Reference Errors on 4 July

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot (talk) 00:35, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

William Burke Belknap

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of William Burke Belknap, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.potiori.com/Belknap,_Louisville.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Misplaced Pages:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) CorenSearchBot (talk) 15:47, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

In this case, the bot is confused. The referenced site is actually a copy and paste from the prior Misplaced Pages article for Belknap, Louisville. Stevie is the man! 13:11, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages and copyright

Warning icon Hello Mitzi.humphrey, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. Your addition to William Burke Belknap has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Misplaced Pages, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 08:41, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi! I see that fairly new here and still finding your way around. Please be very careful not to copy content from outside Misplaced Pages into the encyclopaedia (that's what the text above is about). Also, if you happen to copy text from within Misplaced Pages, could you please make sure that you credit the source? There are explanations and instructions at WP:Copying within Misplaced Pages. Managing a conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, Mitzi.humphrey. We welcome your contributions to Misplaced Pages, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Thomas M. Humphrey, you may have a conflict of interest.

All editors are required to comply with Misplaced Pages's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Misplaced Pages article or website of your organization in other articles (see Misplaced Pages:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Misplaced Pages's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Misplaced Pages when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. I gather you are the spouse of Thomas Humphrey. If so, please read the policies about editing on articles related to your family. Thank you.S. Rich (talk) 00:34, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

August 2014

Information icon Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". I see the "minor edit" on most of your changes. Please do not use this feature except for tpyos and the like. I need help with the requested lead box for William Burke Belknap. Is there an automatic clean-up of this? Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 16:35, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Fixed by adding <br> and removing unneeded spaces. We call that box the "infobox". – S. Rich (talk) 16:52, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Thank you, Srich32977. I'm having trouble with the infobox on Joel Root now, adding his mother. Will see if I can figure out where to put the <br>. Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 19:57, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello

I just undid your edit at Brookgreen Gardens, " including Augustus St. Gaudens " because there really was no reason to pick him out of the perhaps 100 sculptors whose works are there. However I did notice that there is no list of sculptors in the article, so that would be a good project and a place to plop Mr. St. Gaudens. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 00:14, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Hello, Einar. I included Augustus St. Gaudens because he is probably the most notable of all the sculptors included at Brookgreen Gardens and I saw no listing of sculptors, as you mentioned. If you'd like to add that list, I'd be happy to contribute the link later to him in Misplaced Pages and also some external links. Thanks. Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 00:33, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
I've started a list there but there is a chance that as it grows very long we'll want to create a separate article that will be the list with dates and titles and perhaps photos. Life is supposed to be interesting. Carptrash (talk) 15:59, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Thank you, Einar. Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 16:06, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Kevin Rutherford (talk) 03:21, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thank you for creating Belknap Hardware and Manufacturing Company. I am wondering if, through your research, you found sufficient material to start an article on Morris B. Belknap (the younger), who married Lily Buckner, the daughter of Simon Bolivar Buckner, and later ran as a Republican for Governor of Kentucky. Acdixon 18:26, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I think I can find enough information to start an article on Morris B. Belknap, husband of Lily Buckner.

Where do you suggest I start? For Belknap Hardware and Manufacturing Company I worked on the draft for a while before submitting for review. Which is the most efficient way to enlist help from others? I understand that it is okay to start the article independently, but it seems to go more smoothly if I do a draft beforehand. Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 19:33, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

I haven't found much the few times I've looked. If we could find basic info like vital dates, etc. it would give us a skeleton to work with. Then, we'd have a place to hang bits of info as we find them, like the date of his marriage to Lily Buckner and some details about his campaign for governor, which is the source of my interest. The search will be complicated by references to the elder Morris B. Belknap, so the vital dates could also help with that. There probably won't be much, but since the guy was a major party candidate for a significant office (not to mention a close relative of a major military and political figure in Kentucky), it would be nice to at least have enough to stub in an article.
FWIW, I also prefer doing a user space draft before moving to the main space. I think that would be a productive way to move forward if we can find enough to get started. Acdixon 20:30, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

I added Morris B. Belknap user page

I also added some info and dates for him and Lily (taken from my family tree in Ancestry.com) to the the article on Belknap Hardware and Manufacturing Company. My husband's great-great grandfather William Burke Belknap (1811-1889) and his wife Mary Richardson Belknap (1821-1912) were the parents of Col. Morris Burke Belknap who married Lily Buckner, so I should not have much trouble locating photos and other information about them.

