This page has an administrative backlog that requires the attention of willing administrators.
Please replace this notice with {{no admin backlog}} when the backlog is cleared.

Requested moves is the place to request and vote on article moves that are not straightforward, or that require the assistance of Misplaced Pages administrators. Normally, logged in users can do uncontroversial moves themselves using the tab found at the top of every page (see Help:Moving a page for more information). However, sometimes this does not work because the target is already occupied (usually in the form of a redirect with a page history). In other situations a move may be controversial and will require discussion to reach a consensus.

Discussion to find consensus is encouraged for page moves requested on this page. For more information about appropriate reasons in a contentious page move, see Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions. Page moves take place after five (5) days under discussion on the talk page of the article to be moved, or earlier at the discretion of an administrator. The time for discussion may be extended if a consensus has not emerged.

What requested moves are not for:

Before you begin, please note that requested moves are only for moving articles, and sometimes templates. It is not the place for the following:

Unobstructed, uncontroversial moves
Moves of this nature can be accomplished by any logged-in user whose registration was more than 4 days ago. Use the tab located at the top of every page. See Help:Moving a page.
Category move requests
To rename a category, list it on categories for discussion.
Image move requests
To rename an image, re-upload the image with the name you want, and then change the relevant links to reflect the new name, and then list the old image on images and media for deletion.
Merge requests
To merge two articles, make a request at proposed mergers or be bold and do it yourself.
Cut and paste move fix requests
To request page histories to be merged, list them at cut and paste move repairs.

Steps for requesting a page move

In the following, replace PageName with the name of the page to be moved; NewName with your proposed name; and reason for move with some text explaining your proposal.

Step 1:  Add the request to the list on this page
a.  To aid the administrators, add a line with the day's date on it directly under the heading of the Current proposals subsection, if it has not already been added for today.

The line should look like:

===] ]===

b.  To enter a request for a single page to be moved to a new name, add the following line at the top of the section under the date line;
{{subst:WP:RM|PageName|NewName|reason for move}}

which will include all the necessary formatting, including your signature. Don't forget the "subst:" at the beginning!

c.  Include the page's name in your edit summary. Save this page.

Step 2:  Add the move template to talk page
Enter the following text at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved:
{{move|NewName}}

If you think a page should be moved, but don't yet know what name it should be given, you can use {{moveoptions}} instead to indicate that there are several options to discuss.

Step 3:  Create a place for discussion
If one does not already exist, create a section on the talk page of the page you want moved for discussion. This can take any form that is reasonable for administrators to follow, but copying the following is suggested. The reason for move should be copied from the entry on the WP:RM page:

==Requested move==
PageName → NewName – {reason for move with signature} copied from the entry on the ] page
===Survey===
:''Add *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''' followed by an optional one-sentence explanation, then sign your opinion with ''<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>

===Discussion===
:''Add any additional comments''

If you are proposing that multiple closely related pages should all be moved for the same reason (see #Multiple page moves), it may be advisable to create this discussion on only a single talk page and provide links from the other talk pages to this centralized discussion.

Please include "move proposal" or similar in the edit summary and don't mark it as minor. Consider checking the "Watch this page" box to follow the page in your watchlist. Save the page.

What to do on the article page

If the move you are suggesting is uncontroversial – for example, it is correcting spelling or capitalisation – then update the article's text to reflect the article's new title. For example, if the article were at Blah Blah, but should be at Blah blah, then if the opening sentence began "Blah Blah is a...", you would update it to "Blah blah is a...".

Current proposals

Please list new proposals at the top of today's section (January 8) in the format described above. Actual discussions should take place on the listed talk page, not here.

