Revision as of 08:50, 8 November 2017

I am currently only moderately active on Misplaced Pages. I've been uploading a lot of my own photos (and occasionally some other images) to the Commons, writing the occasional article, participating in other articles mainly on a "hit-and-run" basis, and maybe doing the occasional translation, but for the foreseeable future, that is my level of participation. I am not being one of the "mainstays", as I was from November 2003 to April 2007. - Jmabel | Talk 04:18, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

The Tower House

Hi. Several queries. The first, I've said to KJP1 that I doubt we can use those plan images as the book they're taken from is dated 1973 and unless we can prove that the plans were made much earlier, like in the 1870s they should be deleted in the commons. i've said though that we might be able to claim fair use on the external plan. Secondly, I've found two PD images I think here, the second if you click forward on 4 of 147 is there. There's at least 2 others on that site though. The photos are dated to the 1870s and should quality for PD. The problem is that when I try to upload the larger size is php which won't upload, and of course the large watermark. I feel sure that there's a way around this. The source of the photos on ribapix is The House of William Burges ARA, edited by R. P. Pullan (Burges' brother-in-law) (London, 1875-1885) As its portfolio no. 26 and the four images I've found on ribapix are sourced to the book, it should contain a gallery of images of the house and might be worth checking out in a library. Can you help, we badly need a few images of the interior.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:58, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

I can't help in the sense of seeking out the book -- much too busy now -- but if there is an image that is visible via a viewer, there are two possibilities: (1) work out the URL (if any) of the underlying image and get around the tool directly to the image or (2) do a series of screen captures of portions of the image and put them back together with Paint, GIMP, PhotoShop, or a similar tool.
Also, in terms of the images from the book: it presumably gives photo credits, no? - Jmabel | Talk 17:14, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
Richard Popplewell Pullan I think yes who inherited the house after Burges. They're definitely public domain. Perhaps you could have a go when you have time?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:21, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
I don't see anything here I can do more easily than someone else. What am I missing? - Jmabel | Talk 05:36, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Puget Passes.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Puget Passes.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 14:54, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

  • I would like to point out that when I uploaded this in 2007, we did not have our current templates for non-free use, and the image was used at that time in an article. It is now orphaned (probably because these passes are no longer used) and should be deleted. - Jmabel | Talk 15:23, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Satz Moshiach Kumt.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Satz Moshiach Kumt.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Misplaced Pages. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Public-sector trade union Comment

In February 2014, you placed a "POV tag" on the Public-sector trade union article. The article was an editorial. I removed unreferenced information, original resources, and added citation tags. Unfortunately, those changes took out a lot of prose, but I think it was necessary. You might want to reorganize and then reevaluate the article. Just FYI, buddy. Proposed deletion of București Mall

The article București Mall has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

NN 410,000 sq ft mall

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Epeefleche (talk) 04:55, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

This editor is also speedy tagging clearly notable festivals in Germany too which simply just need expansion. If he continues to do this then I think something needs to be done about it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:55, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

  • The article is a stub. However, the issue raised was notability. It was the first mall in its country, and the article states that, so notability should not be at issue. - Jmabel | Talk 16:08, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

w:pt:Population Matters

Hi, in case you have the time, I'm making a general request hoping that someone can tidy my machine code translation of the Population Matters' article mentioned. (Ultimately I hope to move the article to "População é importante" or whatever might be the best translation of "Population (as a subject) is important"). The article is currently up for deletion so I'm contacting a few potential translators. Please check: W:pt:Population_Matters&action=history to avoid wasting time. If the article is deleted I would still appreciate its development at w:pt:Usuário(a):Gregkaye/Testes. Any help with any population related article would also be appreciated. Many thanks Gregkaye (talk) 06:14, 15 July 2014 (UTC) w:en:User_talk:Gregkaye

Sorry, I can't help here.
  1. My Portuguese is not good enough to do translation into Portuguese. I read the language relatively well, but would never claim to be able to write it acceptably.
  2. In general, machine translation is not encouraged as a way to produce Misplaced Pages articles. People who want that low-quality text can just get a machine translation themselves via Google, etc.

Still only a guess who you are, but thank you on the book front. No idea when I'll get to it, though: I have a crazy backlog of stuff to read... - Jmabel | Talk 19:53, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
I know the feeling. I usually divide my time by reading two books: one during the day (usually non-fiction), while for the second one I reserve a few minutes of reading before going to bed. That's how I started reading this one before it got me hooked up, making me read some 200 pages during the last couple of last days. They're gonna make a movie about this one (think of Oliver Twist meeting Holden's Catcher in the Rye). Speaking of movies, there's a new movie coming out depicting ol' Vlad in "Dracula Untold" (budget: 100 million bucks). I'm telling you this because I know how much you love Dracula books (lolz). Anyways, one should always read what they feel like reading, and I'm sure your list is good enough. Catch you later! --Cei Trei (talk) 21:03, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
OK, the Dracula remark confirms your identity.
As for books in progress: multiply the fiction+non-fiction by English+Spanish (plus trying to learn some Japanese at the moment because I'm going to be there for a little over a week later this year). - Jmabel | Talk 22:59, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Your comment at ANI about me /Dr Blofeld and SchroCat's misconduct

