At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

::::It seems very irregular to me that someone who is not an admin, go ahead and close an RM skipping all the step to close it mentioned on the template page, and move the discussion back to the talk page of the project, (the opposite of what you too suggested to me to do it). This is the same user this afternoon reverted my page move, too. I think he's kind of thinking he "owns" that page. I repeat i have never ever seen anyone moving a RM to a different talk page, so pardon me if i'm mistaken on this, it's startling to see that, otherwise i think someone needs to step in and rein in the situation that is, in my view, clearly out of control.
