It was brought to my attention today that the article on me, Gay Hendricks, has a headline that says "Homosexual Hendricks". While my first name is Gay, I'm quite heterosexual and do not want to give hope to your homosexual readership or dash the hopes of your heterosexual ones. Needless to say, this headline also concerns my wife of 26 years.
How do I/you fix the headline?

== Duplicating Information Already Available on Another Website ==

I am trying to edit pages on my Samsung S22 but opening the keyboard will forcefully recenter the screen every couple seconds, making it impossible to see what I'm typing. Sometimes it closes the keyboard entirely.
A few days ago I was editing the Misplaced Pages article on "PFIQ", tuning it up by reference to my collection of that publication.

I have since discovered that there is a webpage by the former proprietor of PFIQ, Jim Ward, at

This problem persists even if I use the "desktop site" option in mobile. I'm using Firefox.

It seems to me that there is no point putting information on the Misplaced Pages that can be easily accessed via a link to an external site. However, I cannot find any clear statment one way or the other on this point.

:@], Using Chrome on Android and been through that, but now i am the boss (''feeling so''). Basically i avoid that by going top again. == Category history ==
Is there a standing policy on such situations? Should I cut the[REDACTED] article on PFIQ down so it complements the webpage urled above, or should I leave the redundant information in place.

If you add a category to your watchlist, it notifies you when pages are added to or removed from that category. The category history (View History tab) does not show this information, however, as it only includes changes to the category page itself. How would I see the history of additions/removals for any category (regardless of whether it is on my watchlist)? Is it available? If a category suddenly got bigger or smaller, it would be useful to see which pages had been added or removed. --] (]) 17:30, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

PS: It's me again. There's another specific case with that presents the same type of problem. I subscribe to the Pacific Bulb Society mailing list; the PBS also operates a wiki devoted to bulbs. Generally speaking, the PBS wiki is exhaustive, so for most Misplaced Pages articles on cultivated bulbous plants, hardly anything more is needed than a link to the PBS wiki. I guess the issue is that (to my mind at least) the Misplaced Pages shouldn't waste time & resources duplicating information readily accessible elsewhere, but what's the actual policy (if there is one!)?

:Is there another, more stable source (there are usually those that hold images of film posters)? Generally, this would go to ] or ]. :Actually, according to ], Misplaced Pages consists ''precisely'' of (and only of) information that has already been published elsewhere in reliable sources. Misplaced Pages does not (should not) contain ]. Everything in an encyclopedia should merely summarize and restate what is already available elsewhere. The point of an encyclopedia is to have information available on a wide range of topics in a ], not to provide new findings, or information available nowhere else. Thus if a Misplaced Pages article appears to be a restatement of information you find elsewhere, that's exactly what we want. (I like the standard format of Misplaced Pages articles; almost every time I look up a topic that is unfamiliar to me, I find the Misplaced Pages article to be a better introduction than I can easily find from a general search of the Web. Many Web pages that are about some subject tend to pick up mid-conversation, as if the reader already knows what is going on, whereas most Misplaced Pages articles start off with a coherent ] that lets the reader grasp the basics of the subject quickly.) For the question about external links, see ]. Also have a look at the ] which has links to policy and guideline pages covering almost every conceivable issue that comes up in the building of our encyclopedia. On the issue of duplicating everything on a specialized ]: we probably wouldn't do that, because Misplaced Pages requires topics to be ], whereas a specialized wiki would probably tend toward comprehensiveness within its topic area. So, for example, a wiki specializing in music might cover a wider range of musical topics (such as very obscure musicians) than Misplaced Pages would. --] 06:48, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

:NFCC 10c in a nutshell is: "You must write separate fair use rationales for each article the image is used in". ::But what is the point if they are basically the same rationale? Also, for this particular image, it is only being used in a single article. -] 03:14, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
:The warnings you are getting are from ], which requires a very specific set of conditions in the fair-use rationale - basically, it has to appear in a section that includes a link to the article it's used in (this is, roughly speaking, so that you don't write the rationale for ] only to have the image removed from ] and added to ], where the rationale may be different). I think making the section header read "Fair Use in (link to article title)" will get BCB off your back, or, failing that, make the first line read "It is claimed that this image is fair use in (link to article title) because:". ] 06:00, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Translation: Editing an image I created for the Portuguese Misplaced Pages on the English Misplaced Pages

