{{R with history}}

The name is derived from the Greek words ''myrmex'' (ant) and ''cheilos'' (lip), referring to the arrangement of the ] calli.

This genus of terrestrial tuberous plants is indigenous to ], where it is abundant, and ], where it is close to extinction. There are two ovate leaves with conspicuous venation. A large flower grows at the end of an upright stem. They are pollinated by sexual deception and pseudocopulation of specific male thynnine ]s from the family ].

These species used to belong to the genus ''Chiloglottis'', but were transferred in 2005 by David Jones and Mark Clements to ''Myrmechila'' on morphological and molecular grounds.
