It was good to see you too, David. I was really impressed with all the work you did. What I liked about the meeting was that at least four different people got up and spoke to the group, as opposed to just one or two, so there was a greater sense of participation than I've seen so far. I was glad to get up and move the camera around a few times so that the video will show this. And speaking of Barnstars, I took a pic of MS holding up one (in case you already didn't). As for the video upload, I forgot which website ] referred me to when we uploaded the video from the last Meetup, so I left a message on his Talk Page asking him to remind me of it. He hasn't yet responded, so stay tuned. I'm also having trouble uploading pics to the Commons, since there's no Upload button on the left, but you cou8ld probably help me out there. Apologies for removing the image completely, I meant to retain it elsewhere in the article from the outset (which I have now reverted and fixed). I believe that the image I added, regardless of its resolution, is more suitable for the infobox because it is a straight-on headshot from the shoulders up (i.e. better proportions for its position, better angle), whereas your image was more suited for the main body of the article because of its size and her face is angled away from the camera. Just one other question, what event was this from? It would be useful to add that to the caption. <b><i>]<small> ] • ] </small></i></b> 14:30, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

:Responding to the "unintentionally confusing" comment. Here's what was wrong: Basically -- a 3RR violation (strictly speaking) is 4 reverts within 24 hours. To demonstrate 4 reverts, what you should show is four diffs (which you did) and also an older version of the article to demonstrate that the first of the diffs was actually a revert. So in all you'd be showing 5 different revisions of the article that are all the same -- the first could be old (not within the 24h period). In this case, there only exist 4 revisions that were the same, which is why this was not strictly a 3RR violation -- only 3 of the edits were actually reverts; the first was simply an edit. I didn't intend to accuse you of being intentionally confusing -- 3RR reports are tricky enough as it is, and this kind of mistake gets made a lot. ]]] 15:24, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

:Your misunderstanding the concept of "civility" and you are misunderstanding what I wrote. Misplaced Pages is not an easy thing to edit, especially since many people erroneously feel it is in a state of near-completion and only needs "maintenance". Changes to text can be more difficult than you might imagine. Anything that hurts your arguments, I tried to warn you, will hurt your ability to successfully edit here. "America Needs Jesus" as a User name does several things: it instantly colors ever argument you make; people automatically assume a litany of things about you. Some, that may be positive; others, it is negative. The idea of ] is focus on the edits not the editor, but your User name makes that a challenge for many people. Additionally, some people could take that as an advocacy position (which it clearly is), and it may just be spiritual advocacy to you, but to others it could be advocating erosion of the separation of church and state (America is not an individual, but a political entity). That's inappropriate for User names. People find advocacy disruptive, possibly violative of policy such as ], and even if you think there is nothing wrong with it, people are rightly asked to change. The same request would be made of ], ], ], ], et. al. --<font color="#0000C0">David</font> ''']''' 12:58, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

So what ended up happening with Floyd? Is he banned from editing the Barrow page now? I kept wondering what happened to the Barrow High School football team portions of the Barrow page. Thanks for sticking up for the Barrow High School football team section! --] (]) 00:11, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