I created and edited on the ] (Pythagorean Triad) page of the Portuguese Language Misplaced Pages a geometric image of my own for the understanding of my edition "Deduction of the algebraic equations of the Pythagorean trio from geometry". I need to upload this image for editing on the Pythagorean Triple page of the English Misplaced Pages, and I have tried in several ways and have not been able to, for this reason I have not been able to edit it. Dear Misplaced Pages Support,
== Two questions ==

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to seek assistance regarding an issue with my Misplaced Pages account, '''Brennan2013'''.
Hi. First, I was wondering where I should go to see how I can get involved in fighting vandalism. Second, is there a section that shows me how to customize my userpage. Thanks.--] 19:20, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

::Thanks.--] 19:27, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

The issue began after my edits to the articles ''Jonathan the Tortoise'' and other elderly tortoises were reverted by another user. Soon after, I noticed that my contributions page became restricted, displaying the message:
== Bambi Bucket Copyright Issues ==

'''"Suggested edits is disabled. Sorry Brennan2013, too many of your recent contributions have been reverted."'''
Please be advised that A-Flex, a new manufacturer of collapsible firefighting buckets, has made repeated attempts to post information on the Misplaced Pages page entitled "Bambi Bucket." The name Bambi Bucket is both trademarked and copyrighted and these buckets have been in use for more than 20 years in 80 countries.

For context:
Please note that Bambi Bucket is NOT a generic term. It is widely known since it is the leader in firefighting equipment but that does not make it a generic term and, as such, the name cannot be used in this manner.

* I initially downloaded and installed the Misplaced Pages mobile app through the Google Play Store in late December 2024. Since then, I’ve primarily used my Android Onn. Tablet to read and edit articles on Misplaced Pages.
Despite repeated removals of A-Flex's information and a warning letter that legal action is pending, someone continues to repost this information.

* After encountering this restriction, I uninstalled the app in frustration.
A good solution would be for Misplaced Pages to change the heading from "Bambi Bucket" to "Collapsible Firefighting Buckets." Then a separate page for each company could be created. Those who are looking for information on the Bambi Bucket can then access that page separately.

* Today (Thursday, January 23, 2025), I reinstalled the app through the Google Play Store and logged into my account, only to find that the issue persists.
Please advise of this action being taken.

Editing Misplaced Pages has always been an enjoyable and educational experience for me. I strive to make meaningful contributions and was disappointed to see that my access to the contributions page and suggested edits remains restricted. I am unsure whether this limitation is still active due to the reverted edits or if uninstalling and reinstalling the app has affected my account.

== "Euler's formula", editing ==

I'd like to expand a bit on the basic description of Euler's formula in the Preview section.

Here's my proposed addition: "The formula becomes especially elegant when x = π. The formula then becomes <math>e^{iπ} = \cos(π) + i\sin(π) \!</math>
. Since the sine of pi = 0 and the cosine of pi = -1, the result of this substitution is that e (with the exponent i * pi) = -1 + 0. Adding 1 to each side of the equation yields: e + 1 = 0, an elegant equation which includes the five most foundational numbers in mathematics."

No matter how I substitute π for x in the formula, I receive error messages. They state "Failed to parse (lexing error): e^{iπ} = \cos(π) + i\sin(π) \!" or refer to lexing errors.

I've tried several variations on this idea, with none being successful. How should I continue?

== Proposal: allow longer edit summaries ==

Hi. In the past few weeks, I've had the problem that edit summaries weren't allowed to be long enough. When I revert, I often have to add an explanation to add to the revert message already there. Could someone consider allowing longer edit summaries? The revert summaries are already quite long, and when I add my own summary, it often gets cut off. In fact, there have been about a dozen times when I added more text to the popups revert summary, only to find that it had been cut off when I don't know at which point in the summary it would be cut off. This is beginning to be a big problem, so I suggest making allowed edit summaries twice the space of the current one. Please, I can't go to the reverted editor's talkpage every single time to explain the reason for my revert. Just look at my past few edits, you will see times when my summaries got cut off, or I knew when it would be cut off and had to finish the summary early. If this is not the right place to post this, please notify me on my talkpage where I should post it. I don't know if it's admins or crats or devs that actually controll this stuff, so please notify me on what we could do. Thanks. ~<font color="blue">]]]</font>(]]]) 21:13, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
:If the vote of a newbie means anything, I'd like to second this proposal. There are just times when you need to explain in semi-detail why an edit or revert was made, and the system doesn't give us enough room to do so. ] 21:22, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