Regarding your comment at ANI about me, please have a look at these elements concerning the behavior of Dr Blofeld and SchroCat in the article, which I wrote on the Paris talk page yesterday and which I have also brought to the attention of the admin Bbb23 :

There were various discussions on the talk page and arbitrations before July 2013 which User:Metropolitan has summarized above , and they all concluded that there was no consensus for a photomontage replacing the single view of the Eiffel Tower and La Défense. User:Dr. Blofeld started editing the Paris article on 23 June 2013 because it had been nominated for GA (Good Article) status, and on 2 July 2013 this editor put a photomontage in the infobox without paying attention to the previous talk page discussion and arbitrations or opening a discussion on the talk page: . 5 days later, I reverted Dr. Blofeld's montage and politely pointed out that there was no consensus for a montage, and that it had already been discussed on the talk page (in case Dr Blofeld didn't know): . Only 3 and half hours later, I was reverted by User:SchroCat without any explanation: . Please note that after going back in the edit history of the article until 2011, I cannot find a single edit by SchroCat in the Paris article until that 7 July 2013 edit which consisted in reverting me and replacing Dr Blofeld's montage in the infobox. SchroCat came to the article apparently with the sole intention of "protecting" the montage of Dr. Blofeld. And all that has happened since then is the consequence of this original problem: forcing a montage in the infobox with disregard for all previous talk page discussions and arbitrations, and then reverting anyone who attempts to remove Dr Blofeld's montage from the article. Der Statistiker (talk) 20:36, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

I may also add that regarding your suggestion that I add things to the topic that have been neglected, I have been confronted to blanket reverts from SchroCat (see for example this one, whose justification was "Not really an improvement: Please discuss this massive disruption to the article on the talk page BEFORE taking any further action"), this coming from an editor who is a friend of Dr Blofeld (see their respective talk page histories) and who had never edited the Paris article before coming in to revert my edits.
I understand that Dr Blofled and SchroCat have lots of friends around here (and indeed you admitted that they contacted you off-Wiki), but that shouldn't give them a privilege to revert other editors at will. Der Statistiker (talk) 13:32, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

