**Actually, it was one of Stern's funniest interviews. I heard it when Stern was still on regular (terrestrial) radio. Amos was laughing very hard; he wouldn't directly admit that Esther Rolle was an ugly brute, but he did say it was very hard for him to kiss her without closing his eyes. When watching reruns of the show, look at Amos when he kisses Rolle: His eyes are usually shut, and you can catch the grimace on his face.{{unsigned|68.236.57.219|12:18, 10 February 2008}}

The Variety article that claims that is incorrect. He only did it at the McCarter in NJ: https://playbill.com/article/rashad-to-reprise-gem-of-the-ocean-role-for-mccarter-theatre-amos-to-co-star-com-127338 It's not on his ibdb.com page https://www.ibdb.com/broadway-cast-staff/john-amos-104492 either. I did not want to make the change because I am hoping Variety will (I left a comment). But they are definitely wrong. ] (]) 13:57, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