== WIkipedia/Google search problems ==

I'm trying to get a list of all the Misplaced Pages categories with "Software" in their name, so I ran the google search

intitle:Category intitle:software site:en.wikipedia.org

That search returns about 690 items. However I noticed that the category "Business software" was not included. I had used edit/select all/copy/paste into notebook/ to capture the Google search results, then sorted that notebook created file. And I've done it several times; "Business software" never shows up. However, just make it more curious, if after the Google search you use Googles "search within results" facility to search for "Business" -it's there!

The problem is not that "Business software" was missing, the problem is that anything was missing. "Business software" is only an example; "Accounting software" is also missing on my last attempt.

Why would anyone care about this? Please take a look at my "Contributions" log, I'm engaged in some obsessive/compulsive updating of the computing and software categories.

So what's going on between Misplaced Pages and Google searches?

Reference number 191 is in red - I have got it all wrong and I get confused. Please repair the damage. I am sorry Srbernadette (talk) 06:29, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

Srbernadette Fixed, you had written the year in the access date as "20025". Respectfully, you make this specific error quite often; you probably just hit the zero twice by accident. When this happens the red message says "check date values in accces-date", to identify where exactly the issue is. 331dot (talk) 07:08, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
On the phenomenon of the frequent occurrence of specific kinds of error, Srbernadette: On 12 October, Tenryuu suggested to you that "you should consider writing down what other editors have been saying so that you have a 'common mistakes made' note that you can reference to the side of whatever device you're using." If you didn't implement that then, perhaps you could implement it now. -- Hoary (talk) 11:09, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

    Whitespace on top of page

The page Vishwaroopam controversies displays a line of whitespace on top of the article. Why is that there, and how can it be removed? Truthnope (talk) 08:16, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

phone keyboard constantly recentering the screen

I am trying to edit pages on my Samsung S22 but opening the keyboard will forcefully recenter the screen every couple seconds, making it impossible to see what I'm typing. Sometimes it closes the keyboard entirely.

This problem persists even if I use the "desktop site" option in mobile. I'm using Firefox.

Any solutions? Scuttlebug Jam (talk) 12:17, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

Not had this issue on my A15 (Chrome). Odd. Could you switch to Gboard? JayCubby 14:41, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
I have the same problem with Firefox while using other websites. I think it's Firefox's issue. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 15:19, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
@Scuttlebug Jam, Using Chrome on Android and been through that, but now i am the boss (feeling so). Basically i avoid that by going top again. Ok, simply whenever i enter something, that text hide itself and next line appear at top most screen, at that moment i just scroll to top of the screen (top of the section) and then again scroll to that particular line, and guess what - no issue. try once.––kemel49 17:01, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

    Category history

If you add a category to your watchlist, it notifies you when pages are added to or removed from that category. The category history (View History tab) does not show this information, however, as it only includes changes to the category page itself. How would I see the history of additions/removals for any category (regardless of whether it is on my watchlist)? Is it available? If a category suddenly got bigger or smaller, it would be useful to see which pages had been added or removed. --Jameboy (talk) 17:30, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

    Image

While visiting the page This Must Be the Place (film), I noticed this image: . The source says "Facebook" but the link is not accessible: . The image caption states: "Teaser poster of This Must Be the Place"; but a reverse Google Image brings up Pinterest Paper Cuts of similar sayings: . I'm not sure how to put up an image for deletion; but I think this is not what it purports to be. Maineartists (talk) 23:24, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

Is there another, more stable source (there are usually those that hold images of film posters)? Generally, this would go to Files for discussion or Deletion requests on Commons. But preferably look for one that is fair use. 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 23:38, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
OK. Thanks. Taking it to Deletion requests on Commons. This is not a poster for the film ("early" or otherwise). Obviously this was a hoax of some sorts. Maineartists (talk) 00:00, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

