==Addressing Concerns==
Hi English Peasant, I'd like to address some perceived concerns. The reason I spoke out regarding Mario1987's ban is due to the fact that while he has not always observed policies nor always been accurate in his endeavors, he has shown a will to better the project and has sworn never again to abuse sock puppets, which is the actual reason he was banned. While my personal inclination was to deny this as being motivated by saying whatever is necessary to avoid a ban, I thought it necessary to assume good faith, as per Misplaced Pages policy. I assure you that I shall be watching him intently, and I've chatted with the unbanning admin regarding him, so if he slips up he'll be done forever.

What happend? Where are you? I hate to see a friend of mine leaving... E-mail me if you want. ] (]) 19:16, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
When I say "return to productive editing." I was trying to be encouraging, and was only supporting the edits that comply with Misplaced Pages policy. While the user has behaved in a questionable manner in the past, I'd encourage you to give him the benefit of the doubt, at least until he messes up again, as it'll be his last time. Anyway, I hope this clears up some issues. Cheers! --] (]) 08:56, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, first of all thanks for working hard on south american footballers stubs, you're doing a great job (as usual!). As far as the Paraguayan statistics I'm afraid that ] will be your best bet for finding caps and goals at the national team level. As far as club level you just won't find anything, believe me, I've tried so hard to find statistics for Paraguayan players with no luck. The only info I can come up with when creating articles are DOBs and career clubs (usually by Googling or from ]). Regards. ] (]) 17:08, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Please, do not use the site as a reference. It just a community site just like wikipedia. I often found their transfer fee was wrong (and often had a wrong transfer record). Please use a news/article reported by reliable media instead. ] ]] 11:09, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
*I don't recall ever using it as a reference, but I do occasionally add the Transfermarkt profile in the External links section as it often contains more data on Argentine players than the usual reliable sources which are heavily restricted by pay walls. 13:10, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

::: Hi Mario. While you have a couple options at your disposal for dealing with repeated abuse, I'd like to suggest a few things first. While a personal attack is a very serious matter, I think it's important to note that ] ] has the best interest of the project at heart, and is simply trying to stay within the guidelines for notability and factual accuracy. While it could be argued that he does so with too much fervor, I believe there are alternatives to reporting him at this stage. One of his major issues was factual accuracy; What I would do in this circumstance is, instead of treating it as an attack against me, treat it as constructive criticism. If I were sure that my articles were factual, in spite of his claim to the contrary, the logical thing to do is reference them! I think in this manner you two could possibly play off each other to build up a strong stream of well referenced articles.

==Alberto Ohaco==
:::Another major complaint of his is notability. I personally see people who make complaints about the notability of articles as people dedicated to maintaining the quality of the encyclopaedia. When an article of yours goes up for deletion, I'd simply wait for the community decision. If your articles are truly notable, odds are that they shall remain in Misplaced Pages, as several of them already have. As for these percieved negative comments towards you, I'd suggest honestly to rise above it and ignore them. Try to avoid becoming personally affected and hostile yourself, and keep in mind that many people, including yourself, do questionable things with the quality of the project in mind.
No worries - I've restored it. Bizarrrely someone translated what you wrote exactly into Spanish (or at least that what it looks like to me), and then it seems to have been copied by directly from Misplaced Pages (as it still includes the citation numbers and the Infobox coding!). ] ]] 08:33, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

== Hypocricy ==
If you examine your articles on Argentine football players you see words like 'impressive' , 'legend' and 'extraordinary' so to remove any words about Asprilla, clearly an outstanding player is ridiculous. As for the comment on Redondo it was linked to an article (i.e - sourced) so clearly its not only my point of view that he was exceptional. In fact he is one of the best Argentine players of the past 20 years in my view. So basically its pathetic, if you are going to be accusing of no NPOV then first look at your own articles.
--] 16.14pm 13/04/08
:Accusing people of Hypocricy isn't going to help if you can't point me to a particular edit of mine stating anything like "greatest ever", "excellent", "brilliant skills" etc. Even though many of the players I write about are in my opinion legendary and excellent, I try to write about them in terms of facts and achievements, not my own point of view. Hi, and sorry for the late response. In my opinion, your proposal has both pros and cons. The main advantage, as you already noted, is the simplification of the roster editing process. On the other hand, every single football club article should have a corresponding squad template, which is a thing I do not support at all (especially for minor league teams). Virtue is in the middle, as we say in Italy, so a possible solution is to add this support only for major clubs. This is my opinion. --] (]) 14:42, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

