Hi Alansohn. In case you did not receive my response on my Talk page, I'll just reinsert the message here on your talk page. If you agree that listing a few stores on a mall article would not classify as 'puffery', then why exactly did do you remove the list of stores then? If you agree that simply having a list of a few stores isn't 'puffery', then I'm glad we both have a mutual understanding. I'd imagine you would consult with me if you have any issues. <!-- Template:Unsigned --><small class="autosigned">—&nbsp;Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) 5 June 2023 (UTC)</small>

==Garden State Plaza==
Alan, apart from the issue of citation styles, you have '''removed''' valid citations from the article, and replaced them with ones that are are not in any way superior. For example, in , among the things you did was to remove , and replace it with , which does not bear the same information. Can you please tell me why you keep doing this?

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented ] to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive ] at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.
Second, with regard to ], that policy states change an article's established citation style merely on the grounds of personal preference, to make it match other articles, or without first seeking consensus for the change. Isn't this exactly what ''you'' have done? There are cite templates '''all over''' that article, you persistently remove them, and without discussion. Why is this? Do you believe there is an "established" citation style in the article? If so, what is it? What is your rationale for this? ] (]) 05:10, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
:Nightscream is correct. What you're doing is the violation of CITEVAR. Bringing a single ref inline with the rest of the article's established citation style is not a violation of CITEVAR, but changing the entire citation style, as you have done, is. And frankly, taking refs that are already rendered with templates out of them is a straight-up crappy CITEVAR violation. Knock it off, and respect the established citation style of the article, or I'm bringing you to ANI. ] (]) 13:48, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
::{{u|Nightscream}} and {{u|Oknazevad}}, as one of the earliest contributors to the article for ] some 15 years ago, I followed and helped to continue to establish the consistent citation style used in the article. Over the subsequent years, numerous editors have made additions that conflict with this consistent citation style, and other editors have made edits that consist entirely of changes to this consistent citation style, as seen in . Where I have made changes, they have been as part of comprehensive edits to the article and have either been to restore the status quo ante as the reference had been inserted or to replace a non-functional source with one that works. I had checked the source before I made at which point was not working, which is the only reason I replaced it.{{pb}}Changing citation styles is not only purposeless, it conflicts with policy, which is clear that no one citation style is "better" than another. ] (]) 13:57, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: {{User4|Cwmhiraeth}}, {{User4|Epicgenius}}, {{User4|Frostly}}, {{User4|Guerillero}} and {{User4|Lee Vilenski}}. Good luck! <small>If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from ].</small> ] (]) 00:13, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
:::Regarding the Internet Archive not working, replacing it with a signup page at Newspapers.com is not appropriate.

== John Hart in Hopewell ==
:::The fact that you edited the article years ago does not mean that there is an "established" citation style in the article, in light of the fact that the article is filled with both templated citations and non-templated citations. You simply took a citation out of a template, not any of the others in the article, an act for which there is no apparent purpose or reason.

While editing ], I noticed that he was listed as a notable person of ], but was not in ]. He lived on his farm on Hart Avenue in Hopewell from 1742 to 1779 and has a memorial at the ]. Shouldn't he be in the category? Thanks, ] (]) 11:16, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
:::Moreover, it has been my observation that wikification tends to favor placing bare citations into templates, and not the other way around. I have never observed bare citations referred to as a "style".
*<s>{{U|Zeete}}, Hart's article places him in Hopewell Township. He died in 1779, and Hopewell Borough was not formed until 1891. I had added Hart as a notable in ], in that was made 17 years ago. quoted there says "John Hart lived in Hopewell Township, in what is now the town of Hopewell, which was then known locally as Baptist Meeting House, for the church there."{{pb}}I don't see that this source means that he lived in Hopewell Borough and I hadn't seen anything in his article to support a connection to Hopewell Borough, so that's why I removed the category.{{pb}}I greatly respect your work on the historical aspects of the state and I may be missing something, but I don't see it. ] (]) 02:25, 5 January 2025 (UTC)</s>
**{{U|Zeete}}, after further digging, the John Hart House is in Hopewell Borough. I added that to the article for ], and to John Hart's article. Please review and see if the changes and the source make sense. ] (]) 02:54, 5 January 2025 (UTC)

Do you intend to continue reverting if I restore the cites in question? Or do you prefer to continue this discussion with more editors participating? ] (]) 16:36, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
::::{{u|Nightscream}}, if I have "removed" sources, it is because the exiting references were non-functional or did not cover the material they claimed to be sourcing. If an edit I made inadvertently removed a source, the rather simple solutions are to let me know or to reinsert the source.{{pb}}, on the other hand, if you're citing , which removed extensive sourced content, as an example of a "an ongoing discussion", there is something completely f'ed up here, as that edit was the very definition of ]. ] (]) 17:17, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

Round 1 of the competition has finished; it was a high-scoring round with 21 contestants scoring more than 100 points. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2, with 55 contestants qualifying. You will need to finish among the top thirty-two contestants in Round 2 if you are to qualify for Round 3. Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

*] ], new to the WikiCup, was in fifth place with 523 points, garnered from 15 DYKs and 34 "In the news" items.