  1. Dr Blofled and SchroCat presumably contacted me precisely because as an admin who is not currently doing substantive work on en-wiki day-to-day, I don't have an axe to grind. And if you read what I wrote, I hardly handed them what they asked for, so please don't give me any conspiracy theory bull. Dr Blofled sent me an email through my wikipedia page; SchroCat followed up similarly. I don't know either of them personally, though I am moderately familiar with their work on here over the long haul.
  2. I'm not taking my time to trace through years-old history. I acknowledged you as one of the potentially useful contributors to the article, but it is clear that you are the only likely useful contributor to the article who holds certain views about where it should go now (the issue is where it should go now, not how it got here), and that is precisely what it means to go against consensus.
  3. At this time, the article is protected, which is just as well. What I'm suggesting to you is that (on the talk page) you propose content you think has a decent chance of getting consensus and see if you can build that consensus. (I suspect that some mutual trust could be built by working together on how to de-cruft the landmarks section.) If you can't, then walk away and work on something else. It's a big project. I've certainly walked away from articles where I thought I was dead right simply because I couldn't get consensus. See the history of the Blackface article, especially Talk:Blackface/Archive_3 for a good example of this. Because all you accomplish this way is to waste a lot of time, yours and theirs.
  4. I will also reiterate here something I said on AN/I: if you are going to recruit people into Misplaced Pages, then recruit them into doing useful work, not into coming in here to amp up the volume of an argument. If they are effectively meat puppets, recruited to take a side in an argument with no expertise and no significant involvement in this site, then their opinions will be rightly ignored in sorting out what is the consensus. - Jmabel | Talk 16:10, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
I have NOT recruited anyone. Those are baseless accusations from ThePromenader and SchroCat. I am not responsible for what other people write. I am only responsible for what I write myself. As for proposing things on the talk page, I've done that all through last year, and it has always been rejected by those three editors: ThePromenader, SchroCat, and Dr. Blofeld, but you're not interested in going through the history of the article.
I also want to point out that I was NOT alone. Other editors with unquestionable record at Misplaced Pages such as User:Seudo and User:Superzoulou often agreed with me on the talk page, but they were worn out by the endless criticisms and reverts from SchroCat and Dr. Blofeld, and they stopped editing the article or even trying to discuss things on the talk page, since discussions with ThePromenader, SchroCat, and Dr. Blofeld essentially never go anywhere (anyone disagreeing with them is rapidly accused of acting out of bad faith, or of lying, or of using Misplaced Pages to advance an agenda, or of being a sockpuppet/meatpuppet; it's understandable that most editors quickly run away from the article when they are subjected to that). Der Statistiker (talk) 19:36, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
If you have repeatedly proposed things on the talk page, and repeatedly had them rejected, then obviously (pretty much by definition), you cannot get consensus for your proposed changes. So walk away and work on something else, instead of wasting your time and theirs with fruitless arguments on the talk page. And while you might not be the person doing the recruiting, it defies belief that a bunch of people come to Misplaced Pages and the very first thing they do (or nearly the first thing) is to weigh in with similar opinions on what needs to happen on the "Paris" article. - Jmabel | Talk 19:47, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
I am not talking about the photomontage. I am talking about various issues with the article. For example the "Landmarks by district" section. Way too long. We told Dr Blofeld on the talk page, but since he's the one who created this section in the first place, he refused to acknowledge our criticism regarding the length. After a very acrimonious discussion (Seudo and Superzoulou also said the section was too long, so I wasn't the only one), he agreed to trim it a bit (but only marginally, and that section is still very long), but he exacted "revenge" by cutting more than half of the demographics section to which I had contributed over the years. See this edit and its crazy justification: "Demographics: As you campaigned for me to cut the landmarks I'm cutting this bloated section again to even things out".
I can present other examples (the lead of the article, the administration section, etc) where discussion with Dr Blofeld was (and still is) nearly impossible. Der Statistiker (talk) 20:13, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
I agree that the landmarks section is too long and said as much. But I'm not interested in having my talk page turn into a place to discuss the article. - Jmabel | Talk 23:49, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps what is needed here is an RFC to bring in a number of people who are more neutral. I certainly would not actively discourage you from starting one, but I'd still recommend that it's easier to walk away and work on articles where you are not in a fight with someone. - Jmabel | Talk 23:52, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
I love the way this has turned into "ah pity poor Der Statistiker, so hard done by by nasty Blofeld/Promenader/SchroCat". I noticed your forgot to mention the disgusting way you trolled the Paris talk page and article throughout the month of August 2013 with nothing but attacks and bad faith, motivated by nothing but OWN grievances that I'd developed the article and cut your massive Demographics of Paris section which had undue weight. Not sure he is really interested but I do invite Jmabel to look at the extremely hostile reception I received last year for being bold and editing it and promoting it to GA. Had you approached me in the first place in a less belligerent manner without excessive criticism I'd have been perfectly happy to talk it through with you. Then you only seemed intent on pushing your opinion and acting as if it was fact, like you are now with the image. Last year the landmarks section didn't look too excessive, it was even longer originally and the good @Tim riley: passed it as a GA. In looking at this again now, I agree that there's too many landmarks mention, some of which are not of primary importance which should be in the landmarks article not the main. I thought it important to cover by arrondisement, but Jmabel is right that it does affect the quality of prose. The main article can cover by arrondisement in detail, the main article should really be a condensed summary which I'll trim when it is unlocked again. Notice Der Statisker than if you'd provided constructive criticism in a non belligerent fashion with intent to improve the artile and assume good faith in me like with Mabel, I'm perfectly open to discussion and collaboration. I suggest you look in the mirror and look at why discussion "was (and still is) nearly impossible". As for neutrality Jmabel, I'm sure @SchroCat: and a few of the others would take great offense to that, as if they can't speak and air an opinion for themselves. I'd also like to point out that in the early stages of July-August last year Promenader was also almost as critical of my article developments as Der Statistiker and for a while the two were in support of each other. Der Statistiker's hostile attitude and pure arrogance and stubborness are to blame for their breakdown in relations. This exemplifies profoundly that it is you Der Stat who has the problem with civil discussion and collaboration, not me or Promenader.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:16, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
Well, your "perhaps what is needed here is an RFC to bring in a number of people who are more neutral" remark does make you very much a part of this. You've obviously formed your opinion that the involved editors are not willing to discuss issues fairly, I've set the record straight and told you why. Had it been you Jmabel approach on the article talk page then with your usual professional manner I'm sure we'd have quickly come to an agreement on what needed work. As it stands nobody has complained about the landmark section in a year. Had another editor like yourself stopped by I'd have discussed it with him too. Conclusion?:Der Statistiker's abrasive attitude and stubborness means that coming to an agreement with him over anything is impossible. Anyway, enough from me, thanks for the time you've put into this already Jm.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:00, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Will You Consider Overturning my Ban?

Hi Jmabel, excuse me for ban-evading via an IP address to ask you to consider unbanning me, but I don't see any other choice. I was permanently blocked more than two years ago on charge of sockpuppetry, which I deny. I am asking you and three other administrators to look at it. I just picked you off the list, checking only that you were recently active.

I need to keep this invitation neutral, so the best thing is just to point you to my RFC/U (https://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Colton_Cosmic#Statement_of_the_dispute). I can't restrain myself from saying that the RFC/U was kidnapped by my long-term hounders, and that I was denied the ability to speak in my own defense (unheard of in RFC/Us and against their clear instructions.

I'll also risk saying, but judge for yourself, that I never socked Misplaced Pages, and that an injustice has been perpetrated against me.

Have a look at the Timoner page

… for what I have been doing for this Ondi Timoner article. It should, I hope, begin to address the issue of hype that has existed there. Note, one issue is the Interloper Films content licensing, which should never has been allowed in the first place (see Talk section in re: the same). Ramon Casas i Carbó

Hello,

I come to you as you wrote the most part of that article (Ramon Casas i Carbó). I am looking for a "correct" (copyright wise) version of this drawing as I'm not sure I can upload something from tumblr on Commons. Would you know where I could find such a picture ? Thanks, Cédric Boissière (talk) 15:00, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

You can answer on my talk page (fr:Discussion utilisateur:Cédric Boissière) on the french wiki, even in english.

