Suspected sockpuppets

  1. All three socks appeared on pages where the user is involved immediately after being registered.
    1. None of those pages appeared on WP:DYK or directly relates to current affairs, so the chances of a new user straying into them are low.
  2. All three socks have supported the user's position either in talk or by reversal of others' changes.
  3. With the exception of two pages, all of the socks have been dormant since.
  4. Despite having just registered, two of the socks seem to be "Misplaced Pages insiders", referring to edit history and an ongoing TP discussion.
  5. Except for the two "errant" pages, sock #1 also uses a similar style to the user: makes aggressive comments or hints that others have ulterior motives (something the user is well acquainted with), and uses the uncommon "baloney" and "dude". François Robere (talk) 17:29, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

These edits appear to be VM's and it is indeed uncanny to be from a random editor and from a random editor just editing a random Misplaced Pages article out of the blue, and just randomly using terminology that VM uses and randomly editing an article that VM uses while using terminology VM uses and while VM is involved in a dispute in the area as well. It's just a bit too much. See these two diffs where VM tells Icewhiz that he doesn't edit Misplaced Pages 18 hours a day, and then Wivescoals uses that same against him: , VM says, ..Not all of us edit 18 hours a day. It's summer and I was busy riding roller coasters , Wivescoals says, Crap! Icewhiz, you’re editing Misplaced Pages 18 hours a day, every day. Is that your employment or something!? And oh yeah, since we're in the business of baseless accusations here, I should note that this absurd charge of "sock puppetry" was first made, with exactly the same "evidence" (sic) that User:Sir Joseph tries to pass off below, on a couple off wiki sites (Wikipediocracy and a nasty reddit page where I've been doxxed before). Sir Joseph, care to confirm or deny whether that's where, um, you, "found" this ... possibility? Volunteer Marek 23:19, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

I should note the result of the CU is not surprising. CU is a very limited tool, and I suspected even as I filed this that VM is too smart a user to operate socks under his own IP, if he had chosen to do so. End result is we have a puppetmaster on the loose in the topic area, who mimics VM's style and has a dislike for Icewhiz. François Robere (talk) 10:41, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

information Administrator note In addition to the notes that Sir Joseph added above, I had a look at the accounts that Reaper Eternal identified that weren't on the original request:
I probably don't need to point out that Volunteer Marek and Icewhiz are presently involved in Misplaced Pages:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Antisemitism in Poland, and have been under a temporary IBAN since August 19th (and at least Alikehansky was active in the relevant topic area since that IBAN was enacted). Since the initial CU Check specifically declined to check VM but did discover other new sockpuppets, I assume that if VM were a technical match to the group above, Reaper would have discovered that. However, in light of this entire group's heavy involvement with the dispute between these two editors, would this evidence be sufficient for a CU be able to provide any further technical evidence here? Wait... Reaper Eternal, did this SPI report need to be moved to Misplaced Pages:Sockpuppet investigations/Ogledsurlyref as you indicated above? Let me know and I'll be happy to do so.
