Hi, I'm not sure exactly where to go for this, but I noticed that you're on both the Project Oregon and Project Biography collaborations, so I thought I'd ask you for some help. I rewrote the article on ] a while back, but it seems that no one has gotten around to reviewing the changes. I believe the notability of the article was in question and hopefully I provided enough to establish notability. Would it be appropriate for me to ask you (or ask you where to find help) to look it over for quality? I didn't want to delete the cleanup tag without any outside comments, but would like to see it gone. I would also like to see it upped to at least a start-class on the quality scale (but I'm not sure what the requirements are) and want to know what the weaknesses of the article is so I can try to improve it. I'm just not sure how these things work... Thanks! ] (]) 20:48, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I am not writing to question your observation regarding the golf courses in Salem. You will note upon careful examination that there are only 2 golf facilities with in the city limits. Creekside Golf Club - Private requires country club membership and Salem Golf Club. A facility identified as Semi-Private with fees in excess of $55. A typical Municipal facility would have affordable fees in the $25 to $30 range.

Each year I volunteer to teach golf to the middle school students at Walker (in West Salem) many who are from foster homes. What irks me is that I am given a reward to share with the participants "a chance to actually play a free 9 holes of golf" after they complete the program. The problem they have to have someone drive them to Independence, Stayton, Woodburn or Mt Angel in order to test their skills on a real golf course.

What are we teaching them? Sure how to swing a club, but that is just the tip of the iceberg, kind of like the first class in contracts at Willamette Law School. The most important lessons are Integrity, honesty, confidence, sportsmanship, courtesy, judgment etc. I have discovered that golf can serve as a tool to expose these traits in a person as they play the sport. I find this a great insight into individuals.

So to get back to the original issue. The City states they recognize golf as important in the community promoting the activity as a recreational community opportunity. Then the city ignores funding such facilities for their citizens by encouraging development on such facilities.

Now this may sound like a WP:SOAPBOX or an opinion, just the same these are facts about the city Parks and Recreation services. They are facts about the City of Salem and Golf in the community. Misplaced Pages has elected to identify sports and recreation in the City of Salem. Does this mean only certain facts and sports are eligible? (thus my question about hiking.) Likely this was a confrontational question and I will take the reply as a learning issue. How does one specify such facts and maintain the NPOV? I understand the value of historical reporting regarding the Oregon experience. Does this mean current history and civil issues are not to be included?

<blockquote>Paragraphs should be short enough for readability, but long enough to develop an idea. Overly long paragraphs should be split up, as long as the cousin paragraphs keep the idea in focus. Beginning with a "bridge" or "transition" statement such as "Other examples abound" may be helpful. One-sentence paragraphs are unusually emphatic, and should be used sparingly. Articles should rarely, if ever, consist solely of such paragraphs.</blockquote>

Generally, a paragraph is used to separate ideas and in so doing makes an article easier to read. Obviously what constitutes an idea break is subject to debate, but please, don't simply quote a guideline without reading it or understanding why an editor would make a change in hopes of improving an article, especially when an assessment has been requested. thanks. 03:12, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Permission Request

I came across some of your photos on the Tualatin, Oregon wiki page. I work at a local credit union (a not-for-profit) and we're looking for some local photographs that may be used in our new branch.

I wanted to see if I could get permission to print and post photos in our branch? I'm not sure the best way to attribute the photos would be - perhaps adding your name to the bottom of them?

Please let me know if this is something you'd be amenable to. I greatly appreciate your time! Afoster2022 (talk) 21:46, 15 November 2022 (UTC)

Your (or someone else) assessment of Ahmed Umar (artist)

Hi. I’m not sure if it was you or someone else who rated/assessed Ahmed Umar (artist) article as a start. To be honest it was a bit disappointing as I though the article should at least get a C. anyway, I wonder if you are able to give a feedback to help improving the quality of the article (even you if were not the one to assess it am sure you have expertise to weigh in) FuzzyMagma (talk) 00:39, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

The issue is the early life section. Two sentences cover about 20 years of their life, or more than half of their life. I understand little is known, but without more the article is incomplete. We have articlex that have all there is to know about 2000 year old Romans, but when that article is only a paragraph long, it is still a stub. Aboutmovies (talk) 05:04, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
Got that .. will revert the rating back then. Hopefully with time more information reveals itself and that section improves. Thnx @AboutmoviesFuzzyMagma (talk) 20:58, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

I know this is kinda stupid, but I thanked your welcome message to my talk page 4 years. Only figured out how to do it in 2023 after a break. A belated thanks regardless! Mseingth2133444 (talk/contribs) 04:16, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

WikiProject rating

Hi there! Thanks for all your contributions! I noticed you'd recently done some WikiProject rating and wanted to make sure that under WP:PIQA we're moving to only having the quality ratings in the banner shell rather than for individual projects. The Kephir tool is old and hasn't been updated to reflect this. Thanks. -Kj cheetham (talk) 23:39, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

Thanks @Kj cheetham: but until it actually works properly, it should not be implemented. Here is an example I see fairly often where it is assessed in the banner shell, but shows up as unassessed in WP:BIO. Aboutmovies (talk) 01:05, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
@MSGJ:, could you comment on this? I'm not sure what's gone wrong with that example. Thanks. -Kj cheetham (talk) 19:15, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
Aboutmovies In almost all cases it's worked fine, and the times it's hasn't it's been a case of errors in the original code which the bot couldn't understand. In this case I posted about it at Template_talk:WikiProject_banner_shell#Possible_bug? and Qwerfjkl spotted an extra } which has solved it. Tracking categories are being set up to look for various types of errors, but on the whole it's been quite successful I think with literally millions of talk pages converted. -20:02, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