  • The version of the image isn't at issue: either the drawing is in copyright or it isn't. I believe Casas i Carbó's work should be out of copyright because he died over 70 years ago and was a national of a country where that is the term for which copyright is retained after death, but if you want an expert opinion I suggest you ask at Commons:Commons:Village pump/Copyright. - Jmabel | Talk 18:53, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Re: George Washington (Coppini, 1927)

Greetings. I am not sure about the copyright statuses of the sculptures, nor do I know if copyright is based on the original design or if later casts are considered separate works. If the former, then the work should be in the public domain since it was created in 1912. The Portland cast is right on the border... created in 1926 and dedicated in 1927. If I am being honest, copyright rules drive me a little nuts so I tend to just upload images of works I know are old enough to be in the public domain, or sometimes I just upload images of public art to Commons and let others worry about copyright, though I am embarrassed to admit it. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:30, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Celia Adler

Hello, Joe - I'm presuming on our recent acquaintance to approach you for guidance and perhaps a boost. For a Hebrew Misplaced Pages women's biographies project, I agreed to create a page for Celia Adler based on the English. My intention to expand the English page first began with some cleanup and minor expansion on that of her mother, Dinah Shtettin, at which point I got bogged down. It seems I have no nearby library resources available on the topic and haven't yet searched the Web. Would you be willing and able to add relevant content on Celia Adler or otherwise advise me how to proceed? Thanks! -- Deborahjay (talk) 19:44, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Probably the article consists mostly of what little I found about here while researching for the article on her father. It looks like just Googling her name turns up quite a bit, and if you want to work on the article I think that's where to start.
Beyond that, I'm up to my neck in other projects, and while I speak some Yiddish I'm afraid I'm illiterate in that language (somehow I've never learned the Hebrew alphabet; go figure; it would probably take me a matter of days, but I've never done it), and I suspect the best sources are mostly in that language. The Forward's website is down at the moment, so I have no idea what kind of online archives they might have: I imagine they'd be more likely to have things on a New-York-based Yiddish actress than anyone else. Then there's YIVO, of course, and the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst. That's probably where I'd start asking if I (1) were doing a serious research project, (2) could cope with Yiddish-language sources, and (3) couldn't quickly find what I needed in the Forward.
Best of luck. Let me know if you don't find what you need by pretty straightforward web searches. - Jmabel | Talk 20:53, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:POUM Obreros.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:POUM Obreros.jpg.

Thank you. Diannaa (talk) 00:13, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

  • I'm not at all sure why it was removed from the article where it was relevant. I've now restored it. It's a perfect example of "GF destructive" behaviour to see an orphaned fair use image like this, but to not check the recent history of the claimed article, before trying to delete it. Andy Dingley (talk) 01:09, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
If I'm following the history correctly, it looks like the fair-use flag used to be in the infobox. Then User:Jp16103 replaced it with an SVG version. That was reverted and re-reverted, and now Jmabel has restored the fair-use image, but in the article body, leaving the SVG flag in the infobox. I have no great interest in which of the flags is used, or whether both are used as currently; I'm just trying to lay out the sequence of events for anyone who's confused. --Trovatore (talk) 01:28, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Article upgrade assistance request (Pre-translation stage)

Seasons Greetings,

This is in reference to a relatively new umbrella article on en-wikipedia named Ceremonial pole. Ceremonial pole is a human tradition since ancient times; either existed in past at some point of time, or still exists in some cultures across global continents from north to south & from east to west. Ceremonial poles are used to symbolize a variety of concepts in several different world cultures.

Through article Ceremonial pole we intend to take encyclopedic note of cultural aspects and festive celebrations around Ceremonial pole as an umbrella article and want to have historical, mythological, anthropological aspects, reverence or worships wherever concerned as a small part.

While Ceremonial poles have a long past and strong presence but usually less discussed subject. Even before we seek translation of this article in global languages, we need to have more encyclopedic information/input about Ceremonial poles from all global cultures and languages. And we seek your assistance in the same.

Since other contributors to the article are insisting for reliable sources and Standard native english; If your contributions get deleted (for some reason like linguistics or may be your information is reliable but unfortunately dosent match expectations of other editors) , please do list the same on Talk:Ceremonial pole page so that other wikipedians may help improve by interlanguage collaborations, and/or some other language wikipedias may be interested in giving more importance to reliablity of information over other factors on their respective wikipedia.

This particular request is being made to you since your user name is listed in Misplaced Pages:Translators available list.

Thanking you with warm regards Mahitgar (talk) 05:16, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Your edit re: Paris attacks

About your edit in the history section of the Paris article shortening anecdotal "presentism" as you put it, I of course entirely agree with it, and also think that it should be edited down even further. Note that Minato ku did exactly that 4 days ago () but was reverted within 2 hours by SiefkinDR () and then criticized by ThePromenader on the talk page in this section: Talk:Paris#Too much detail about events (that's how I then discovered that SiefkinDR was turning the Economy of Paris article into a History of the economy of Paris). It's that sort of aggressiveness or obstructiveness whenever non-regular editors dare to make an edit in the Paris article which has been detrimental to this article. All the French editors have fled from the article (I remember the days when several French Wikipedians edited this article; today I see none). That should raise questions among non-involved admins/editors. Der Statistiker (talk) 12:18, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

However, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure all media on English Misplaced Pages is correctly licensed and attributed it would be appreciated if you were able to confirm, that it was your own work, by marking it as {{own}}, amending the {{information}} added by a third party, and by changing the license to an appropriate "self" variant. Speedy deletion nomination of Kishan

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Kishan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Berek (talk) 16:29, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

  • @Berek: I once upon a time put a redirect at Kishan. Someone changed it appropriately to a disambiguation. Then someone else changed it to a crap article. Clearly the appropriate thing to do is to revert it to a disambiguation, not to delete it (speedily or otherwise). More to the point though: I had nothing to do with the poor state of the article, so why am I getting this notice? - Jmabel | Talk 17:09, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Jmabel. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Jmabel.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

Ghetto Brothers

An article you wrote eons ago. Just fyi, Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Cornell Benjamin will probably be redirected to Ghetto Brothers and I thought you wrote it, yo might want to go back and do a little sourcing to that page. Just a suggestion, since I assume you know something about the topic. Cheers.E.M.Gregory (talk) 18:57, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

  • @E.M.Gregory: Unfortunately, most of my sourcing was from a live interview by Jeff Chang at the EMP Pop Conference that I'm not sure was preserved, but I presume much of what I wrote could be sourced from Chang's book Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop, which I'm afraid I haven't read. I imagine I can track down a copy some time, but I'm a bit busy right now, so I'll just add it to the article as "Further reading" & see what I can do with a couple of hours of online research. - Jmabel | Talk 20:08, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Garage rock project

I have been speaking to another editor about the possibility of proposing a garage rock Wiki project. I know that you have covered the topic, and was wondering if you would like to participate in such a venture? Garagepunk66 (talk) 04:24, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

We'd love to have you on the task force (it's looking like it will be a task force rather than a full Wiki project). It wouldn't involve that much extra work, and your experience would be a great thing to have there. Garagepunk66 (talk) 03:25, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Regarding recent refactoring/deletion in my user space

Hi Jmabel,

Please explain what's going on with quote removal on my talkpage. It's my initial feeling that if someone has an issue with something left on my talkpage they need to be communicating such as a request—with context and explanation—to me directly in some manner (such as leaving a message on my talkpage and/or a 'pinging' me from another talkpage). I was considering transcribing the whole thread over to Commons ... So having the thread turned into a 'moving target' by others (without the courtesy of direct communication to me) felt disorientating and distracting. It seems reasonable to expect to have some input into how such gets handled on one's own talkpage, yes?

For example perhaps a bracketed "" line left in place with the original signature and timestamp might have served to better preserve historical accuracy. But I wasn't given an opportunity in advance to suggest such—or anything else—and instead was just left to address the alteration (or not) myself after-the-fact ... <sigh> ...

If someone else would like to copy the whole thread from my talkpage over to an appropriate thread on Commons and then leave a link appended to the thread on my page noting such ("Discussion continued at ...", etc.) please feel free to do so. As the thread deals with confirming and/or establishing Commons policy it likely should, in retrospect, have taken place there in the first place—perhaps on the discussion page of the file in question. I was planning to copy the thread to Commons with a neatly placed and titled 'collapse top/bottom' template preceded by an introductory line or few and then follow from there with further thoughts/replies/policy research (feel free to consider such as a suggestion at this point; I'm going to divert my attention elsewhere for awhile).
--Kevjonesin (talk) 03:23, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

  • Wikicology is apparently banned from the English-language Misplaced Pages. I'm the one who originally copied his remark there. He requested (on the thread I posted a link to right after I removed the copied remark) that I remove it, presumably because he doesn't want to be seen as trying to evade the ban by having someone else post his remarks on his behalf. - Jmabel | Talk 04:11, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Jmabel, I don't see "presumably because he doesn't want to be seen as trying to evade the ban by having someone else post his remarks on his behalf" as presenting a problem on my talkpage. You clearly conveyed that you were quoting a public record from elsewhere and indicated that it was you who had done so by signing and dating your comment. If Wikicology wishes to ping me on Commons or leave a message on my talkpage there explaining why they wish me to refactor 'my'* talkpage they're welcome to do so. In the meantime, I'll be restoring your quote-comment that was removed as at present I prefer to let it stand for the record as originally posted. Oh, and, BTW, FWIW, User:Checkingfax followed having been tagged above by making yet another unauthorized deletion at my talkpage. At present I'm inclined to respond to any further unauthorized mucking about in my userspace by initiating administrative action.

--Kevjonesin (talk) 13:11, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Please see commons:User_talk:Kevjonesin#Your_talk_page., where Wikicology has clarified that I understood his intent correctly. This is a situation where it is impossible to make everyone happy. You and he are making conflicting demands. My edits to your talk page did not effectively remove information from the discussion: they turned a copy into a link. That seemed to be the closest I could come to accommodating you both. When I made originally copied the remarks, I had no idea Wikicology was banned from the English-language wikipedia. Similarly, he presumably will not be following our discussion here, and certainly cannot respond here. I personally have no problem with you restoring the quotation from him (and certainly no problem with you restoring me saying he's dead wrong), but do be aware that in restoring it you are going against his express request. - Jmabel | Talk 15:29, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

