The Moldovan union referendum was a nationwide referendum in the Republic of Moldova on whether or not the country should unite with neighbouring Romania. It was held on March 6, 1994.
The official results of the referendum showed that with a voter turnout of approximately 75%, 95.4% of Moldovans voted against the union.
The government of Romania protested in vain that a valid referendum should include its own citizens as well.
The failure of the referendum was perceived as a strong blow to the unionist movement in both countries.