== Argentine League titles ==

I agree with you that the Centenario Cup is a different competition, however the title of the section doesn't say "League Titles", it mentions official competitions by AFA in the Professional Era. Either we change the title, or we recognize whatever the AFA considers official. I see no reason to be more "papist than the Pope." Let me know what you think.] (]) 18:38, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

:Hi again. I just checked how this page appears in the Spanish Misplaced Pages. Official championships in the Professional Era are properly categorized; the Centennial Cup appears in its own category, together with two other official AFA cups. All these three are listed in the AFA website among the list of "Argentine Champions of the Professional Era." I suggest we could do the same here in the English Misplaced Pages.] (]) 19:01, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

::I must say I disagree. We are talking of here of "Argentine First Division champions", so things like Copa Lipton etc are irrelevant because these were international competitions between countries. I think the criterion is simple: the AFA has a section entitled "Argentine First Division Champions." In it, in addition to the League titles, it quotes only '''three''' other cups of equal importance, one of them being the Centennial Cup. There's no different section or other cups like the ones you mention. All I'm saying is: 1) either to reproduce the official AFA criterion for what constitutes an "Argentine First Division Champion", or 2) Include a brief link to the proper section for these very unique three Argentine cups, as it is done in the Spanish Misplaced Pages site. It's not too much to ask.] (]) 03:32, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

::Misquoting and arguing the point that is not being disputed is just distracting, not a replacement for good argument. Your sweeping comment regarding the Copas Lipton etc in your "response" to me is out of place, and clearly is not what I said. Let me try again: the point is very simple. The section we are arguing about is called "Argentine First Division Champions", not "Argentine First Division League Champions." If you add "league", then there's no argument since Gimnasia LP has not won one. However, since the concept of "league" is used in Europe, not in Argentina, the AFA accordingly labels the category as "First Division Champions" plainly. Gimnasia LP is one of those, and that's why it appears in the official list. I just want this article to agree with the AFA information, as it is the case of the one in the Spanish Misplaced Pages. Otherwise, state that the list in the English version refers to "league titles only." It's that simple.] (])04:50, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

:::We finally agree on something: we are wasting each other's time. Someone made the change I requested to the proper heading of ], so this aspect is addressed for the moment to my satisfaction. Still, though the article gives accurate information, it remains incomplete (thus inexact), as anyone checking the AFA site can tell. Hopefully, this will also be corrected soon. Do not assign a "misleading" intention to my corrections; they were an honest entry that was appropriate (to my view) with the heading of the table at the time. After all, none of us should claim to know more about Argentine football statistics than the fellows at AFA, shouldn't we?] (]) 04:32, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

==Football template naming convention==
I saw you removed CONEMBOL from the Brazil template for Copa America, and I saw your edit explanation. So I thought I would give my resoning here. All national football templates currently have been using the conferderation in the template title. It is the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Euro 2008. Adding CONEMBOL is simply following the naming convention. Why is this a bad thing and in need of removal this especially helps when these appear on US or Mexican pages who may also appear in CONCACAF tournaments, not everyone is aware of which tournamnet belongs to which confederation. Please reply here I am monitoring this page <small><span style="border:1px solid black;padding:1px;">]]</span></small> 21:53, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
:I just find it very distracting, its quite hard to dig out what the template is actually about on the when Copa América is buried between '''Brazil squad - CONEMBOL''' and '''2007 Winners (8th Title)'''. I thought the reason European Cup was preceded by UEFA is that there are a number of other ]s and there are also loads of ]s and ]s. There is only one Copa América of any note, and I guess not many other competitions called African Cup of Nations either, so I would see the inclusion of the confederation name as unnecessary. Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the ]. Please see ] for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to ] and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend ] at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch ], for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Please help monitor the article ]. There have been tons of edits lately (probably by the same person), who keeps changing his birthday from 1982 to 1983 (not true according to the sources), says that he's played in major international tournaments for Argentina (definitely not true), and links him to various clubs (not even appear to be legit "rumours"). I've also removed the part about him being capped at the under-20 level; while I cannot prove that's incorrect, no sources are given either. The reason I removed the link is that I'm currently working to make that disambiguation page redundant. It is a high priority on the list to remove unnecessary disambiguation pages. "European Cup" is a term which should not link to anywhere as it is too unspecific. if people with to use the term "European Cup" then it should be by directing it to the specific tournament they are referring to...or if they mean just generic European Cups then it shouldn't be wiki-linked at all. I'll leave it to you to remove the link for now, but if it's still there when I'm finished working my way through the list then I'll remove it again. Thanks djdannyp 08:42, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

