==Personality==

Courage has the quality of never giving up. He has a compassionate side, often showing kindness and friendship to the creatures shunned by the rest of society. Courage often gets frightened easily. He shows respect for Muriel and not that much for Eustace. Courage speaks in standard ] to the viewers, but when he wants to convey a messsage to other characters of the series, he usually speaks through a high-pitched incoherent babble that only ] & ] understand.

==Childhood==

{{Main|In Remembrance of Courage Past}}

Courage had lived with his parents as a pup until an evil veterinarian rocketed his parents to the moon as part of an experiment. Muriel found Courage in an alley sobbing over his parents soon after and took him with her home. This veterinarian later attempted to send Courage to the moon as well, but Courage escaped and threw the veterinarian into the rocket instead. On the moon, it showed Courage's Parents still alive ready to beat up the vet.

==Quotes==

Courage is recognizable for his scream of terror (often accompanied by exaggerated and grotesque visual images) and his catchphrases:
*"The things I do for love!"
*"(action here) or my name's (something rather unusual). And it's not!"
*and on at least one occasion "(action here) or my names stinky lou lou, and thank goodness it's not.
*"Oh no!"
*"Yes!"
*"What do I do? What do I do?"
*"Muriel's in trouble!"
*"Muriel, I'll save you!"
*"I know I'm not gonna like this!"
*an incoherent babble
*"This shouldn't happen to a dog."
*"Sometimes a dog's got to do what a dog's got to do and I'm the only dog here!"
* (After a complement) *chuckles in a gagging way*

==Trivia==

*When Cartoon Network watched the show during season 1, they agreed that Courage "talked too much" and ordered that his English lines were to be reduced. This explains why Courage doesn't speak much in seasons 2, 3, and 4. The idea of turning Courage from a talking dog to a dog with few lines caused mixed reactions. Some thought that CN made it look like Courage cannot talk at all as there have been episodes where he is silent.

*Courage has a hole in his tooth and the show has never shown how he got it. Many fans believe it was from bad hygiene.

*He has been portrayed by ] throughout the entire series.

*Courage also seems to have an odd ability to change his shape in a comic style, such as folding himself up to go through the letter slot or imitating a monster in a vain attempt to warn his owners of danger. This may possibly be a reference to ].

*In ''Hard Drive Courage'', it was revealed that Courage has ] on his computer.

*Courage has broken the ] when talking to the viewers.

*Everytime Di Lung appears in an episode, Courage always imitates him by saying "You Fool".
