The award has been criticized for alleged favoritism towards Cristiano Ronaldo, often at the expense of other deserving footballers. It is also seen as being biased because it was founded by the agent of Cristiano Ronaldo. B<ref>{{cite web | title=Cristiano Ronaldo named 'player of the century' but award history shows MASSIVE bias | url=https://tribuna.com/en/news/2020-12-27-cristiano-ronaldo-named-player-of-the-century-but-award-history-shows-massive-bias/ | website=Tribuna | date=December 27, 2020}}</ref> |

The Globe Soccer Awards have been criticized for alleged favoritism towards Cristiano Ronaldo, often at the expense of other deserving footballers. Over the years, multiple instances have fueled claims that the awards prioritize Ronaldo’s recognition over merit-based achievements, leading to a growing perception of bias. |
One notable example occurred during the 2020 ceremony, where Ronaldo was controversially awarded the "Player of the Century" title. Critics argued that other players, such as Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, had comparable or superior contributions to the sport during the same period. This decision was widely perceived as reflecting the awards’ preference for Ronaldo’s commercial appeal rather than objective evaluation of his achievements.<ref>{{cite web | title=Cristiano Ronaldo Named Player of the Century: Bias Allegations | url=https://tribuna.com/en/news/2020-12-27-cristiano-ronaldo-named-player-of-the-century-but-award-history-shows-massive-bias/ | website=Tribuna | date=December 27, 2020}}</ref> |
Similarly, in recent years, players like Aleksandar Mitrović, who delivered standout performances in key competitions, were overlooked for recognition. Critics contend that such decisions marginalize players who do not enjoy the same level of global stardom as Ronaldo, undermining the credibility of the awards.<ref>{{cite web | title=Mitrović Overlooked Despite Stellar Performance | url=https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/aleksandar-mitrovic-overlooked-awards-bias-analysis-b1916421.html | website=The Independent}}</ref> |
Fans and analysts have also pointed out inconsistencies in award decisions, particularly in categories where Ronaldo has been repeatedly recognized despite failing to achieve significant milestones in the respective year. For instance, during years when players like Robert Lewandowski and Luka Modrić achieved historic feats, Ronaldo’s victories were viewed as undeserved and indicative of systemic favoritism.<ref>{{cite web | title=Lewandowski’s Historic Season Overshadowed | url=https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/50862417 | website=BBC Sport}}</ref> |
These controversies have led to a broader debate within the football community regarding the objectivity and fairness of the Globe Soccer Awards. While the organizers claim that the awards celebrate excellence, critics argue that the favoritism towards Ronaldo diminishes the achievements of other players and erodes the awards' legitimacy.<ref>{{cite web | title=The Debate Over Globe Soccer Awards Credibility | url=https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/dec/25/globe-soccer-awards-controversies | website=The Guardian | date=December 25, 2023}}</ref> |

The annual ceremony of the event is attended by international football players, coaches, and celebrities.
Founded in 2010 by Tommaso Bendoni, and co-owned by Ricardo Silva, the first edition of the Globe Soccer Awards started with three categories, expanding to six in 2011 and ten by 2012. Over the years, the number of awards and categories has increased, mirroring the growth and diversification of global football. The focus on women's football at the Globe Soccer Awards has also increased with specific categories introduced for achievements in women's football.
The award has been criticized for alleged favoritism towards Cristiano Ronaldo, often at the expense of other deserving footballers. It is also seen as being biased because it was founded by the agent of Cristiano Ronaldo. B
At the 2012 Globe Soccer Awards ceremony, the organisation decided to award a special award to recognise the best Player of the 20th Century.
Similarly, at the Globe Soccer 2020 Awards ceremony, the organization decided to simultaneously award a series of special awards known as the 21st Century Awards, which seek to recognize the most important figures in football from 2001–2020. The award ceremony was attended by different personalities linked to the world of football, which highlights the president of FIFA Gianni Infantino who had delivered a speech at the conference.
