Hello {{BASEPAGENAME}},
== Administrators' newsletter – January 2025 ==
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
] from the past month (December 2024).
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the ], but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
<div style="display: flex; flex-wrap: wrap">
In the last 30 days, only ] have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently ] New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All {{NUMBEROFADMINS:R}} administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
<div style="flex: 1 0 20em">
] '''Administrator changes'''
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

::::It seems very irregular to me that someone who is not an admin, go ahead and close an RM skipping all the step to close it mentioned on the template page, and move the discussion back to the talk page of the project, (the opposite of what you too suggested to me to do it). This is the same user this afternoon reverted my page move, too. I think he's kind of thinking he "owns" that page. I repeat i have never ever seen anyone moving a RM to a different talk page, so pardon me if i'm mistaken on this, it's startling to see that, otherwise i think someone needs to step in and rein in the situation that is, in my view, clearly out of control. - Real-life busy-ness has been ramping all the way up recently but I will try to get to it when I have time. DanCherek (talk) 04:12, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- Understand, and it's for 26 December. Best wishes! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:22, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- Listen today to Beethoven's 3rd cello sonata, on his birthday - it was a hook in the 2020 DYK set when his 250th birthday was remembered. I picked a recording with Antônio Meneses, because he was on my sad list this year, and I was in Brazil (see places), and I love his playing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:16, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- I come to fix the cellist's name, with a 10-years-old DYK and new pics - look for red birds --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:33, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Lovely photos! DanCherek (talk) 23:36, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! - Today is a woman poet's centenary. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:27, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Today it's another great woman, soprano Sigrid Kehl, and I found a 1963 Christmas Oratorio detail. 10 years earlier than that cycle, Bach wrote seven cantatas for the 1724 season, based on seven songs, - my focus this year. Expect three stories for the three days they celebrated in Leipzig ;) - Enjoy the season! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:47, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
- My first Christmas story is about BWV 91. Good news: Michael did already the closing choralea of BWV 61 and BWV 121! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:31, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
- Merry Christmas, Gerda!! DanCherek (talk) 01:15, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, second story is up (on my talk, or below the other), very similar. Michael also did 133 and 41! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:00, 26 December 2024 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2025
News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2024).
- Following an RFC, Misplaced Pages:Notability (species) was adopted as a subject-specific notability guideline.
