Tapley won the 2008 Miss Alabama Scholarship Pageant in June 2008. Her local title as Miss Samford University placed her into the Miss Alabama competition, which she won on her first try. Tapley’s platform is “Music For A Cure” and her competition talent was piano, performing the Tschaikowski Piano Concerto No 1.<ref name=give/> In January 2009, Tapley was on the TLC show "Miss America: Countdown To The Crown". She was a wild card gold sash winner, making it to the finals of the preliminary competition. After a nationwide vote, she was selected as one of four "America's Choice" winners, which placed her into the top 15 at the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was also 2nd runner up to the Miss America Quality of Life Award for community service. | |||
