== „Gathering 35 machine guns“ == == „Gathering 35 machine guns“ ==

This sounds like an exaggeration. This is what Lt. Col. Taylor V. Beattie has to say about it:
This sounds like York and his men fought against a position with 35 machine guns. Of course they didn‘t. They fought against one machine gun nest, which is heroic enough. Pls read up on the topic, I find such exaggerations to be quite annoying. Here‘s his Medal of Honor citation:

„The assertion that Sergeant York captured 35 machine guns on October 8, 1918 remains unsubstantiated. There are no official military records that indicate York brought in any captured machine guns with the patrol.“ (warfarehistorynetwork.com)

== Unraveling the Myth of Sgt. Alvin York: The Other Sixteen by James Gregory ==
„After his platoon suffered heavy casualties and 3 other noncommissioned officers had become casualties, Cpl. York assumed command. Fearlessly leading seven men, he charged with great daring a machine gun nest which was pouring deadly and incessant fire upon his platoon. In this heroic feat the machine gun nest was taken, together with 4 officers and 128 men and several guns.“

Parts of this article is based largely on "myth" of Alvin York that evolved out of the War Department's intentional revision of the story to make it sound like York Acted individually in several respects when in fact there were several other men (all privates I believe) who were actively fighting with him throughout the defeat of the German stronghold. The article should be revised in light of the new and much more accurate information in James Gregory's book. This would make it far more historically accurate and fair to the other men who were initially omitted from the event. I wish that I had time to do it but I don't, but I thought the opinion should be noted in case it could be accomplished in the future. ] (]) 09:07, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

Use of Mastriano's book as a source?

There are complaints about the accuracy of Mastriano's book, including the description of the photograph on the dust jacket and thirty-five citations that are believed to be fraudulent. The work in question, Alvin York: A New Biography of the Hero of the Argonne may not be a reliable source and should probably not be cited in this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.185.158.58 (talk) 17:04, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
