Mortal Kombat: Devastation is the third installment in the movie franchise based on the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. Currently, the film's script is still being developed.
Possible storyline
In the absence of official information about the film's plot, various rumors have become popular with fans.
- According to fansite MortalKombatOnline.com, Robin Shou, who starred as Liu Kang in the first two films, supposedly contacted them to state that the most recent script is a prequel focusing on Sub-Zero as the protagonist, with none of the cast from the earlier films returning. However, the site doesn't provide a source for this information, and it may be false.
- Another rumor claims that Devastation will bypass Annihilation completely, citing the second film's poor performance and reception.
- Actor Christopher Lambert claims that, while the Devastation is has already been written, it will be scrapped and recreated upon the release of the latest Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
Cast
Various rumors cite the return of some of the first film's cast, such as Linden Ashby and Christopher Lambert as Johnny Cage and Raiden, respectively, and Chris Casamassa as Scorpion.. Additional rumors claim that Sandra Hess, from Annihilation, will portray Sonya Blade, rather than Bridgette Wilson from the first film.
Lambert has stated that he will be appearing in Devastation, as Raiden once again, but didn't share any details about his fellow cast members or the plot.
The film's cast has yet to be confirmed by any official source.
Crew
Currently, two different directors are rumored to be tied to the third Mortal Kombat film, mink and Christopher Morrison.
Drew McWeeny and Scott Swan are said to be developing the screenplay, with Lawrence Kasanoff producing.
Like the cast, no crew member has been officially confirmed.
