The March 87P was a Formula One and Formula 3000 racing car designed by the March Racing Team and driven once in the 1987 Formula One season. The car was powered by a Cosworth DFZ V8 engine, and was driven by the 1986 International Formula 3000 champion, Italian Ivan Capelli.
Development
The 87P was designed by Gordon Coppuck, father of the first McLaren world champions which met to March after the acquisition of the same McLaren by Ron Dennis. It was powered by the Ford Cosworth DFZ engine. It should be said that these considerations were not taken into consideration as much for 87P since the March 871, which was the car designed for the World '87, but it was not possible to build the 871 in time for the Brazilian Grand Prix which was the opening round of the season.

In light of this vast difference in performance and the fact that the 87P probably could not finish the race because of his too small tank, the team decided not to deploy it on the grid, saving a racing engine.