This was much harder than I expected. WP does not make it easy to simply place an image up for requested deletion! Yeesh! I placed the required template on the image page here: , but from there on it's just a big mess. As instructed: and then listed: ; but it does not seem to be correct. I have successfully placed several articles up for AfD but this one threw me. What did I do wrong? TIA. Maineartists (talk) 00:36, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

@Maineartists: The file is uploaded at the English Misplaced Pages (because it's non-free) and not Commons so a deletion discussion should be here and not at Commons. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:51, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Maineartists, I suggest that you reverse your edits so far and follow the process at Misplaced Pages:Files for discussion. TSventon (talk) 01:06, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Already done. I was only following the advice / directions given above. Guess I should have gone to FfD first. Thank you, TSventon for linking the process. I had no idea what "so a deletion discussion should be here" meant. Heading there now. This was a first for me. Now I know. Maineartists (talk) 01:13, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@Maineartists: it's confusing if you are not a copyright expert (neither am I). You are more likely to get specialist advice at Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. TSventon (talk) 01:23, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Thanks. This one had nothing to do with copyright. The image was not what it purported it to be: . The uploader has a history of uploading questionable images to WP with numerous deletions and violations in their history; without any response on their Talk Page to notifications. The image in question has been removed from the article and successfully placed for FfD. Thanks again. Maineartists (talk) 01:31, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
The nomination looks fine. Media Copyright Questions is a place for help with image copyrights, tagging, non-free content, and related questions so I think this query would have been in scope. TSventon (talk) 01:55, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Default alt text for image not appearing in article

As you can see I added alt text to the structured data of https://commons.wikimedia.org/File:Greenhouse_gas_emission_and_absorption_by_Turkey.svg

But when I use https://www.w3.org/WAI/test-evaluate/easy-checks/image-alt/ to check

    https://en.wikipedia.org/Greenhouse_gas_emissions_by_Turkey#Monitoring,_reporting_and_verification

    I cannot see it.

This is the first time I tried to use default alt text so perhaps I have missed something? Chidgk1 (talk) 06:40, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

I don't think you can add alt text to the image itself (i.e., on commons). Alt text is used in an article when you add the image. Otherwise all the different Wikipedias would be stuck with the same wording and language for the alt text. Meters (talk) 07:27, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
    See MOS:ALT Meters (talk) 07:29, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Also see meta:Community Wishlist Survey 2021/Reading/Alt-Texts and Image Descriptions. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:44, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@Meters Thanks for those links but I am still confused. I already have added English alt text to the image itself (i.e., on commons) - that is not a problem and as it is labelled as "English" I presume other language Wikipedias will not use it but could also add text in their own languages. You can see it on the image link above by clicking "structured data" and scrolling to the bottom of the structured data. My problem is that the text is not appearing when I use the image on Misplaced Pages. Chidgk1 (talk) 14:23, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@Chidgk1: The image used in Greenhouse_gas_emissions_by_Turkey#Monitoring,_reporting_and_verification is kept on this English wiki at Greenhouse_gas_emissions_by_Turkey#/media/File:Greenhouse_gas_emission_and_absorption_by_Turkey.svg, not on Commons.
Regardless of where it is kept, the image in the article will only have alt text if an alt= has been included in its file statement. For the article concerned, there is no alt= parameter:
] can take out. There is some correlation with the ], such as a dip during the ].]]
You need to add an alt= parameter. You can refer to MOS:IMAGESYNTAX for an example.
The above will apply regardless of where the image is kept.
Note that the alt text should describe what the image is, not the graph's contents. So, for example, "A graph showing the levels of greenhouse gas emissions and absorptions in Turkey from 1990 to 2022.". If the data shown by the graphs in the article is important to the article's readers, then separate tables of the data ought to be included the article, as stipulated by MOS:TEXTASIMAGES. Bazza 7 (talk) 14:47, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Thanks I understand how to set the alt text manually for each article. But the reason I would like this default is because I quite often use the same image in different articles so it would save me (and hopefully other people) cutting and pasting alt text.
The default alt text I used was set up by https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T166094 which is now closed.
Whereas the request for default alt text at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T21906 is still open.
But I don’t understand the difference. Can anyone explain in simple terms? Chidgk1 (talk) 16:32, 23 January 2025 (UTC)

i want to post my content in draft

I am planning to edit my Misplaced Pages content based on the guidelines, but I am unsure how to move it to the draft space. Julynoeh (talk) 07:05, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

