== Commercial/Images on a mac ==
:::It's kinda known that graphic designers have a fetish for Apple's products and it works well with Apple's main theme of simplicity in design. Considering this, there's really no surprise in having the commercials being made with Macs - although it is a bit awkward for Microsoft and CPB that they didn't think about this issue. Anyways, I'm concerned that this article promotes a "boneheaded" narrative rather than just tell what happened in a neutral encyclopedic way. To clarify, I feel you've re-admitted ] material in the introduction regarding Microsoft's reaction to one section of criticism. It is already in the body of the article and is not that big a detail that it should be prominently displayed, taking up one sixth of the introduction to the article. I'll be ] for now, in hoping you will agree with me, and remove the re-addition of the text from the lead - but if you disagree, I would not object for external opinions on this.

This is inconsistent information. The images could very well have been screen shots taken and copied into Photoshop on a Mac. Obviously, Photoshop would not be used for video editing, as it's a still image editor. Looking through MSDN can reveal that alot of Microsoft employees support both platforms fairly equally as well (Often times, code snippets for OSX appear here as a comparison between the Windows/Mac way). Either way, it should be noted that there's no proof that the videos are made on a mac, just the screenshots/photos, as this is incomplete information.
I do disagree. Vehemently. While you note that the "fetish" for Apple products means that commercials are made with Macs, you missed the main point. I don't think anyone would have really cared that Apple Macs were used to make the commercials. What is damning is that Microsoft chose to data-scrub any connection to Apple, therefore admitting to the embarrassment. It is most certainly not undue weight to note that, both in the lead (which is a summary of the article) and in the body of the criticism section. I, of course, have put the removed statement back in. Please remember that we're not trying to show-up Microsoft but rather to tell the story in a neutral manner. To be frank, the article it were written by a Macintosh employee first time I laid eyes on it with the majority of references leading to "PC guy uses Mac" blog sites. The lead seemed to portray Microsoft as an incompetent failure trying to chase Apple. Sure, the errors are notable but the criticism already takes up half the article space and this tidbit of deleting metadata is ] for the lead since it looks like Misplaced Pages is trying to hammer a point. Is this really needed? Most, if not all, of the section seems to be basically some sort of attack because the campaign used Macs or people with Apple products. To the first: to be honest, the Mac is the OS of choice for graphics designers, and I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft's advertising division has a few Macs; and the second point is even worse! Especially in the case of Ms. Longoria and Pharrell, their celebrity status, especially among the 13-24 demographic, means they have to be somewhat fashionable. As a neutral third party, I'm not seeing anything wrong with the article as it stands. Could perhaps use a little beefing up in terms of describing the advertisements, core messaging of the ads, and public/journalistic reactions to them, but beyond that it's looking relatively well-balanced, in my opinion. ]<sup>] | ]</sup> 20:41, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
:Oddly enough, Yes. This is the part that has the notability, not the ad itself. The ad itself is rather a mundane flop. It's the sensationalized controversy over a Windows commercial being produced on a Mac that makes this campaign notable. That being said, I agree 100% with your assessment and I think the Criticism section is still too big when compared to the rest of the article. For example, it's as big as the rest of the article. How silly it is to use the celebrity presence to blast the producers (hey, an endorsement is an endorsement) doesn't matter, that's what the articles are criticizing them for. Of the 6 refs 4 are regarding the controversy (such as it is) and 1 is a simple reprint of an e-mail auto-response (the other is the blog which I can't access from work). I'd have no problem supporting a merge with the "Mac Vs. PC" article as a "Controversies" subsection. But the criticism (or facets thereof) should be kept, they are the only notable coverage the campaign has gotten. However, it looks slanted enough as it is. :I have no issue with the ref work that Jaakobou performed, as it was largely non-controversial, but I did find problems with some of his assumptions that it was written by an ''Apple'' employee (I created and expanded the article, so it was a notably pigeon-toed lapse in good-faith, as far as I was concerned). J made almost 50 edits to the article, and discussed approximately none of them, until asked. This is a community, and when one makes edits they can be reasonably sure are contentious, its time to head to the discussion page. When you are reverted, it becomes doubly-more important. Interpreting the discussion part of the BRD cycle as 'post why i did it and revert back in the same edit again' does not work, and I am of the opinion that half of the addle-pated, lame-ass edit-warring that occurs in Misplaced Pages would would simply vanish if people actually presumed to work with others. Jaak isn't a moron, and neither am I. I expect discussion on those points where we disagree; its how consensus and compromise are found.
:That aside, that Microsoft attempted to conceal the fact that their ad campaign was created on a competitor's machines - an ad campaign that ironically points out how their machines are ''everywhere'' in both ironic, notable and encyclopedic. Does that mean the article is about that, and that alone? Nope. But it does get pointed out, for the bone-headed move it is with plenty of citation. And frankly, i take exception to the BS implication that I added only those sources from Mac-friendly sources and blogs. Most issues were superficial with a small number of them - like excessive criticism and mentioning of Apple - of more room for discussion. The references were destroyed as well as a good number of basic cleanups which should not elicit any argument. Other basic changes like placing together criticisms rather than have Microsoft's "official press release" sandwiched between should be fairly clear as well. First of all, Both Tiptoety and myself indicated that we didn't see problems with the article, and Tiptoety asked that everyone refrain from making any controversial changes before discussing them here. Clearly the changes you made are controversial in Jaakobu's opinion, while Jaakobu's are controversial in yours. Might I ask that as an act of good faith you undo your last edit, and outline here what specific issues you have with the article, and your suggestions for addressing those issues? Here's an example of what I mean:
In the third paragraph: "The $300 million dollar advertising campaign was designed to challenge Apple's "Mac Vs. PC" campaign"... shouldn't the "Mac Vs. PC" part be replaced with "Get a Mac"? "Get a Mac" is the actual name of Apple's ad campaign, after all. ] (]) 16:22, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Commercial/Images on a mac