:Hey Reezy - you were correct, so I had no trouble supporting you. Floyd is a positive and valuable member of the project, but he shows how problematic it is to invest yourself too much in an article. I had that problem when I tried to bring ] to GA - I didn't have the temperament to watch it change, and had to remove it from my watch list. If I was Floyd I would feel proud that I was the person making sure my home town had a good and accurate article (I recently did a lot of work on ]). But Floyd has ownership issues. I tend to be too heavy-handed in argumentation against owners, but I respect people who show the care and passion about their neck of the project. Unfortunately, it's time-consuming and a hassle for other editors to deal with (like you). Now, if I start to argue over a ''principle'' instead of over the ''issue'', I know I need to step back. ] is the best example, where I argued based on principle, and upset a valued editor (]) over something I really didn't care about. Principle is fine for important articles and policy discussions; but in the end...a person has to ask if it's worth the drama and stress to argue and force your hand, no matter how right you are? In my experience, the answer is no. It also leads to burn-out. --<font color="#0000C0">David</font> ''']''' 02:08, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Regarding , I agree. I noticed that earlier, was about to block, thought, "hang on, it's an IP, we can't block those indefinitely", got distracted by something else, and then assumed someone else would have dealt with it. Academic search engines do not index Encarta or All Movie Guide because they are not considered serious research resources like NY Times and Britannica are. and I hope you're good - I've just gotten through listening to the very interesting conversation you were part of over at ] - and it was partly that audio which inspired me to pop back over to the biographical opt out proposal pages to take another look.... I thought I'd swing by here partly to say that I thought your comments were interesting, and I hope you'll record other material at some point - and also to make sure we don't talk at crossed purposes about the proposal pages - I thought you should know that I'm just trying to promote a useful discussion at those pages, and certainly don't want to disrupt at all - if you think the archive should be undone, I certainly wouldn't revert you - I just think that the first stage of discussion had sort of run its course... you'll also see from the talk page that I've replied a bit about a possible confusion over tag swapping etc.

*Saturday November 12 '''] (])'''.
I'm sure we can kick on to continue useful discussion, and I hope we haven't set off on the wrong foot - it's nice to 'wiki' meet you, and I look forward to chatting further at various pages around the place.... cheers, ] (]) 00:56, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

*I'm sorry you took my conversation on the BLP issue at ] and were inspired to do what you did over at OptOut. You want to wait a few months and re-propose OptOut, go for it. But a week later doing what you did makes it hard to AGF. And after this week, I am even more resolutely against OptOut than I was before. And from some of my e-mails, I know a lot of other people feel the same, including some who were on the fence about it. --<font color="#0000C0">David</font> ''']''' 02:23, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

:it was the conversation in the whole which inspired me to head back that way - and certainly I take complete responsibility for my editing, it wasn't your voice in my head telling me to do it! - Your last comment troubles me a bit, because it sort of implies battle lines are being drawn - you know, a continued sort of 'us' and 'them' mentality - which has been used to justify all sorts of activity all over the real world and wiki world for long enough for me to be rather nervous around it... you're totally entitled to your opinions and ideas of course, but I'm very wary of it starting to sound like our articles are in any way weapons or tools to use as part of any fight.. I'm sure you get what I mean.....

A couple of points. Various people, who were involved with the person whose name I redacted openly, had recognised that it was best not to mention him as it gives him attention. Have a word with Alison, I was acting in good faith.

Secondly, I had some private discussions with Brad, so I am fairly clear on his reasons. We were on good terms and had an understanding. As I hope I made clear, there was someone who did something absolutely inappropriate. The reason I described these things in veiled tones was that he had asked specifically that he not be discussed.

I am neither black and white on issues, nor am I settled in my thinking. I think there is genuine debate to be had. You seem very settled in your mind, but very defensive. As you get older, you may come to see that pessimism is your friend, you will not be disappointed - an optimist is always let down as things are unlikely to turn out as they hope. I am a happy pessimist. It works well.

Hi David. David Shankbone Creative Commons Licenses Are Now Public Domain

Hi all - I've been moving all my photography licenses—to the extent they don't violate respective laws and personality rights—out of the Creative Commons license structure and into the public domain. The most significant shift is that anyone can profit off my work and no need to give me credit. This license shift is evident on my Flickr, including photos from the Rolling Stones' last concert (which was amazing - can't believe a guy like Mick Jagger exists) to Lenny Kravitz in Montreal. Anyone has 'license' to change my Creative Commons licenses into the Public Domain. David Shankbone 07:24, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:FloydAbramsNewYork.JPG

A tag has been placed on File:FloydAbramsNewYork.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. --Minorax 02:15, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of File:FloydAbramsNewYork2.jpg

Notice

The file File:FloydAbramsNewYork2.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Redundant to File:FloydAbramsNewYork.JPG

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. File permission problem with File:Ben Georgia and David Shankbone, 8 September 2006.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Ben Georgia and David Shankbone, 8 September 2006.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Misplaced Pages:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Misplaced Pages's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax 10:07, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