It can simply be moved to the draft space by any autoconfirmed user, which you are. See WP:MOVE, but if you mean your content in User:Julynoeh/sandbox, there's little point moving it to Draft. That draft has already been rejected by User:Rusalkii, not just declined, and a rejected draft usually should not be resubmitted. See WP:AFCREVIEW Meters (talk) 07:21, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@Julynoeh As you must know, since you Wikilinked it, there is an existing article at Over-the-air update. If you have any content from your draft that is reliably sourced and relevant, you could add it to that article. Use your own words to paraphrase the sources you cite, not chatbots. Inter-language Links in Coding for the German and French Misplaced Pages Severs.

I know how to write an inter-language link to produce a broken link in an English article to a page that does not exist on the English server, but does exist in a foreign language Misplaced Pages server:
    French:{{ill|Conann|lt=Conann|fr|Conann (film)}}, i.e. Conann
    German:{{ill|Conann|lt=Meeples' Choice Award|de|Meeples' Choice Award}}, i.e. Meeples' Choice Award
However, I would like to know the reciprocal German and French coding to do the same thing, i.e. link to a Misplaced Pages article that does not exist on that respective language Misplaced Pages server, i.e. the French or German server, but does exist in the English server:
    French: ?
    German: ?
Does anyone know if such coding exists and whether there are help pages on the French and German server for this coding? SMargan (talk) 08:55, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

@SMargan: you can check the Wikidata item d:Q13606208. fr:Modèle:Lien exists, but no de equivalent. You could ask at de:Misplaced Pages:Fragen zur Misplaced Pages whether they have anything similar. TSventon (talk) 09:17, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@SMargan: Each Misplaced Pages language makes its own policies. The German Misplaced Pages has decided to not allow such links in articles. See de:Hilfe:Internationalisierung#Im Text sichtbare Interwiki-Links. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:17, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@TSventon: TSventon (talk) Thanks for the clarification! You have been a great help. I found this coding on the German server {{#interlanguagelink:en|Friedrich Schiller}}, however, it just seemed to produce no text at all. Now that you have told me that there is no comparative German coding, I will stop looking. SMargan (talk) 11:41, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@TSventon: TSventon (talk) Sorry to bother you again, but is there a Inter-language Link coding for the Spanish language server as well? SMargan (talk) 11:41, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Hi, @SMargan. The Wikidata item d:Q13606208 (which TSventon linked to) has an es-wiki link to es:Plantilla:Enlace interlingüístico. Whether or not it has the same functionality as {{ill}} I don't know. ColinFine (talk) 11:54, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
If you add {{#interlanguagelink:en|Friedrich Schiller}} it is the same as ] and changes the en link under In anderen Sprachen to en:Friedrich Schiller. If you were allowed to link the article you would add a colon ]. TSventon (talk) 12:00, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@TSventon: TSventon (talk) - Thanks once again for your assistance! You have been a great help! SMargan (talk) 13:14, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Request for Guidance on Article Review

    Hello Team,

I have been submitting the article for review for the past three days, but it is still showing as a draft, with no violations indicated on the talk page. Following Misplaced Pages guidelines, I disclosed that this is a paid contribution and added the following statement to my user page:

"This user, in accordance with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, discloses that they have been paid by ZAPTA Technologies on behalf of Nasir Ali for their contributions to Misplaced Pages."

I have published this article without any charges. Could you please advise on the next steps?

    Best regards,

    Mohsin Ali (Taching1989) Taching1989 (talk) 09:51, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

@Taching1989 I have added the template which will allow you to submit the draft for review. Before you do, find a better source for citation #1. You use Crunchbase, which is deprecated (see the link). Are you sure your draft shows how the company meets our notability criteria for companies? Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:48, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for guidance, should I remove Crunchbase link? Taching1989 (talk) 11:53, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Hello, @Taching1989. Without looking at the draft, I would reply Yes, you should remove the Crunchbase link, and any information which is cited only to that link (unless you can find a better source for that information). ColinFine (talk) 11:55, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Yes, I removed it. I am looking for more guidance to publish my article. Taching1989 (talk) 11:56, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
I have removed the link and submitted it for review. Kindly check if everything is completed. Taching1989 (talk) 12:01, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Editing an image I created for the Portuguese Misplaced Pages on the English Misplaced Pages

