My pseudonym is arbitrary: it is ] for "nothingthree" and does not imply anything whatsoever. I edit a wide variety of articles, usually ranging among things in which I am interested or have an involvement with. ==About me==

I am a science student living in ], on the ]. As I am a student, it's possible to estimate my age, however I would discourage people from guessing my age because older contributors have an unfortunate tendency to look down on the younger ones, stereotyping them as shallow, inexperienced, or immature. This has been a factor in requests for adminship, a status to which I would aspire. I prefer to imagine that I can be ageless on Misplaced Pages, being judged on the quality of my contributions and the cogency of arguments which I put forth.

It should generally be assumed that people are inherently biased - as such, I reason that it would be appropriate to disclose these biases on my userpage. In terms of political standpoint, I tend to be reasonably liberal - according to the , I scored as -4.92 on an economic scale of left versus right, and -5.25 on a social scale of libertarianism versus authoritarianism. In terms of spirituality, I am ''nominally'' a Protestant, though I abandoned those beliefs a number of years ago and now prefer the idea of ]-flavored transcendental pluralism. I therefore follow ] and some other tenets of Buddhism, but am otherwise agnostic. In terms of "transcendental pluralism", I mean it that I hold one's beliefs to be generally ] true for oneself. Aside from this pluralism, I dislike dogma in general, especially those which can be categorized as pseudoscience, although I acknowledge that any argument involving an omnipotent being is necessarily inductive in nature.

On other websites, although I usually use my unique username '''Nihiltres''', I prefer when available the username '''Shade'''. This may stem from certain media to which I have been exposed and enjoyed, for example '']'' or '']''. I'm generally an unusual individual, although that seems to be not entirely a bad thing. For example, among my favourite flavours I count ]; ], ] and other citrus; and dark or ] ]; among other foods noted for bitterness or sourness, although I must also reveal a healthy ].

In terms of my grammatical preferences, I have reasonably conformist views:
*I do not use ] in formal writing, although I find the use of they as a singular neuter pronoun for a person useful.
*I find split infinitives to be something to be avoided in formal writing, although occasionally they must be used to avoid ambiguity, and allowing their use in casual or otherwise nonessential writing greatly simplifies the process.
*The passive voice is acceptable, but the active voice is usually preferable.
*I absolutely will not allow a sentence to end in a preposition in formal writing, although it is awkward to force sentences in casual writing into forms which do not end in such a way.
*I generally use the vernacular as opposed to politically correct alternatives - I see no problem with the vernacular.
*"]", in my view, should be used in the object case whenever applicable, even to a certain extent in casual speech, although there the omission of the final "m" is forgivable.
*The ] is almost always preferable, except under some unusual circumstances where it may cause ambiguity.

I'm Nihiltres (/nɪˈhɪlˌtɹɛs/; ni-HIL-tres), a Misplaced Pages editor since April 2005 and administrator since May 2007. My pseudonym is arbitrary: it is Latin for "nothingthree" (nihil → "nothing", tres → "three") and does not imply anything whatsoever. I'm originally from Pointe-Claire, Quebec, on the island of Montreal in Canada, but I currently live in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, D.C. in the United States.