*{{flagicon|England}} ], last year's champion, scored 332 points, from a featured article and various other sport-related topics.

I was looking at the wiki page for Franklin Township Warren County. I have a famous person, Buzzie Reutimann, who stayed in our farm when racing the Northeast. These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. In Round 1, contestants achieved eight featured articles, three featured lists and one featured picture, as well as around two hundred DYKs and twenty-seven ITNs. They completed 97 good article reviews, nearly double the 52 good articles they claimed. Contestants also claimed for 135 featured article and featured list candidate reviews. There is no longer a requirement to mention your WikiCup participation when undertaking these reviews.
*Thanks for reaching out and I'd be glad to try to help. Yes, ] is notable, as is ], but neither article mentions New Jersey in any way. On Saturday April 30, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fourth Misplaced Pages edit-a-thon — or, #guggathon — to enhance Misplaced Pages's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and to counter geocultural systemic bias on Misplaced Pages.

The Guggenheim aims to further the goals of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative, and build on the model of campaigns like the Misplaced Pages Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Women in Architecture, Misplaced Pages Asian Month, and Art+Feminism.

New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Misplaced Pages and Misplaced Pages specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support.

Can’t join us in New York? Visit our global MENA Artists Month partnership page to coordinate international and online events as well.

Time: Presentation: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm, Edit-a-thon: 2:30pm - 6:00pm
Location: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue (88th Street), New York City, New York 10128
Guests should enter using the 88th Street entrance via the ramp at 88th Street and Fifth Avenue

And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2. With 56 contestants qualifying, each group in Round 2 contains seven contestants, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for Round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining contestants.

Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • United States L293D, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with ten good articles on submarines for a total of 357 points.
  • Adam Cuerden, a WikiCup veteran, came next with 274 points, mostly from eight featured pictures, restorations of artwork.
  • Denmark MPJ-DK, a wrestling enthusiast, was in third place with 263 points, garnered from a featured list, five good articles, two DYKs and four GARs.
  • United States Usernameunique came next at 243, with a featured article and a good article, both on ancient helmets.
  • Squeamish Ossifrage was in joint fifth place with 224 points, mostly garnered from bringing the 1937 Fox vault fire to featured article status.
  • Ohio Ed! was also on 224, with an amazing number of good article reviews (56 actually).

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews on 143 good articles, one hundred more than the number of good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Well done all!

In response to your opinion on Freehold Raceway Mall "puffery"

Hi Alansohn. In case you did not receive my response on my Talk page, I'll just reinsert the message here on your talk page. If you agree that listing a few stores on a mall article would not classify as 'puffery', then why exactly did do you remove the list of stores then? If you agree that simply having a list of a few stores isn't 'puffery', then I'm glad we both have a mutual understanding. I'd imagine you would consult with me if you have any issues. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Freeholdman12 (talkcontribs) 5 June 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2023 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
  • Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
  • Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.

Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.

I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Misplaced Pages and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). John Hart in Hopewell

While editing John Hart, I noticed that he was listed as a notable person of Hopewell, New Jersey, but was not in Category:People from Hopewell, New Jersey. He lived on his farm on Hart Avenue in Hopewell from 1742 to 1779 and has a memorial at the Old School Baptist Church and Cemetery of Hopewell. Shouldn't he be in the category? Thanks, Zeete (talk) 11:16, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

  • Zeete, Hart's article places him in Hopewell Township. He died in 1779, and Hopewell Borough was not formed until 1891. I had added Hart as a notable in Hopewell, New Jersey, in this edit that was made 17 years ago. An archived copy of that source quoted there says "John Hart lived in Hopewell Township, in what is now the town of Hopewell, which was then known locally as Baptist Meeting House, for the church there."I don't see that this source means that he lived in Hopewell Borough and I hadn't seen anything in his article to support a connection to Hopewell Borough, so that's why I removed the category.I greatly respect your work on the historical aspects of the state and I may be missing something, but I don't see it.
