider the depth of your scrutiny in those reviews to have resulted in marked improvements to those articles. I am currently troubled by the lead of Global financial system, which is quite lengthy. I would much appreciate some feedback from you on the lead's length and quality. I am certain that I need to trim it, but I am anxious and hesitant as to what I should shorten. The history, which is perhaps the lengthiest component of the lead, is extremely crucial to the context of the subject matter. Any input you have would be greatly appreciated. As soon as I am comfortable with the lead, I plan to nominate the article for review. John Shandy`talk 00:57, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

GA2 review of Cervix

Hi Tony, thanks for your considered review of Cervix, and it wasn't ready for GA at the time. Would you be interested in taking up the second GAN? I've made a lot of changes along the lines you've suggested (although not all) and think the article may be ready now. Cheers, --LT910001 (talk) 22:41, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Main Page appearance: Four Freedoms (Norman Rockwell)

This is a note to let the main editors of Four Freedoms (Norman Rockwell) know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on June 1, 2014. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at present, please ask Bencherlite (talk · contribs). You can view the TFA blurb at Misplaced Pages:Today's featured article/June 1, 2014. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Misplaced Pages:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Norman Rockwell

The Four Freedoms is a series of four 1943 oil paintings by the American artist Norman Rockwell (1894–1978). The paintings—Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want and Freedom from Fear—refer to President Franklin D. Roosevelt's January 1941 Four Freedoms State of the Union address in which he identified essential human rights that should be universally protected, a theme which became part of the charter of the United Nations. The paintings were reproduced in the Saturday Evening Post alongside essays by prominent thinkers of the day. They became the highlight of a year-long touring exhibition to promote the sale of war bonds in support of the American war effort, which raised over $132 million. Rockwell (pictured in his twenties) was the most widely known and popular commercial artist of the mid 20th century, but failed to achieve critical acclaim. The four paintings, which are now in the Norman Rockwell Museum, are his best-known works, but critical review has not been entirely positive. However, Rockwell created a niche in the enduring social fabric with Freedom from Want, emblematic of what is now known as the "Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving". (Full article...)

You (and your talk-page stalkers) may also be interested to hear that there have been some changes at the TFA requests page recently. Nominators no longer need to calculate how many "points" an article has, the instructions have been simplified, and there's a new nomination system using templates based on those used for DYK suggestions. Please consider nominating another article, or commenting on an existing nomination, and leaving some feedback on your experience. Thank you. UcuchaBot (talk) 23:01, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Please stop making personal attacks and badgering people. Just because you're not going to "win" the AfD does not mean you need to make accusations and refute everyone. Also, I am in no way related to HOCKEY, so I don't know where that came from. ~EDDY ~ 17:34, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
