Picture of the day Tocopilla railway The Tocopilla railway was a mountain railway built to serve the sodium nitrate mines in the Toco area of the Antofagasta Region in Chile. With a gauge of 3 ft 6 in (1,067 mm), it ran from the port of Tocopilla on the Pacific coast up to a height of 4,902 feet (1,494 metres), with gradients up to 1 in 24. The railway was built by a joint-stock company founded in London and was designed by William Stirling of Lima, with a detailed description of the initial operation of the railway published by his brother Robert in 1900. The line was electrified in the mid-1920s and expanded in 1930 with the addition of lines serving new areas of mining. It continued operating into the 21st century, but was forced to close in 2015 when flash flooding caused numerous washouts on the electrified section of the railroad. With the declining prospects for nitrate, it was not economical for the line to be repaired. This photograph taken in 2013 shows a boxcab on the Tocopilla railway, leading a train down towards the coast.Photograph credit: David Gubler ArchiveMore featured pictures...

Gotta go? Try the oldest toilet in the world! Unfortunately that's all you'll see on a visit to Lothal, which otherwise is host to the oldest-known port in the world. The ASI has buried the rest.

You input is requested on the Afd's for Hinduism in Azerbaijan and Anti-Hindu. Thanks.Bakaman Bakatalk 17:22, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the input. I was drawn to write it after I saw the article on Atashgah, the Fire Temple of Baku. I just wish there was more of a history, so I could DYK the article, especially the part about Czar Alexander III.Bakaman Bakatalk 17:35, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
I think that's a good idea. I'll try and work on transferring some of this article to the Central Asia one, but keep some things as separate since places like Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan were under Indian sway during certain periods of time. I made a user subpage to work on this article User:Bakasuprman/HICA. Azerbaijan though is not part of central asia, its part of the caucasus, and theres not too much hinduism in Armenia or Georgia (country). Bakaman Bakatalk 17:46, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
All right so Central Asia is (im not adding stans, too long to type) - (Turkestan, Turkmen, UZzbek, Tajik, Kyrghyz, Kazakh, NE Iran, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Mongolia) Bakaman Bakatalk 17:52, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

my RfA

Announcement: It's an administrator!

Rama's Arrow, thanks for your support on my request for adminship.

The final outcome was a robust 62/1/1, so I am now an administrator. If you ever have any questions about my actions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks again, Chris Griswold

RfA note

I changed my vote to oppose, so you may need to change your reason for supporting, since "strong support per Coredesat" might look a little weird now. :) --Coredesat 00:51, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Season's Greetings

Hello Nirav. I wish you and your family a very Happy Diwali. I hope you are enjoying yourself. :)
There is lot of revert-warring and unneeded aggression going on the Indian caste system page. I am no expert on this matter, but I will definately try to help them get that article to an NPOV form (more or less). I hope you will lend in your help as well. Best wishes and Season's Greetings. — Nearly Headless Nick 14:58, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