It's my understanding that one's contributions to Wikimedia sites (including to talkpage discussions) are by default considered contributions to the public domain. I'll deal with Wikicology on Commons when and as I see fit.
Hi, Kevjonesin. No. Wikimedia contributions are not Public Domain. Wikicology requested that his words be removed and they were not. In good faith I removed them per his request to me. If you did not like the manner that I refactored things, you could have easily cleaned it up without making a federal case about it - and a huge mess. You still have that opportunity. Please remove my signature from your talk page, as I contributed no content to your page, and I do not care to be attributed for that which I am not responsible for. See my edit summaries for rationale. As always, WP:AGF and WP:TPG. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 00:21, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
Jmabel as you yourself have indicated you were not acting upon the direction of Wikicology when you originally posted the quote in question to my en.Misplaced Pages user talkpage. However; again as you yourself have indicated, you were acting on behalf of Wikicology – a user banned from en.Misplaced Pages for—in short—disruptive and erratic editing and deemed untrustworthy and inconsistent by arbcom – when you chose to refactor the comment on my en.Misplaced Pages user talkpage; as was Checkingfax when he refactored the same comment previous to you (contrary to the very talkpage guidelines he linked in his edit summary wherein he offered vague 'acronym salad' rather than straightforward elaboration as to what had prompted his edit). You both performed an edit to my userspace at en.Misplaced Pages in response to a request from an indefinitely banned user made upon another Wiki without advance discussion with me or anyone else here on en.Misplaced Pages, correct? I am befuddled why you both seem to have felt such urgency to extend a courtesy to a self declared banned user speaking from another site, yet have not shown willingness to extend courtesy to me—an active en.Misplaced Pages editor in good standing—by by for instance including me in deciding how to respond to a request made elsewhere by a banned user regarding refactoring my own talkpage. Checkingfax made a third-party drive by edit without so much as a 'howdy-do', which I reverted, and then you, Jmabel, presumed to revert my reversion on my own talkpage without advance notice or consultation. Is it any wonder that I'm feeling abused and disrespected at this point? Would either of you appreciate it if I (or another editor) presumed to supersede you in your namespace? I reiterate, why have y'all held Wikicology's "express request" to be so urgent and important here on en.Misplaced Pages while brushing off my interest in being included in shaping my own namespace? I should hope it's clear by now that I feel I've been rudely disregarded in this matter; something along the lines of, "Oops, sorry I stepped on your toes, I'll try to be more careful in the future", would go a long way towards helping me put this to rest. --Kevjonesin (talk) 21:51, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
My initial edit was indeed not at Wikicology's request: it was an effort to comply with User:KDS4444's request at commons:Village pump/Copyright "please respond either at the Village Pump or, ideally, on the talk page of one of the participants here rather than start another thread here at the copyright section of Commons." At the time, I had no idea why Wikicology nonetheless put his comment right there in the copyright section of Commons (in particular, I had no idea he was banned on en-wiki.), so I had no idea that anyone might consider my copying it to the requested location other than constructive. Once I was told (by Wikicology) about Wikicology's ban I tried to remedy my mistake. Again: I replaced a quotation with a link, there was no loss of information. And, again, if you want to leave the quote there despite his wishes, then that doesn't concern me. Of course I'll try to be careful in the future. - Jmabel | Talk 22:27, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
(Goodness, all I was trying to do was create a centralized venue for a discussion— I did not figure it mattered greatly where it took place, so long as it did not take place in three different places. If that resulted in intrusion, then I am very sorry. I did not consider the decision of where to hold the discussion as at all relevant, I just wanted to have the discussion! KDS4444 (talk) 06:26, 21 January 2017 (UTC))
  • Jmabel, you seem to have again missed my point. The quality of your rationale for reverting on my talkpage is not what I bring into question, but rather whether it was properly your place to do so on your own without consulting me in the first place, regardless of rationale. You lost sight of context, you forgot your surroundings (or so I give you the benefit-of-the-doubt, perhaps in fact you and Checkingfax simply hold no respect for en.Misplaced Pages customs regarding deference to users in regards to decisions about their own namespace). Whichever it may be, as I now feel you both have been rude guests, and appear to me unapologetic for having done so, I say "Sully my doorstep no more!" (ie. Jmabel and Checkingfax I, Kevjonesin, formerly request that you have no more interaction with my namespace at en.Misplaced Pages; henceforth do not post to, comment on, or otherwise edit User talk:Kevjonesin without explicit invitation by me to do so). --Kevjonesin (talk) 12:27, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

  • KDS4444, "all I was trying to do was create a centralized venue for a discussion" ... about Wikimedia Commons policy-&-protocol on another's personal talkpage here at en.Misplaced Pages. By way of analogy, you chose to organize a party at my place, invited guests from another town, and never asked if I wanted to play host. Then after some of the guests you invited were rude to their host, presuming to rearrange as if they were in their own living room, you left me largely on my own to deal with sorting out the aftermath. "I did not consider the decision of where to hold the discussion as at all relevant, I just wanted to have the discussion!" ... Perhaps your desire got the better of your common sense (such has certainly happened to me before). I hope we all may learn to take better care when choosing venues in the future.
KDS4444, you've stated an apology, "If that resulted in intrusion, then I am very sorry."; something others have as yet not seen fit to do. Thank you, I appreciate the gesture. Perhaps you might be so kind as to put that sentiment into action by taking to heart the suggestion I presented at the start of this thread:

