Templates

I created those to match the {{citation-needed}} template, which is used sometimes when people want to request a citation, but don't actually doubt the validity of what was posted, which is somewhat implied by adding {{fact}}. Sorry about that, but I have taken care of those that I created. --Lethargy 19:09, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

The Halo's RfA

Ligulem...
Thank you very much for your support in my request for adminship. Ultimately, no consensus was reached, and I failed to be promoted, but I am very grateful for your support.
Ligulem, thank you for your support in my RfA. I am grateful for your trust, and hope I can prove you right in the future, by bettering myself as an editor. Good luck with your own RfA as well :)
Yours, Thε Halo

Thanks Ligulem

Hey Ligulem, thank you for supporting my recent RfA. It finished with an amazing final tally of 160/4/1. I really appreciate your support. Cheers, Sarah Ewart (Talk) 10:53, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Congrats

Congrats on the adminship, you've been handed the almighty golden mop.--Andeh 12:15, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Heh, no fair beating me to the congrats, I've got more work to do in the closing. :) But in any case, keep up the good work. Be conservative with the admin tools, especially at first. Polite warnings and de-escalating usually works better than blocking and inflammatory wording. Re-read the policies before taking action and as you get comfortable dig in and help with the backlogs. Again, congratulations. - Taxman 12:25, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Hey wow! And did'nt get to vote for you :(( Congrats anyway! --hydkat 12:28, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
No problem (I only canvassed off wiki :-). Thanks everyone. The new buttons look cool. And dangerous too. Even more opportunities to make errors now (shudder). I must be damn careful. I'm glad that RfA week is over now. --Ligulem 12:37, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Congratulations on getting the mop and bucket, Ligulem! I hope that I will join you as administrator tomorrow, once my own RfA is completed. --Nishkid64 21:03, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the quote param, Lig

and may you use your new powers wisely, as I'm sure you will. JDG 03:44, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

String functions?

Hello Ligulem, and warmest congratulations on your adminship! I was wondering if you might have time to answer a question for me that I have been trying to figure out for a couple of weeks now, but without success. I have recently created a "navbar" template Template:Nav Arch-all ‎for Talk Archive files (TAFs) and would like to code it in such a way that the user doesn't have to provide any parameters. As it now stands, it requires one user-entered parameter -- i.e., the number of the TAF on which it is placed. I would like to use string functions to analyze the end of the name of the TAF on which it is placed so that the user doesn't need to enter that number. I found the description of string functions on Meta ( http://meta.wikimedia.org/StringFunctions ) and if I could use them I could work this out. However, when I try to use them, nothing seems to happen. Therefore, I am wondering, am I doing something wrong, or are they still not implemented in en.wikipedia? If they are not, is there any workaround available? Many thanks -- Polaris999 22:10, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Also, thank you for your very kind support. Per your question, I will have a look tomorrow (it's already a bit late for me, 0:38 am). Don't hesitate to kick me again if I should forget. --Ligulem 22:39, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

I've had a look. says that StringFunctions are not implemented on this wiki (seems to be a proposal to extend m:ParsersFunctions). I'm not aware a workaround, sorry. --Ligulem 08:13, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Many thanks for having a look at it. I believe that I have thought of a way to handle it but figuring out the code may prove to be more trouble than it's worth. Perhaps one day those string functions will be implemented here; I certainly hope so as they would seem to offer many new possibilities for the future development of templates. -- Polaris999 05:08, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Follow-up: This seems to do the trick: Template:Auto-taf-nav ... (but being able to use string functions would certainly be more elegant!) -- Polaris999 02:49, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

