Imagining Ourselves was created in 2001 by Paula Goldman in collaboration with the International Museum of Women , San Francisco. The project, an anthology and an online exhibit, consists of a collection of answers to the question "What Defines Your Generation of Women?". Primarily work from young women between the ages of twenty and forty, the collection includes film, music, poetry and fiction.
The anthology "Imagining Ourselves - Global Voices from a New Generation of Women" was published in March 2006 by New World Library.
An online exhibit was launched on International Women's Day, March 8, 2006 running monthly installments of content around the topics: Love, money, culture and conflict and the future. The site is available in four languages: English, French, Spanish and Arabic. The project partnered with Yahoo! Health for a four month long blog featuring participants from Imagining Ourselves.
The mission of the project is to give young women aroud the world a platform and a meeting place to exchange ideas.