Please transcribe the text from the thread you started on my en.Misplaced Pages talkpage to the discussion-page of commons:File:Opened scallop shell (with arrows).png, give it an appropriate introduction (eg. "The following has been transcribed from en.Misplaced Pages and placed here on Commons as it addresses Commons policy in general and this file page specifically."), and then add brief notes elsewhere on Commons where appropriate (ie. where you've previously linked my en.Misplaced Pages talkpage; a link to the new target with a brief explanation directing folks to no longer use the previous link to my en.Misplaced Pages userspace should suffice). KDS4444, I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd take responsibility for these 'mopping up' tasks (ie. help clean up after your party at my place) so that I may feel free to get back to addressing the actual Commons policy/protocol issues you've raised regarding file authorship and such. Thanks for your time and consideration, -- Kevjonesin (talk) 12:27, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
@Kevjonesin: I will stay off of your user talk page in the future. - Jmabel | Talk 18:17, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
  • Thank you.

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Fiddler on the roof poster.jpg.

Proposed deletion of Banana Boat

The article Banana Boat has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Art+Feminism Misplaced Pages Edit-a-Thon

Despite its wide reach, content on Misplaced Pages suffers from the bias of its editors: white, technically inclined, English-speaking men that live in developed, majority-Christian countries. This represents an alarming absence of voices in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.

In an effort to change this, the Jake is organizing a Misplaced Pages Edit-a-thon on Saturday, May 6th, 1 - 5 pm. Our mission is to bring together diverse communities to participate in Misplaced Pages editing, and improve its coverage of queer people and women of color in the arts.

We will provide childcare, snacks, and tutorials for the beginner editor.

Bring your laptop, power-cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. No previous Misplaced Pages experience required!

RSVP at and stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates.

What: Improving Misplaced Pages's coverage on queer and women artists of color
When: Saturday, May 6, 1-5pm
Where: Jacob Lawrence Gallery, Art Building #132, 1915 NE Chelan Ln, Seattle, WA 98105
Who: People of all gender identities and expressions are invited to participate.
What to bring: A laptop and power cord. Access to UW wifi will be provided for non-UW affliated participants.

Can you help verify translations of articles from Romanian

Hello,

Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Misplaced Pages articles from Romanian to English Misplaced Pages?

File:Language icon.svg

This would involve evaluating a translated article on English Misplaced Pages by comparing it to the original Romanian article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:

There are a number of articles on English Misplaced Pages that were created as machine translations from different languages including Romanian , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Romanian. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.

If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:

  • Ellie White – ✓ Pass; accurate, but barely 10% of the Romanian article
  • Pegas – ✓ Pass; cleaned up and should be fine; some contradictions with ro version, but refs support en version so prob. ok
  • Toate pînzele sus – ✓ Pass; basically accurate; English wasn't very good, now fixed. 2 paragraphs in original not translated.
  • Genoese Lighthouse – ✓ Pass; basically solid; I've fixed two minor issues
  • Gelu Barbu – ✓ Pass; "basically accurately translated," but incomplete

All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Romanian article, and mark it "Pass" or "Fail" (templates {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} may be useful). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "Pass", that's even better, but it isn't required.)

If you can help, please let me know. Thanks! Mathglot (talk) 09:55, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Wow, that's great, thank you! I'm still searching for additional helpers for Romanian, in fact, if you can drop a few usernames here or on my talk page of users you know who might be able to help with Romanian (also other Ctrl European languages), I'd love to hear about it. In the meantime while I'm looking, can I pass you another five articles? Thanks again, Mathglot (talk) 06:33, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
  • Most days I won't have that kind of time to put into it; if you drop me more articles, don't expect anything like comparable response time. I'll get to it, but not necessarily promptly.
  • The problem in terms of contributors who can read Romanian is, unsurprisingly: most of them are native Romanian speakers who are not at a comparable level in English, so they can do a great job of translating English to Romanian, but not vice versa (much as I can competently translate Romanian to English, but not vice versa). I haven't been active enough lately in the English-language Misplaced Pages to name names of who is currently active and capable of going this direction, but I'd suggest that as this moves forward you just keep an eye out for who does the translations that turn out to be good, and try working with them. - Jmabel | Talk 14:38, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
Hi, Jmabel. Understood, and I appreciate whatever assistance you can provide. Your comment about the ro->en vs en->ro is a good one, I will probably go mine the ro-5 and ro-4 lists and double-check that they are high- or native-English (as opposed to: <ro-4, hu-N, en-1> for example) to make sure they're good in the ro->en direction.
If you do feel like looking at some more, we'd certainly appreciate it, here's the remainder of the list:
List of articles translated from Romanian wikipedia
As far as spending time: it's much more important for us in the short term to get a Pass/Fail assessment, than to have the articles actually fixed. I assume that that would speed things up considerably for you since it's just a binary decision. But we're all volunteers here, so you do whatever you have time for, and what you enjoy.
Thanks again for your help, and happy editing! Mathglot (talk) 23:31, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
FWIW, I only count myself as ro-2, en-N. I wouldn't presume to write anything in Romanian beyond an informal communication, but I read it pretty well. - Jmabel | Talk 23:41, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

@Mathglot: Done. - Jmabel | Talk 20:18, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