== Lima Cricket & Football Club ==

Let me permit the writing of this message involve quoting what you stated and me giving a reply to each of your statements:

"The institution may have been founded in 1845 but reference 4 gives a date of 1893 which post dates many south american teams."

The source that states "the club" was originally founded in 1845 clearly defines the name of the organization at that point as "Salon de Comercio." The same source also states it acted as a sports organization, but it did not mention any specific sports or if they had an official sort of team. Similarly, neither did I state they did when I wrote it in the article.

The date of reference 4 that claims 1893 might as well be considered incorrect. According to the '''official Lima Cricket website''', they were founded in 1859. The "Salon de Comercio" of 1845 was pretty much, in other words, what served as the base for the future creation of Lima Cricket (therefore still important to mention of its prior existance). Now, that does not mean reference 4 is completely incorrect. Since Lima Cricket's official website is a superior source, it simply means that the date in "reference 4" is not correct.

"Please do not re-add the information without providing a reliable source that football was played here before 1867."

According to the '''official Lima Cricket website''', they have a sports foundation of football, rugby, and cricket starting from the year 1859. That is the most reliable source that you'll ever find on the matter.

"Simply taking the foundation date of the institution is not acceptable, doing this would make the institution the oldest football club in the world predating the officially recognised oldest club Sheffield F.C. by 12 years."

You're incorrect. Sheffield was founded in 1857. Lima Cricket was "founded" in 1859.

If you wish to continue the discussion, feel free to do so using my talk page. On the other hand, if you find what I'm stating an understandable response, then please re-include the information you deleted from the article.--] (]) 23:07, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

"The Lima Cricket and Football Club‎ website is non-nuetral,therefore less reliable that the neutral source."

The Lima Cricket and Football Club is an organization of much prestige in Peru. In their website they state that they have documentation that certifies their claim that in 1859 they were a club that practiced football, rugby, and cricket. If such a thing were false, then the Peruvian government would have already fined them for lying.

Furthermore, if according to the other websites of the other football clubs they were founded on the dates they said they were founded, their claims are just as valid as that of Lima Cricket's 1859 date.

"if you wish to use the Lima Cricket and Football Club article to boast about football in Peru predating football elsewhere on the continent plaese find a relaible source that gives an account of a football match played in Peru before 1867."

According to the book you cite, the '''first recorded''' football match happened in 1867. In that same book they never state that this was '''the first football match'''. They simply state that it was the "first recorded." I'm sure you know enough about the English language to know the difference between both things.--23:46, 25 September 2008 (UTC) <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">—Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) </span><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

# You clearly believe that you own the Peru section of the ] article constantly reverting other peoples edits. # You left this on my talkpage, it is misleading '''According to the book you cite, the first recorded football match happened in 1867. This contradicts your wishful interpretation of what the book says.

::Look, you little insignificant worm. My contributions to Misplaced Pages are simply aimed at improving the quality of this website and at providing factual information in order to uncover the truth out of controversial topics. Nonetheless, after all the hard work I do to improve articles, gather sources, gather pictures, and all other sort of information; I end up getting back-handed by a bunch of imbeciles that, like you, think you're some sort of "bad boys" of Misplaced Pages and that with your self-given title of "respected editors" you can and have a right to act as if you were professionals of this website. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Misplaced Pages:The 10,000 Challenge and Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Misplaced Pages:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoLo dicono a Signa. 00:38, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Misplaced Pages. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 16:08, 24 February 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of José Diego Álvarez (disambiguation)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on José Diego Álvarez (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Misplaced Pages page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Misplaced Pages pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Boleyn (talk) 09:26, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Escudo de Camarones.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Escudo de Camarones.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Misplaced Pages may not meet the criteria required by Misplaced Pages:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Misplaced Pages:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Ирука 05:42, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
