Baizuo (Chinese: 白左, literally "White left(ies)") is a derogatory Chinese epithet that came into being in the middle 10s of the 21st century. Soon, the word was inscribed on Urban Dictionary and received a considerable amount of attention. According to the Chinese media Guancha Syndicate, the word is an example of "Chinese values" exported to Western countries.

Context and Usage

The word Baizuo is, according to political scientist Dr. Zhang Chenchen, a Chinese word that ridicules Western "liberal elites". The Chinese media Global Times, on the other hand, further defined the word "Baizuo" with the definition "People who only care about topics such as immigration, minorities, LGBT and the environment". In short, the word expresses an aversion against the aforementioned ideologies that are often advocated by liberals in the West.

The use of the word "Baizuo" could be an insult on the Chinese Internet..
