As for Clyde River, there's actually one in Nova Scotia too, about an hour and a half from where I now live. And I'm quite happy about that. I tend to use the local terminology, whatever it might be. Glasgow page history, again

Hey Derek, you'll probably find this edit import I just did at the Glasgow article interesting. This edit of yours was previously the earliest one available (before my last history retrieval there), so it previously seemed like you created the page. Now the history shows that it was created by an American (from the IP address), tweaked by a Canadian (from the user page), and then you fixed it up with more local knowledge/wording (see the above diff) ... unless there are *still* edits missing, which I highly doubt! I especially notice the "River Clyde" change; that's very much UK/Ireland terminology, as you're probably well aware. You've doubtless noticed that even in Australia we'd say "Clyde River", like North American English. Graham87 14:59, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

Cheers, Graham. Good work! PaulDrye? There's a name I haven't seen for a while. ;) He arrived about a month before me and started (or contributed to) quite a few Scottish articles. As for Clyde River, there's actually one in Nova Scotia too, about an hour and a half from where I now live. And I'm quite happy about that. I tend to use the local terminology, whatever it might be.   • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Misplaced Pages until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

  • Following a motion, the Extended Confirmed Restriction has been amended, removing the allowance for non-extended-confirmed editors to post constructive comments on the "Talk:" namespace. Now, non-extended-confirmed editors may use the "Talk:" namespace solely to make edit requests related to articles within the topic area, provided that their actions are not disruptive.
  • The Arbitration Committee has announced a call for Checkusers and Oversighters, stating that it will currently be accepting applications for CheckUser and/or Oversight permissions at any point in the year.
