==Notable History==
In 2005, the company signed on electronic music superstar ] when the company head Melleefresh discovered the artist where the two collaborated on a number of releases under the Play Records duo Freshmau5<ref></ref>.

In 2008, two of the tracks in the company's catalog, "After Hours" by ] and ] and "All U Ever Want" by ] and ] were nominated for a Juno award under the category of Best Dance Recording of the Year, with the latter winning the award that year.<ref></ref>. That same year, Play Records would part ways with deadmau5 and the company gained ownership of the catalog of tracks deadmau5 produced during his time with Play Records as part of the agreement.<ref>{{cite journal |last=Hudson |first=Alex | date=26 Oct 2015 |title=Deadmau5 Sues Play Records over Allegedly Unauthorized Remixes |url=http://exclaim.ca/music/article/deadmau5_sues_play_records_over_allegedly_unauthorized_remixes |journal=Exclaim |access-date=4 March 2016 }}</ref>

In October 2015, Play Records is sued by deadmau5 in a multi-million dollar lawsuit over a breach of contract for the tracks he had previously transferred ownership to<ref>{{cite journal |last=Gardner |first=Eric |title=Deadmau5 Sues Over Remixes and Mashups |url=http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/deadmau5-sues-remixes-mashups-834630 |dead-url= |journal=The Hollywood Reporter |access-date=4 March 2016 }}</ref>, claiming that Play Records released remixes of these tracks without his consent as the agreement didn't include a waiver of his moral rights. This infringement is a lesser known right in the Canadian legal system for Copyright law that grants authors the right to protect their moral rights and is one of the few instances in Canadian case law on the subject.<ref></ref>