I do, however, have difficulty uploading photos and establishing copyrights. I would appreciate any editing and writing help and hope this is what you wanted. The various Belknap families can be very confusing, and I have yet to define their exact roles within the hardware company. I tend to get wrapped up in their individual stories, which are fascinating to me. Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 22:45, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Things to fix at Lewis Craig Humphrey

Hello, a couple things to fix:

  • You have a confusion about birth/death dates; see my notes at the top
  • Please divide his life into WP:Sections for easier reading
  • You could use more footnotes. Check for more mentions on GoogleBooks, and note http://reftag.appspot.com can turn any GoogleBooks link into a full footnote. Similarly, WP:Reflinks works for non-GoogleBooks footnotes, so you can save having to type them manually.
  • Since he is deceased, you can upload one photo of him (regardless of copyright) using the WP:Upload wizard. If you have any photo of him that is inarguably prior to 1923 (and thus out of copyright in the US), it can be uploaded to WP:Wikimedia Commons.

If you have trouble with any of this, check in at WP:Teahouse to speak to volunteer mentors. Nice work! MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:09, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Louise Odes Neaderland (March 6)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Onel5969 was: This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability—see the guidelines on the notability of people and the golden rule. Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia.
What you can do: Add citations (see Misplaced Pages:Referencing for beginners) to secondary reliable sources that are entirely independent of the subject. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved. • To (talk). RE: my proposed article on C. Lowell Harriss, who was and still is a world-renowned economist. At first you questioned the notability of this deceased, long-tenured, and influential professor emeritus of Columbia University and asked for more inline citations. And now you are saying that I have not used reliable sources. Would you please explain which of the many sources (some of which came from Misplaced Pages's Help suggestions) I have cited you consider unreliable? Do you consider it sufficient that the German version of Misplaced Pages has an entry for C. Lowell Harriss although the English version does not?Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 12:05, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

== How to change typo in name? ==

I have recently submitted the article Dr. William Ferguson Reid. Probably due to my own typo, the article is showing up in Misplaced Pages search with Dr. Reid's first name spelled incorrectly with three l's, i.e. Willliam. I am asking for help in correcting the spelling. If you know how to do this, please reply either here on my talk page or on the talk page for the article. == Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 13:58, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

Hey Mitzi - I saw this post because your talk page was on my Watchlist from before, so I moved your article to William Ferguson Reid. That's how we would fix a misspelling on an existing entry. The move also took out "Dr." from the page title; usually we omit titles like Doctor from the actual page name. If someone was to enter the old name of your article, there is a "redirect" that would automatically steer them to this new title. Have a good day! Thanks for uploading File:2015-11-05 1558 Joel Root in Connecticut History Illustrated.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Misplaced Pages uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. What's New in WikiProject Louisville? (Nov 2015)
Thank you for your continued membership in WikiProject Louisville! Our project is still alive and mildly kicking after over 9 years in operation. If by chance you're not up-to-date with what's going on in the project, here's some of the more recent goings-on:
  • We have over 6,100 articles included in the project and almost 17,000 pages (including talk pages) overall.
  • Our list of project tasks have been moved to a project subpage. This was done because the project's main page was getting rather long and perhaps difficult to digest. "One-stop shopping" for our project's tasks!
  • Our Membership department has been revamped. A lot of membership-related things have been clarified.
  • Did you know:

Speedy deletion nomination of Edward Cornelius Humphrey

Hello Mitzi.humphrey,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Edward Cornelius Humphrey for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Air Combat What's 23:44, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm AirCombat. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Edward Cornelius Humphrey, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. I just wanted to add that references behind a paywall, such as Ancestry, are not necessarily bad, but it looks as if this article was copied and pasted from there, though I can't confirm this as I don't have a subscription. Please write articles yourself, by interpreting secondary sources, to create a new, unique article. Thanks for contributing to Misplaced Pages! Air Combat What's 23:47, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Repost of Edward Cornelius Humphrey

Information icon A tag has been placed on Edward Cornelius Humphrey requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages, because it appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion process. If you can indicate how it is different from the previously posted material, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's discussion directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please contact the administrator who deleted the page or use deletion review instead of recreating the page. Thank you. ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Your submission at Articles for creation: Greene-Jones War (March 4)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by LaMona was: This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources. The comment they left was: The majority of sources are "begats" - births and death. You will need independent, reliable sources for every statement of fact in the article. Things like "The Greene-Jones war has entered the annals of folklore and national myth,..." has to cite published sources. "Strife between the Greene and Jones families is said by some chroniclers ..." you have to cite those chroniclers. This reads like original research, which isn't allowed. You need to begin with sources, and from those craft an article. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved. LaMona (talk) 00:57, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