Eu preciso fazer upload desta imagem para a edição na pagina Pythagorean Triple da Wikipédia de língua Inglesa, e tentei de varias formas e não consegui, por esse motivo não consegui minha edição. Translation: Editing an image I created for the Portuguese Misplaced Pages on the English Misplaced Pages

I created and edited on the pt:Terno pitagórico (Pythagorean Triad) page of the Portuguese Language Misplaced Pages a geometric image of my own for the understanding of my edition "Deduction of the algebraic equations of the Pythagorean trio from geometry". I need to upload this image for editing on the Pythagorean Triple page of the English Misplaced Pages, and I have tried in several ways and have not been able to, for this reason I have not been able to edit it. When I uploaded the image in the Portuguese edition I put it as a free image for use. I'm waiting for guidance so I can upload the image and get my edit on the English Misplaced Pages. (via Google translate) TSventon (talk) 12:06, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

@Gonzagalaier Please use English when posing a question here. The file you wish to use appears to be File:Deduction pythagorean triple equations by geometry.png, which is on Commons and can therefore be incorporated into articles on en:Misplaced Pages as explained at Help:Pictures. However, I suspect that its use will be controversial, so you should probably discuss this on the article's Talk Page at Talk:Pythagorean triple. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:16, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

The edit summary at Aye Ishq-e-Junoon was NEWSORGINDIA and other unreliable sources. Redirecting as an alternative to deletion but will take to AfD should there be an objection. Basically, the opinion was that this was not a notable topic. You can either revert the redirection and add sources (but make sure they are reliable), or do nothing.
Be aware if the sourcing still doesn't meet GNG it'll likely go through AfD. Lee Vilenski 13:02, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

@Clp69 You can revert the contributions you have made but they will not be deleted from the edit history of any article and may be restored by other editors. When you add any content to Misplaced Pages, you irrevocably license it CC BY SA 4.0, as it says when you publish/save any edit. Mike Turnbull (talk) 18:14, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

If you can explain why a particular contribution is not correct or inappropriate, please do so on the article's talk page, citing any relevant sources, and the material will be deleted. Creating an article

Dear Misplaced Pages: I'm the librarian for Waterford High School (CT). The Athletic Director put together a history of the athletics program from when the school opened in 1956 to the present day. I foolishly (bravely?) suggested I would make a Misplaced Pages page out of the information and link it to the school's page. And now, of course, I have no idea what I am doing. Is there a primer that could walk me through the process? Should I find a copy of Misplaced Pages for Dummies? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Matt Cadorette, Librarian, Waterford High School Waterford, CT Mcadorette (talk) 18:22, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Hello, @Mcadorette, and welcome to the Teahouse.
In addition to the good advice given by 2601, My earnest advice to new editors is to not even think about trying to create an article until you have spent several weeks - at least - learning about how Misplaced Pages works by making improvements to existing articles. Once you have understood core policies such as verifiability, neutral point of view, reliable, independent sources, and notability, and experienced how we handle disagreements with other editors (the Bold, Revert, Discuss cycle), then you might be ready to read your first article carefully, and try creating a draft. ColinFine (talk) 21:53, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

A Wizard is available to walk you through these steps. See the Article Wizard.

    Thank you.
Before creating an article, please search Misplaced Pages first to make sure that an article does not already exist on the subject. Please also review a few of our relevant policies and guidelines with which all articles should comply. As Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia, articles must not contain original research, must be written from a neutral point of view, should cite reliable sources which verify their content and must not contain unsourced, negative content about living people.
Articles must also demonstrate the notability of the subject. Please see our subject specific guidelines for people, bands and musicians, companies and organizations and web content and note that if you are closely associated with the subject, our conflict of interest guideline strongly recommends against you creating the article.
If you still think an article is appropriate, see Misplaced Pages:Your first article. You might also look at Misplaced Pages:How to write a great article for guidance, and please consider taking a tour through the Misplaced Pages:Tutorial so that you know how to properly format the article before creation. An Article Wizard is also available to walk you through creating an article. 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 18:25, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

I was going to post at Category talk:Mass murderers, but there was a note recommending I post here instead. The Category:Mass murderers doesn't seem to have a clear inclusion criteria. Is it all individuals who have killed 3 or more people without a cooling off period? Do they need to have been convicted in court for murder? Is it mainly for mass shooting/mass stabbing, or do bombings count? Do they need to have committed the act themselves, or can they be included if they ordered or masterminded the killings? Amending existing edit request or making an additional one?

