Aims

After discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Yorkshire in April 2008.

Specific aims for the project are:-

  • To complete tagging and assessment of all Yorkshire related articles (See below)
  • To recruit more active editors (See Member News)
  • To bring our top level article Yorkshire up to Featured article status
  • To bring all other top priority articles (currently 15 with 2 at FA) to at least Good article status
  • To set up a weekly or monthly selected article improvement drive (See this month's feature below)
  • To produce a regular news letter for circulation to members

and apropos of the above a 2010 New Year article improvement drive/collaboration is being organised.

Priority Articles

The top priority articles that have been identified to date are as follows -

The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.

York Meet-up

Members are invited to a meet-up in York on 15 June 2015 where you can meet other Wikipedians and discuss things. You can also have a meal and drink together. The meeting will be at 12:30 at Your Bike Shed, 148/150 Micklegate, York, YO1 6JX. If you are interested then you can find more details and sign-up at the meet-up page.

WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project

The June 2015 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no further suggestions from the project talk page.

Month Dates Article(s)
B class choice Start class choice
62 1 Feb 2015 ~ 28 Feb 2015 Chris Moyles Ulley Reservoir
63 1 Mar 2015 ~ 31 Mar 2015 Cliffe Castle Museum Victoria Bridge (Stockton-on-Tees)
64 1 Apr 2015 ~ 30 Apr 2015 Wadsley Wensleydale cheese
65 1 May 2015 ~ 31 May 2015 Vale of York Yapham
66 1 Jun 2015 ~ 30 Jun 2015 Barnsley Central (UK Parliament constituency) Zoo Bar (Halifax, West Yorkshire)

Please nominate future articles for improvement at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Yorkshire.

Please bear in mind...

The project is subscribed to a clean-up listing which lists articles tagged with various clean-up tags that need attention. The listing is refreshed by a bot on a regular basis.

  • Monitoring is essential
Use the watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism and spamming can be removed as quickly as possible.
  • Moves
Please be careful when performing articles moves and ensure that you also move all the talk sub-pages and update any image fair use rational. Otherwise the archives, to-do lists, assessment comments and GA reviews get lost and the image may be deleted as it has an incorrect FUR. You will also have to check that the Commons link is set correctly.

Draft:عبدالجليل الأربش

Hi Nthep. Regarding the above, the procedure for translating articles applies to those in the mainspace only, not drafts. For what it is worth the page is a memorial to somebody killed in the explosion described in the linked article--Jac16888 21:59, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Everything Before Us

Since you moved Everything Before Us to Draft:Everything Before Us, saying the it wasn't ready for the mainspace, I thought I'd let you know that the author has recreated the article in the mainspace. — JJMC89(T·E·C) 19:55, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

It is back again. — JJMC89(T·E·C) 20:07, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for answering my Teahouse question so quickly. Your answer worked like a charm. I appreciate the time and energy you put in at the Teahouse. Best Regards,

Franklin Road Academy

Nthep. You suggested that I setup a sandbox for review on a page. I've done so and was wondering if you could review and approved. My sandbox is https://en.wikipedia.org/User:Comptonsteven/sandbox/Franklin_Road_Academy Thanks in advance. Steve ]

@Comptonsteven:, this looks to be pretty much the same as you amended the article to be. I'm sorry to say it still reads like an advert - for example the number of times it says "we . . . " and it is completely unreferenced except to the schools own web site and social media outlets. Does it help if I remind you that Misplaced Pages is for articles about subjects, not by them. What is needed is what other have written about the school, not what the school says about itself. Nthep (talk) 14:55, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Nthep, I agree with some of what you are saying. However, please consider that according to Misplaced Pages, that it's purpose is to benefit readers by acting as an encyclopedia, a comprehensive written compendium that contains information on all branches of knowledge. What I'm trying to do is to make sure that what is on the page is a factual reflection of the programs and academic makeup of the school based on the idea to provide such knowledge (much like an encyclopedia). I actually made the original Wiki page years ago and a lot has changed in the makeup of the school since that time. This is consistent with other schools on other WikiPedia pages and just contains facts about the makeup of the academy. So, I hope I'm not too far off. I hope you consider again this viewpoint. 17:13, 25 June 2015 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Comptonsteven (talkcontribs)

Steve, I agree with the purpose but this has to be backed up by establishing that information presented is written in a neutral tone, non-promotional and is verifiable by reliable, authoritative and independent sources. Your draft doesn't really manage any of these and it mostly a rehash of the school's website. While the website is ok to use as a source for a limited set of information e.g. straightforward factual information like the location, principal's name it should not be used as a source for anything else. To put the objection in it's rawest state - for every claim made on the page, verify it with a citation from a reliable, independent source. Otherwise all we have is the school's own opinion of itself which is almost inevitably biased - consciously or unconsciously. Nthep (talk) 16:34, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
