Hello! I see you just went through ], adding cn tags. Actually, I'm not persuaded that citation tags on every sentence are a good thing, because the majority of the claims are unexceptionable, and ideally can easily be checked at the linked article. But I very much agree with the sentiment of wanting to clean up these articles - I put a request for comment on the project ], specifically about the notability requirements. But I would also like to start a more comprehensive cleanup. We are also currently being snowed under by a Brazilian group of IPs, or perhaps sock puppets, with (?)hundreds of trivial additions, in slightly broken English. (Latest to 15 was "The number "15" corresponds to the letter "F" in alphanumber (])." I think there should be standardised rules (as far as is reasonable) like "No telephone numbers", and any statement about ''n'' which is true for any ''m'' with the appropriate bits changed. (Masses near the bottom of 15). Hope you can help. ] (]) 11:44, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

:::When you make a 'did you know' or 'in the news' nomination that gets onto the main page you get a credit for it. Same with when you get an article to 'good article' or 'featured article' status. Why would you merge the page that was created before the new page? I didn't get it, as I was working on it and had added references. ]]] 07:23, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
I'm not sure how the outing policy applies here but ] has her real name listed on her profile. If you search for her name and the organisation in question you can discover what the COI is for yourself.
:@] I completely understand your frustration here as I've unfortunately had a similar thing happen, sorry for that. The reason I merged into the older article (] into ]) was because it contained much more content and had about 5x more edits (off memory). I'm not sure if this is in policy (if it's not, please slap me), but I've noticed smaller duplicate articles tend to be merged into bigger ones, simply because it can be difficult to merge a larger article into a smaller one.

:: I am not sure about the rules here, but I had tagged it as under construction. Additionally, it was created one hour before the new user, and it was night here, so because of that, I fell asleep. But even in that case, there should have been a proper merge discussion. But being the original and first creator, I felt like someone else had taken my credit. @{{u|primefac}} Can you help something out here?
:::{{Re|primefac}} Fair enough, let's reverse the merger and create a merge discussion. Is it alright if you do that? It's currently night where I live. —<span style="font-family:Poppins">]</span> ] 08:09, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

::::From what I can tell, there was no copy/paste page move here; two editors created an article about the same event. As indicated above, the ] had more editors and more content, so it makes sense that it would be the target of any potential merge. This happens a lot, and I can understand that it is frustrating, but there really isn't anything administratively to do. ] (]) 13:10, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

Mayhap I should instead open a post on ] and ping Pakoire given this seems to extend to several articles and not just one. ] (]) 07:07, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
::::::There are a very many articles on recent or major events that get started by multiple people within hours of said event occurring. A few years back, after one of the school shootings in the USA, I seem to recall we had ''five'' articles created in a span of a few hours, which all eventually were merged into one page. Just because someone is the first to write about something on Misplaced Pages does not mean they are the ''only'' person who gets that credit. Heck, the reverse is also true - my account has ''dozens'' of pages that I "created" as redirects that are now fully-fledged articles - no one would give me the credit for creating them, though, even if my name is the first edit on the list, because I didn't actually add any content. ] (])

:With the benefit of hindsight I now understand that you may have avoided naming her because of your concerns about outing. But maybe it would be a good idea if you could have explained what makes you think the article is non-neutral?
:Looking at her edits I see that they're mostly adding alumni, images and missing citations. In {{diff2|1084562504|one edit}} she even made the wording a lot more neutral. I suggest that you take a look at the edits before adding this template. ―<span style="font-family:Poppins, Helvetica, Sans-serif;">]</span> ] 07:32, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
::I think I will just start a discussion at COI/N the issue extends to over a dozen articles. I didn't really have time to review the articles hence why I added the templates instead of dealing with it myself. ] (]) 07:36, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
:::If you don't have time to check the edits them maybe you shouldn't add the templates. What's happening is you're causing other people to have to spend time checking the edits. And other people are low on time too. I'm going to revert your additions of the COI templates so you can re-add them if you see fit once you have more time to review Pakoire's edits.
:::Take a read of ] which says that {{tqi|Adding tags for non-obvious problems without discussion on the talk page which explains where the problems are is arguably not helpful. It can be viewed as disruptive and is often derided as "drive-by tagging" when done by editors who are not involved in the article's development. Proposed deletion of List of discontinued Guinness World Records
The article List of discontinued Guinness World Records has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Failure to meet WP:NLIST
While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Dingers5Days (talk) 16:09, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

- Good work on getting this to GA. I have two updates for you:
- You may have seen that it's now scheduled for homepage exposure as the lead hook (i.e. with the photo)
- Ron Magill wanted to be kept informed when it's due to appear, so I've emailed him; I also took the opportunity to ask whether there's further reporting on the new enclosure that he wanted to share.

- When you make a 'did you know' or 'in the news' nomination that gets onto the main page you get a credit for it. Same with when you get an article to 'good article' or 'featured article' status. There are 'barnstars' that are awarded by Wikipedians to other Wikipedians, but they're just for fun and are not some sort of formal recognition of an award. Some people are formally recognised by being given the Wikimedian of the Year award.