This is inconsistent information. The images could very well have been screen shots taken and copied into Photoshop on a Mac. Obviously, Photoshop would not be used for video editing, as it's a still image editor. Looking through MSDN can reveal that alot of Microsoft employees support both platforms fairly equally as well (Often times, code snippets for OSX appear here as a comparison between the Windows/Mac way). Either way, it should be noted that there's no proof that the videos are made on a mac, just the screenshots/photos, as this is incomplete information. Criticism section

Is this really needed? Most, if not all, of the section seems to be basically some sort of attack because the campaign used Macs or people with Apple products. To the first: to be honest, the Mac is the OS of choice for graphics designers, and I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft's advertising division has a few Macs; and the second point is even worse! Especially in the case of Ms. Longoria and Pharrell, their celebrity status, especially among the 13-24 demographic, means they have to be somewhat fashionable. If I were a celebrity, I would have a top-of-the-range phone like the iPhone, not a Nokia 3310. Sceptre 13:42, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Oddly enough, Yes. This is the part that has the notability, not the ad itself. The ad itself is rather a mundane flop. It's the sensationalized controversy over a Windows commercial being produced on a Mac that makes this campaign notable. That being said, I agree 100% with your assessment and I think the Criticism section is still too big when compared to the rest of the article. For example, it's as big as the rest of the article. How silly it is to use the celebrity presence to blast the producers (hey, an endorsement is an endorsement) doesn't matter, that's what the articles are criticizing them for. To be fair, the ad campaign is not noteworthy, the criticism is (and the tag and edit-war are out of line). Of the 6 refs 4 are regarding the controversy (such as it is) and 1 is a simple reprint of an e-mail auto-response (the other is the blog which I can't access from work). I'd have no problem supporting a merge with the "Mac Vs. PC" article as a "Controversies" subsection. But the criticism (or facets thereof) should be kept, they are the only notable coverage the campaign has gotten. However, it looks slanted enough as it is. => They want a computer, so they go to the store (or use the phone or internet) and buy a PC (because it's the first one on the shelf), then they notice one of their friend have a Mac "ho it's kinda pretty, the user interface looks nice", so they get a macbook/iphone/etc. What's the big deal behind this ?! "Woaw you drink Coca Cola and Pepsi too ! this is not possible!"

Imo 2 sentences maximum would be plenty enough, like "Trivia : the images for that campaign appeared to have been made with Photoshop Apple, while some of the celebrities hired for that campaign use Apple products too". That's it. That makes you smile and that's largely enough for Misplaced Pages.

I think the origin of this misunderstanding comes from the fact that a minority of Apple product users believe that since the millisecond they gave their money to the clerk or to the online store for their Apple product, they instantly became member of a "private gentlemen club", the "Mac users" : pulling jokes about Windows with a wink and helping each others like a band of brothers against the ignorant-masses PC users. It's just marketing. Don't bring that on Misplaced Pages please.
nb : (FYI) I own, use and maintain several desktops and notebooks (me, family, close friends), from the 90' to nowaday, "Mac" or "PC", Mac OS/Windows/"Linux", some of them "right out of the box" and some of them I fully assemble myself, and they're all the same stuff : tools. T-O-O-L-S. Like a freaking pen or a screwdriver. Stop being religious nuts about your computer bloody hell D:

"Mac Vs. PC"

In the third paragraph: "The $300 million dollar advertising campaign was designed to challenge Apple's "Mac Vs. PC" campaign"... shouldn't the "Mac Vs. PC" part be replaced with "Get a Mac"? Biased?

The “I’m a pc” girl

I’m genuinely just curious, but who is the “im a pc” girl (aka Kylie) in the windows 7 commercials? She was at the windows 7 launch event and starred in some commercials, and then that was it. She just seemingly vanished. Generallynotexsisting (talk) 10:00, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
