The Mirpur District is included in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on the official map of India, as released by the Survey of India following the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.
Controversy
India lodged a protest following the visit of the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, to Mirpur city. The protest was rejected by Azad Kashmir (AJK) President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, who termed India's objections "highly ridiculous" and without moral or legal justification.