Proposed deletion of Figleaf (linguistics)
The article Figleaf (linguistics) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Apparent neologism. Consists of two sources by closely-related authors, who are not experts in linguistics (both philosophers). I'm skeptical that there exist enough sources for a discussion that would satisfy WP:NPOV.
While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. – Closed Limelike Curves (talk) 03:58, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
COI template
I'm not sure how the outing policy applies here but User:Pakoire has her real name listed on her profile. If you search for her name and the organisation in question you can discover what the COI is for yourself.
Mayhap I should instead open a post on WP:COI/N and ping Pakoire given this seems to extend to several articles and not just one. Traumnovelle (talk) 07:07, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oh well that makes sense. Next time could you please explain in an edit summary or something why you think the template should be added? See Template:COI which says:
Like the other neutrality-related tags, if you place this tag, you should promptly start a discussion on the article's talk page to explain what is non-neutral about the article. If you do not start a discussion, any editor will be justified in removing the tag without warning. Be careful not to violate the policy against WP:OUTING users who have not publicly self-disclosed their identities on the English Misplaced Pages.
- With the benefit of hindsight I now understand that you may have avoided naming her because of your concerns about outing. But maybe it would be a good idea if you could have explained what makes you think the article is non-neutral?
- Looking at her edits I see that they're mostly adding alumni, images and missing citations. In one edit she even made the wording a lot more neutral. I don't think there is a problem with the edits at all and she has made the article much better. I suggest that you take a look at the edits before adding this template. ―Panamitsu (talk) 07:32, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- I think I will just start a discussion at COI/N the issue extends to over a dozen articles. I didn't really have time to review the articles hence why I added the templates instead of dealing with it myself. Traumnovelle (talk) 07:36, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- If you don't have time to check the edits them maybe you shouldn't add the templates. What's happening is you're causing other people to have to spend time checking the edits. And other people are low on time too. I'm going to revert your additions of the COI templates so you can re-add them if you see fit once you have more time to review Pakoire's edits.
- Take a read of WP:TAGGING which says that
Adding tags for non-obvious problems without discussion on the talk page which explains where the problems are is arguably not helpful. It can be viewed as disruptive and is often derided as "drive-by tagging" when done by editors who are not involved in the article's development. However, it is not actually "drive-by tagging" so long as they explain the rationale for the tag on the talk page.

Pāuanui
Hi, thank you for your edit. You are correct that the name of the town Pāuanui is spelt differently depending on the website you visit. The reason for my belief that the correct spelling for the town is Pāuanui is due to the fact that the Thames-Coromandel Council uses this spelling. I have attached a link to where the Thames-Coromandel Council have spelt it this way. Thanks for your time, Thomas (Harbin Kiwi).

- Maybe you could submit a request to rename that article. I had a look a few days ago and saw the town named both with and without a macron so I was unable to decide which is used more commonly. ―Panamitsu (talk) 08:40, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
DYK for GeoNet (New Zealand)
On 10 December 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article GeoNet (New Zealand), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Aucklanders have a reputation for making false earthquake reports on New Zealand's earthquake monitoring website GeoNet? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/GeoNet (New Zealand). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, GeoNet (New Zealand)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Post nominal letters
FYI: MOS:POSTNOM says "post-nominal letters may be included in the main body of the article, but not in the lead sentence of the article." This is a relatively recent change per Misplaced Pages talk:Manual of Style/Biography/2023 archive#Proposal: Moving post-nominals from lead sentences to article bodies, and I think it has been strengthened even more recently, so probably few editors are familiar with it.-Gadfium (talk) 04:35, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Fentanyl daycare incident
The article Fentanyl daycare incident has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Fails WP:EVENT. Not shown to have lasting significance beyond routine news coverage of the incident and the federal criminal complaint/sentencing of connected people.

- Wow there seems to be a proposed deletion of Panamitsu's 2023 Misplaced Pages article creations backlog drive. ―Panamitsu (talk) 21:16, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- Noticed this in passing given our recent exchange. Can you consider improving that article. I have minor CoI due to my employment in another jurisdiction so should not do so, but have removed the deletion notice and given hints for improvement direction and the specific reason which is outside my CoI in article talk. I note 2018 Amesbury poisonings is not slated for removal despite poisoning of civilians by nerve agents developed for military purposes being known since 1995. - I've added the sentencing in 2024 but haven't bothered adding anything else because of my lack of interest in the article. ―Panamitsu (talk) 23:11, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- Ok article might die, because I am only interested for reasons that raise CoI as I have specifically directed roles in my current jurisdiction for detecting, monitoring such deaths and warning health care professionals to be aware. ChaseKiwi (talk) 00:43, 12 December 2024 (UTC)

- Because in the wiki search you can do something like 'HasTemplate:"Use American English" InSource:"programme"' and then you can correct the spelling errors. ―Panamitsu (talk) 22:22, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