Pristine Clarity is a sockpuppet of the banned User:Zen-master (can somebody help with this?), and this is a bad-faith requested move.--Nectar 02:57, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

  • STS-300Space Shuttle Rescue MissionRationale: STS-300 is too specific of a name and the article has been expanded to include information on ALL rescue flights. Renaming the article would have to be done in conjunction with an article rewrite, removing references to the specific STS-300 mission within the text, but including basic information (ship, crew, etc.) on STS-300, -301, etc, in an organized fashion SEPERATE from the article text. … Please share your opinion at Talk:STS-300. — Fumo7887 03:17, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Rationale:Many a links in Wikepedia intending to refer to this page are referring to Patan (Disambiguation) and user has to spend more time or gets confussed and lost. To prevent his it is better to rename this article as Patan

Notices have been posted on the talk pages of the following articles.

Note: changed header, included centralized disucssion, and added rest of names as discussed at wikiproject for reasons above. --Kunzite 02:11, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

  • User:CherylB-TOCThe Outdoor ChurchRationale: The user CherylB-TOC created the user sub-page CherylB-TOC/Article01 to draft and finalize the article. The article is now finalized and ready to be submitted to Misplaced Pages for acceptance with the correct name - The Outdoor Church. … Please share your opinion at User Talk:CherylB-TOC.

  • Loamhedge (book)LoamhedgeRationale: Loamhedge is a book in the Redwall series. Currently, several of the novels in this series have book titles followed by (book) or (novel). I'm trying to change the article titles merely to that of the original novel, per Misplaced Pages article naming conventions. In the case of Loamhedge, there is currently a (somewhat crufty) article located at Loamhedge about an abbey in the Redwall series. I moved this article to a new location at Loamhedge (Redwall), but I require administrator help to move Loamhedge (book) to the Loamhedge page, which is currently a redirect. Thanks! … Please share your opinion at Talk:Loamhedge (book). —Runch 16:29, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Plymouth → Plymouth, England Plymouth, Devon — There are more than thirty places named Plymouth or similar, and while the city in England is important, it is unlikely that most people looking for a place called Plymouth are looking for that one. Currently someone looking for one of the other Plymouths by typing "Plymouth" comes here, has to go to a disambiguation page, and only then get to the place he wants to go. The Plymouth page should instead be the same as the Westport page: fewer hops for the user. This proposed move is to help make navigation of place-name articles less confusing. — Talk:PlymouthEvertype 15:00, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

  • ChesterChester, England — There are more than thirty places named Chester or similar, and while the city in England is important, it is unlikely that most people looking for a place called Chester are looking for that one. Currently someone looking for one of the other Chesters by typing "Chester" comes here, has to go to a disambiguation page, and only then get to the place he wants to go. The Chester page should instead be the same as the Westport page: fewer hops for the user. This proposed move is to help make navigation of place-name articles less confusing. — Talk:ChesterEvertype 15:00, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Template:Infobox lake -> Template:Infobox Lake ... thats the Misplaced Pages:Infobox standard. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 12:50, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Sf0SFZeroSF0 is based in San Francisco, so the capital "F" seems to be in order. The players tend to use "SF0" more often than "SFZero", but (particularly given the local airpot sign) the lettered "Zero" may be less confusing. Perhaps SF0 should be a redirect.

  • UtnapishtimZiusudraRationale: Ziusudra is the earlier Sumerian name of this person, and it is in this form that he appears in both the older version of the Gilgamesh epic and in the Sumerian king list as found in tablets from any era. In order to coherently discuss both in the same article, it appears to me to make more sense to move the article to Ziusudra and change Utnapishtim to a redirect. … Please share your opinion at Talk:Utnapishtim. —TCC (talk) (contribs) 05:26, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

  • NewportNewport, Wales — There are more than thirty Newports, and while the city in Wales is important, it is unlikely that most people looking for a place called Newport are looking for that one. Currently someone looking for one of the other Newports by typing "Newport" comes here, has to go to a disambiguation page, and only then get to the place he wants to go. The Newport page should instead be the same as the Westport page: fewer hops for the user. The new Newport, Wales and the Newport, Pembrokeshire pages should have disambiguation links to one another, which would make the current Newport, Wales disambiguation page moot, which would be less confusing. — Talk:NewportEvertype 11:33, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