If I have a pending edit request on an extended-confirmed-protected page, and I have an additional edit to request, should I edit the talk page to add it to the existing edit request, or initiate a new edit request? Kenfree (talk) 20:56, 23 January 2025 (UTC)

If the new edit request is unrelated to the initial one I might make it a second request to avoid mixed responses (Yes to the first, No to the second). If it's related and nobody's responded to the initial request yet, I'd likely amend it. Hope this helps! DonIago (talk) 21:02, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
If you do edit your initial request, you should probably note that somewhere to avoid confusion from anyone who may have read the initial request. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 22:08, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
Kenfree, from the pragmatic point of view, it is pretty clear to me, based on over 15 years of experience, that a simple, concise, well-referenced edit request has a far better chance of being implemented by a volunteer editor than an edit request that has been modified, expanded and now deals with several issues instead of one. Almost any interested volunteer prefers to deal with such requests in "bite sized chunks". Cullen328 (talk) 06:28, 24 January 2025 (UTC)

Issue With "Edits" Page Following A Limitation and Uninstallment of Misplaced Pages

    Dear Misplaced Pages Support,

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to seek assistance regarding an issue with my Misplaced Pages account, Brennan2013.

The issue began after my edits to the articles Jonathan the Tortoise and other elderly tortoises were reverted by another user. Soon after, I noticed that my contributions page became restricted, displaying the message:

"Suggested edits is disabled. Sorry Brennan2013, too many of your recent contributions have been reverted."

    For context:

    • I initially downloaded and installed the Misplaced Pages mobile app through the Google Play Store in late December 2024. Since then, I’ve primarily used my Android Onn. Tablet to read and edit articles on Misplaced Pages.
    • After encountering this restriction, I uninstalled the app in frustration.
    • Today (Thursday, January 23, 2025), I reinstalled the app through the Google Play Store and logged into my account, only to find that the issue persists.

Could you please provide more information about the current status of my account? Is the restriction temporary, or do additional steps need to be taken to restore full access?

Either way, I will continue to enjoy reading and editing on Misplaced Pages, as it remains one of my favorite platforms. Thank you for the incredible resource that Misplaced Pages provides and for all the work you do to maintain it.

I greatly appreciate your time and support, and I look forward to your response.

    Sincerely,

@Brennan2013:, suggested edits is part of Misplaced Pages:Growth Team features. If you don't get a detailed answer here, you could ask at the talk page there. A couple of sentences quoting the message you got should be sufficient, I don't think deinstalling the app is relevant.
It is a well known issue that new users often don't know much about how Misplaced Pages works, so they often make mistakes when they start editing. TSventon (talk) 01:10, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
@Brennan2013, we expect new users to make mistakes but we also expect new users to learn from those mistakes. Since editors get a notification whenever an edit is reverted, you can look at what happened and not continue to do the same thing. I notice you are using the Android app to edit. There are some limitations to the interface if you edit with an app rather than with a browser. Did you get a notification every time one of your edits was reverted? That may be the problem. Brennan2013, I have made close to 100,000 edits to Misplaced Pages on Android smartphones going back many years. Other than occasionally for test purposes, I never use any Misplaced Pages app or the Misplaced Pages mobile site or the visual editor. That is because I prefer a fully functional editing interface. So, I use the good old fashioned "desktop" site which works perfectly on 2025 Android phones despite its overly narrow name, and I avoid the visual editor and work in Wikicode, which is very easy to learn. Just take a look at WP:CHEATSHEET which shows how much useful formatting anyone can do without a college level course and with ten or fifteen minutes of reading. @Brennan2013 A quick look at Jonathan the Tortoise, as an example, shows that you removed a perfectly good age template but marked the edit as "Fixed grammar", and you later added unsourced information to the article. All substantive information in any article should be based on a reliable source. Shantavira| 09:58, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