I see you are a template whizzard yourself :). Per the string functions, I do have near zero influence on whether they are implemented on the site or not. This is up to User:Brion Vibber and User:Tim Starling. The devs are generally very reluctant to add new "programming" like features. And right they are (it's a road of no return). Nevertheless, I probably could solve a long standing issue with template:cite book with the string functions (The obnoxious double period bug ). But the important thing is m:ParserFunctions. I'm very glad we have that (thanks to Tim Starling). --Ligulem 08:07, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Ligulem and many thanks for your very kind words! I continue to delve into the mysteries of templates, mostly by studying those you have created and also through experimentation. I just now finished Template:auto-utaf-nav that does the same thing for User Talk Archive files that Template:auto-taf-nav does for article TAFs. Perhaps one day User:Brion Vibber and User:Tim Starling will look kindly upon us and decide that the time for String Functions has come. In the meantime, I will concentrate on trying to learn the intricacies of m:ParserFunctions ... -- Polaris999 05:13, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Ezproxy Thingy

Hi, I am behind Auckland University's proxy server. So whatever website, I go to, it adds that ezproxy.auckland.ac.nz thingy to it. Please don't consider it as a spam link. Thanks --Ageo020 (talkcontribscount) 22:12, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Nishkid referred me to you

Nishkid said you were an expert on tables/templates, so I was wondering if you could help me out with New Hampshire State House of Representatives Election, 2006, it's had some issues in loading. People Powered 00:19, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

What do you need to know? I suggest to ask specific questions. I don't know what you mean by "issues with loading". The page loads for me, although that many images seems to make it very slow. Maybe you could do without that many images? --Ligulem 08:21, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Articles

These articles are listed in the article under vote, therefore, it is not canvassing, it advising people of a vote, should they wish to participate. Thank you MapleTree 22:37, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Template:Mergeto

Thanks very much for improving the syntax! I wasn't aware that it could be simplified in that manner. —David Levy 00:25, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome. See m:ParserFunctions. --Ligulem 12:10, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Insert table

Hmm, odd. It was still showing up on my toolbar. After my edit I did a hard refresh and it went away - so unless my cache was two days old (possible) - your commenting might not have been enough. Anyway, no harm done. ed g2stalk 14:04, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

Sorry for the chaos I created, sometime I'm to fast in my decissions, I have withdrawn the nom now, sorry for the inconvinience. AzaToth 16:56, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Bad links

This edit or perhaps the associated move, made many links in the arbitration case I was working on worthless. Fred Bauder 12:30, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

It was the move. I have moved it back and the diffs are restored. There is no reason a new page at Misplaced Pages:Village pump (RfA) could not be created, but please don't move the archives again. Fred Bauder 12:47, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
Hmm. I didn't know that ArbCom cases prohibit moves of pages. I sure won't revert you. It was a proposal and you reverted. That's it :) --Ligulem 14:43, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Omega34

thank you very much for your helpful advice Omega34 23:56, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Found hell

I just fixed Template:Infobox Pref GR (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs), it was using hiddenstructure... Wonder if there are more templates still using that hideous thing? AzaToth 00:08, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

There are sure a couple of them out there. It sprinkled considerably over Misplaced Pages... --Ligulem 00:13, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps we should request a database query to find them? AzaToth 00:16, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
I'll do a scan of the newest XML dump ( →pages-articles.xml.bz2) with AWB. I'm starting the download right now, and will post the list as soon as I have it. --Ligulem 08:39, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
I finished downloading pages-articles.xml.bz2 (1,827,812,154 bytes). Running bunzip2 now. --Ligulem 11:25, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Extracted (7'624'871'936 bytes). --Ligulem 12:22, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Dump search finished! List is at User:Ligulem/work/templates using hiddenStructure. I suggest we strike out entries that are cleaned-up. --Ligulem 12:44, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Infobox updates

Thnank you for updating the syntax at Template:Infobox Muscle. If you're looking for more to convert, a list of the other anatomy templates is visible at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Anatomy#Infoboxes. Also, Template:Protein still uses the old syntax. --Arcadian 16:42, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Yup. template:Protein is on the list we are currently doing (see the section right above). --Ligulem 16:51, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

HiddenStructure obliteration

Thanks for the heads-up. (FWIW I tend to use AWB for extended stuff like that anyway, to keep track of what I'm doing and to provide regex facilities.) Cheers HAND —Phil | Talk 14:03, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