Thank you! This is really helpful. I hope it has been enjoyable as well. I will keep my eye out for any more. Note that I've repatriated some of your assessments from talk pages of articles where you wrote more at length, to the list above; if you could just double check briefly to ensure that they are valid restatements of your opinions (which I've quoted and slightly abbreviated) I'd appreciate it. Adding @Elinruby: Mathglot (talk) 22:53, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
Yes (on the first 5, you seem not to have done this on the others). - Jmabel | Talk 15:30, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
Partly because I don't want to misrepresent your assessments. For example, for Filaret Barbu, when I see a comment like, "′I suspect someone would do well to start this nearly from scratch" I want to call it a "Fail" because if it's easier to delete the article and start it over from scratch, this for me is the very definition of a "fail". But I'd rather hear that from you directly, and not make interpretations.
Do you think you could propagate your assessments from the second batch to your talk page above and assess each as a pass or a fail? I realize that in some cases trying to summarize what may be an extended discussion on that talk page or capture it in just a few words maybe problematic, but it's the nature of the beast. Mathglot (talk) 02:18, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
My assessment for Filaret Barbu, which I think I stated pretty clearly, is that someone should start over. What is the use in knowing whether it is an accurate or inaccurate translation of a poor article in Romanian? What matters is that it needs to be rewritten. - Jmabel | Talk 05:06, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
This project has a narrow scope and attempts to answer the question, Should this article be deleted because of a worthless machine translation due to a misconfig in a provided tool? Any of these articles, even if the translation is accurate, may be deleted for any of the numerous reasons that any article may be deleted, such as those listed at CSD, and others. So you're right in a sense, if the original is poor, the worth of an accurate translation is low, and one might better spend one's time calling out that fact, like you have done. If you think it's poor enough to be deleted (i.e., that starting over from scratch would be simpler) then by all means nominate it for deletion if you like, or Prod it (a much easier process) and see if anyone comes forward to deprod. Having said that, the X2 deletion criterion is limited to a specific type of translation problem, and that's what we are trying to address, but that doesn't stop anyone, anytime, from deleting any of these articles for another reason; or even better, fixing them up so they are worth keeping. Nevertheless, you raise some good points which this project doesn't handle well, such as this article, and as you say, what's the point of keeping a good translation of a bad article? The answer, is probably no point, but we can't use X2 to delete it, we'd have to use some other criterion, or fix it up. I hope this answers your question, at least in part. Mathglot (talk) 05:44, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
None of these are poor enough to be deleted. Where they were inaccurate, I've fixed that. However, for Filaret Barbu, what should be the heart of the article is missing in both the Romanian and the English. It's almost as if you wrote about Jackie Robinson as a baseball player and didn't mention race. It would still be a large portion of the article that is ultimately needed, but it would still miss the point. - Jmabel | Talk 15:10, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

I propagated a summary of your evaluations from the respective talk pages to the items in the hide/show list; can you have a quick look to make sure I fairly represented them? In sum, I understand them all to pass, except for the one that can't be compared because the orig was deleted, and also #3153, where I understood an implicit "pass" from your description of your improvements, although it wasn't stated outright. Do these look about right? Mathglot (talk) 07:52, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

Can you help verify translations of articles from Spanish

Hello Jmabel,

Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Misplaced Pages articles from Spanish to English Misplaced Pages?

File:Language icon.svg

This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Misplaced Pages by comparing it to the original Spanish article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:

There are a number of articles on English Misplaced Pages that were created as machine translations from different languages including Spanish, using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Spanish.

All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Spanish article, and mark it "Pass" or "Fail" (templates {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} may be useful). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "Pass", that's even better, but it isn't required.)

If you can help, please let me know. Thanks! Elinruby (talk) 07:49, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

  • @Elinruby: I am in the midst of doing this for several dozen articles translated from Romanian. I suspect you should find something else: native English speakers with decent Spanish should be pretty easy to come by, but native English speakers with decent Romanian are in short supply. - Jmabel | Talk 14:54, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
@Jmabel: Mathglot has been telling me this and and I was just now composing a message to this effect. Indeed, I agree. Your help is welcome with Spanish, where there is a high volume of articles, but you are the only editor we have found so far who can do Romanian so please do carry on with that as a priority. I was not aware you were doing Romanian when I sent the message about Spanish. Thank you for your help. Elinruby (talk) 15:17, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

A kitten for you!

Hi! I'm extremely new to Misplaced Pages user-hood, and I was looking for good examples of a user page when I stumbled across yours. Actually, I first saw your name in the discussions section and I wanted to let you know that you're inspiring! Thank you for all you've done here, both with photography and intellectual discourse.

Proposed deletion of Grant Harrison Jones

The article Grant Harrison Jones has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Misplaced Pages policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Boleyn (talk) 15:24, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Architecture of Seattle

On 6 November 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Architecture of Seattle, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that several buildings in Seattle (example pictured) deliberately evoke traditional regional Native American architecture? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Architecture of Seattle. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Architecture of Seattle), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Woot! Just saw this on the main page and didn't even know it was a DYK nomination. ☆ Bri (talk) 02:37, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
Yeah. Had a little bit of a battle over it, because it's far from a finished article, but once you took it live it was now or never. - Jmabel | Talk 04:22, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