C-J access

I've been on vacation and just now saw your post at User talk:Stevietheman#C-J access. I am excited to find someone with this access. The particular information I am seeking is on the first marriage of Sara Walter Combs, which all the sources I have found only vaguely allude to, given her second, very notable marriage to former Governor Bert T. Combs. The research I've done seems to show a marriage between Sara Walter and a Monte D. Gross in Jefferson County in 1975, but I can't even necessarily confirm that this is the subject of the article. I would like to, at minimum, confirm (or disprove) that Monte D. Gross is the first husband of Sara Walter Combs. If this turns out to be the person I am looking for, I'd also like to be able to cite an exact marriage date and date of divorce in the article. The sources I have seem to indicate that Combs was still married to her first husband in 1982 but was divorced by at least 1988. If you'll use the "email this user" feature to contact me, I'll get you an email address where you can forward any relevant articles, assuming Newspapers.com has such a feature. I really appreciate your offer to help. I suspect I may call on you for more C-J articles in the future. Let me know if I can reciprocate with anything from NewsBank (most notably, the Lexington Herald-Leader and The Kentucky Post (Covington, KY). Acdixon 16:21, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Humphrey-McMeekin House (April 19)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Dodger67 was: This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources. The comment the reviewer left was: A few more good sources would probably get this in publishable shape. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved. Your submission at Articles for creation: Richmond Printmaking Workshop (April 24)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by LaMona was: You have a number of errors in your references. Do not link to https://books.google.com/books? - that would be your own personal list. Instead, give the full reference to the book or books. However, if these are not books ABOUT the workshop, then you should make a list of the books BY the workshop and put them in a section with a heading like "Workshop books". The Youtube video is not at that address, but in general Youtube is not a reliable source. There needs to be something more to make the reference ""Art Exhibition: Experience 1708 Gallery's latest art" verifiable -- if it is a print resource, give a full citation. You can use a reference more than once if needed. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved. LaMona (talk) 23:26, 24 April 2016 (UTC)

I am on the hunt

for a visual image of a Matthew Harris Jouett painting that may or may not still exist and noticed that you uploaded a photo of a book that listed Jouett's paintings to his article. I am trying to find if a painting of Nathaniel G.S. Hart is listed in that book. I know that Jouett painted a portrait of Hart from memory after the River Raisin Massacre and would dearly love to find out if the painting still exists. Could you please look in your book and see if there's a portrait listed there of some variation of the following name: "Nathaniel G.S. Hart", "Nathaniel Gray Smith Hart", "Captain Hart" or even possibly "Nathaniel G.T. Hart". Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 06:25, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Never mind, I found it I listed as "Miniature of Capt Nat. G. Hart" in "Old Masters of the Bluegrass" on Page 60 and also listed as such in a Filson Club publication. I sure wish I could find out where the portrait is now, would be wonderful to have a photo for the Hart article. Shearonink (talk) 06:59, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
Shearonink, I regret that the little book about Matthew Jouett is no longer in my possession. However, the SIRIS (Smithsonian Institution Research Information System art inventories) resource I listed re: Catherine Cornelia Prather in "Further Reading" in the article on Jouett may be a helpful link for you to pursue. The comment the reviewer left was: Do not source to informal web sites (blogs, etc.). Announcements of exhibits are factual but do not support notability. Much of this is WP:UNDUE - every exhibit, every lecture. WP is not a web site so you need to include only that which makes the organization encyclopedic. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. Edward Porter Humphrey

Hi, Mitzi! Just to let you know, I have deleted a sentence from this article claiming that E. P. Humphrey was instrumental in the reunification of the Presbyterian Church. That cannot possibly be true. The unification you specified (the merger of United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America and the Presbyterian Church in the United States to form the Presbyterian Church (USA)) took place in 1983, almost 100 years after E.P. Humphrey's death in 1886. There have been various other mergers of branches of the church, but I could not find any that happened in a likely time frame for him to have taken part in it. I think he is probably notable anyhow, due to other things like his writing and the cemetery he founded, but that claim as it stands is not believable. --MelanieN (talk) 03:36, 21 August 2016 (UTC) Melanie, the misleading factor may have been the ongoing reconciliation after the Civil War between the Northern and Southern U.S. churches. The book by Kleber cited by Stevie the Man has good information about the various schisms of the churches in Kentucky. Rev. Edward Porter Humphrey, I read somewhere, was strongly for the Union. His son E.W.C., I recall reading somewhere, would have joined the Confederate Army but in deference to his father did not. Cave Hill Cemetery made separate military cemeteries for the Union dead soldiers and the Confederate dead soldiers. Thank you for making the correction, which should stand for now.Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 12:18, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 27

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Alexander Pope Humphrey, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Southern Railway Company (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Edward Cornelius Humphrey

Thanks for notifying me about the better version on your user space. I moved it to mainspace, replacing the much inferior version I had accepted. (it takes an admin to do that; I had to delete the existing page first). DGG ( talk ) 19:20, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
