Originally known as the Clutha Employees Credit Union, '''The Mac''' was founded by a group of truck drivers and miners that aimed help local coal miners who were being denied acces to financial products and loans.<br />
The Credit Union developed quickly, and in a short time became an integral part of the local community. In 1978 membership was extended to the entire Macarthur district, and Clutha Employees Credit Union became known as Macarthur Credit Union: a credit union born to serve the financial needs of the Macarthur district.
