Jason Ashby (born 16 May 1994) is a professional Australian rules footballer, currently playing with the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League.

Early life

He went to Carey Baptist Grammar School, and was drafted by Essendon with pick 34 in the 2012 AFL National Draft from the Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup.

AFL career

He made his senior debut against Carlton in round three of the 2014 season.


Ashby broke through to make his senior debut in 2014 against Carlton and registered five games for the year. The half-back impressed in his second game, when he gathered 22 disposals against Fremantle at Patersons Stadium and wasn't overawed. The poised and calm running defender has shown an ability to shut down an opponent while providing rebound. His promise was rewarded when he signed a two-year contract through to the end of 2016.
