Your Korean talk "syllable" is questionable...I think either {{Unicode|탁}} or {{Unicode|톡}} would be better or maybe even {{Unicode|돡}} to better approximate {{IPA|/ɔ/}}, although I'd probably go for {{Unicode|돢}} myself, in a feeble attempt to better approximate an unreleased final /k/. :-p -t

Why did you merge that (admittedly stupid) list of podcasts back into the ] page? If you'll check the Talk, you'll see it was pulled out of that article fairly recently because it was swamping the main article. Please don't make big changes like that without discussing it on talk - I plan to pull it back out into a separate article again. Hello Mahagaja, and happy new year. I might have given you a heart attack with the title, but it's not about you :)

Yet again have I been blocked by the same admin (Fenakhay) who is ''extremely'' possessive on Arabic and Maltese entries. All I did was - I invite you to judge whether it is vandalism.
Hello Angr, I looked at the Gramadach Lexicon (Online) but couldn't find the Irish spelling, but I'm no longer disputing it. Thanks for your input. ] 22:50, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

My 2600+ voluntary edits have been awarded with being blocked for 1 year, cannot edit my talk page, cannot email anyone. I've only had negative interactions with this admin, who has a long record of unsubstantiated reverts and other tyranny - which is why I guess he needs to constantly delete his talk page which is clogged with complaints. (Use Internet archive if you wish)
I don't know where this discussion started, so I've no context. The suffix -án can be added to most (masculine?) nouns and forms a diminutive. The vowel was long in Old Ir. In the southern half of Ireland this long vowel attracted the stress accent and so remained long. Elsewhere, i.e. Northern half of Ireland, Mann and Scotland the stress stayed on the first syllable and the vowel in the suffix was shortened but NOT obscured. So Scots Gaelic ''lochan'' is /Loxan/ ''a small lake, a pool'', distinct from /Lox@n/ which is the plural ''lochs''. The word is listed in my copies of ''Dinneen'' (p. 669) and ''Dwelly'' (p. 594). In Cregeen's Manx Dictionary it can be found on p. 119 as ''loghan''.

The gist of my message is: Do you think I am being treated fairly? ] (]) 18:39, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

If you have any of these materials, I'll gladly provide my contact details (unfortunately I've forgotten my Wiki login details, so in the interim I'll try to dig out my login, or will set up a new account if I can't). Thanks very much in advance! 58.179.70.149 (talk) 09:18, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't have digital copies of any of those, only paper. You could check whether any of them has been added to archive.org, though I wouldn't hold my breath. —Mahāgaja · talk 09:23, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
All good, I just thought I'd ask. I've been able to lay hands on a number of dialect sources (I have copies of the monographs on Iorras Aithneach, Cois Fhairrge, Aran Islands, Rathlin, Dingle, Tangaveane-Commeen, Meenawannia, West Muskerry, and also a digital copy of Stockman and Wagner on the Irish of Tyrone), I'm just trying to expand to as many sources as possible so I can establish isoglosses using additional material beyond what's included in LASID. Thanks anyway! 58.179.70.149 (talk) 14:32, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Identifying an American accent on Language Ref. Desk

You sure answered that as far as it could be answered. I didn't feel motivated to even try... AnonMoos (talk) 21:15, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

Power abuse on Wiktionary

Hello Mahagaja, and happy new year. I might have given you a heart attack with the title, but it's not about you :)

Yet again have I been blocked by the same admin (Fenakhay) who is extremely possessive on Arabic and Maltese entries. All I did was this edit - I invite you to judge whether it is vandalism.

The gist of my message is: Do you think I am being treated fairly? Synotia (moan) 18:39, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

FYI, the question of a Punic substrate in Maghrebi Arabic is not even that fringe, you can send our friend this for example. Synotia (moan) 14:29, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
