==O-Z history== | |||
If you doubt the historic demographics of Ozone Park, I suggest you go to the Richmond Hill Historical Society, Woodhaven Historical and Cultural Society, or anywhere else with credible documentation. How about the US Census? Or take a walk in some of the older cemeteries with graves pre-dating 1900? If you have any credible evidence that the area was settled first by Italian immigrants, cite it. Otherwise, it is "rediculous" to insist otherwise. ] 20:11, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
"If you doubt the historic demographics of Ozone Park, I suggest you cite your sources. Goodfellajohnny 23:28, 28 June 2007 (UTC)"
How about this: How about if something isn't cited, it gets left out? That is the accepted procedure anyway, right? See: ]. ] 13:14, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
"I know the rules are to cite everything, but I figured I would add what I know and what I've been taught, seeing as I'm from the neighborhood and have been told the history by other families. ] 12:28, 2 July 2007 (UTC)"
I suggest you don't assume you are the only one editing the O-Z article who is "from the neighborhood". The citation system is not there just to add a layer of formality or bureacracy, but to cut down on the level of biased ] entries that are made. There is no doubt that verbal histories and other 'teaching' may present history or anything else from a certain perspective, and it may not be intentionally contrary to the facts or purposly wrong. However, if a valid, reputable source can support something and be used as a ciation, this kind of drifting from the facts is usually limited. Otherwise, it is just one person's opinion, or even just myth.
Again, expecially if you are "in the neighborhood", I strongly suggest to get in touch with the historical societies mentioned earlier (unfortunately, O-Z does not have one specifically for itself, as far as I know). They can provide you with a lot of documantation of the earliest settlements of the area, and more. I would limit any further contributions that are based jsut on stories and third-party accounts. ] 19:57, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
