== Who's handling MG now? ==

== Administrators' newsletter – January 2024 ==
After PMDrive's retirement, I've noticed that nobody else has decided to take his place to remove MG. I feel that unless someone is keeping a close eye on him, he'll just end up spawning more account hives and still performing edits when he shouldn't be. Any info on this? <font color="#94887C">]</font> <font color="#D2CDC6">]</font> 10:15, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

:Nobody was handling MG, per se, though PMDrive was certainly good at finding him. Other admins have blocked MG sockpuppets in the past. If you find some that need blocking, feel free to drop me a line and I'll block them. I've added his page to my watch list, but I don't monitor his usual targets, so I'm not likely to find his new accounts. -- ] (]) 23:33, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

::That's what I mean, he was pretty much the sole person trying to remove him for good even though nobody wants to take action as he's not a Grawp level of vandal. You can't simply keep playing Whack-A-Mole with his sockpuppets each time one pops up and I also reckon keeping a well updated list of his most recent accounts is good either, even he edits it! No, something does need to be done because regardless of if he's being malicious or even editing in good faith, he remains an issue and I'd like to see if those who have dealt with MG in the past can make some form of coordinated effort to get this guy community blocked. I know PMDrive tried very hard, even asking Jimbo and others higher up the food chain than the local admins here for some action and nothing has happened and makes a mockery of the anti-vandal system. <font color="#94887C">]</font> <font color="#D2CDC6">]</font> 10:22, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

:::He's already been community banned, so it already is block on sight. Apparently whatever ISP he uses has a large IP pool and too many other active or potentially active editors to make a range block worthwhile without collateral damage. Unfortunately, beyond that, there isn't much more admins can do about that. Going to the Foundation, I would imagine he isn't a high priority compared to other more prolific and destructive vandals like Grawp. -- ] (]) 03:40, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

They are right, he's no Grawp and is merely an irritant to those who know his past behaviour but I'm thinking of a few other vandals similar to MG in having a large IP pool from which to vandalise and nothing can be done about them either. Hm, I'll keep the list upto date (which I reckon MG keeps as a nice trophy) but I only ever spot him when he strays into my watched articles so you might miss a few. <font color="#94887C">]</font> <font color="#D2CDC6">]</font> 09:27, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi, MG. I got your e-mail and I'd like to thank you and Treelo for recognizing my efforts. I guess I misunderstood your message; I thought I was being linked with MG! :) Anyway, it was I who'd contacted his mom under my original "Lucky 6.9" username. An early sock was named after his mom's e-mail account and I took a chance on trying to make contact since he was becoming so prolific so quickly. She's the one who told me about him. I remember her telling me that she monitored his computer use and made sure that he stayed off of chat rooms and such so that no one could take advantage of him; I'm glad she doesn't view Misplaced Pages as a threat! I answered back, explaining the severity of his actions over here but I never heard from her again. That e-mail address was from Road Runner Cable in San Diego; another was an e-mail address for an account with Cox Cable, a major provider in San Diego. They even sponsor the sports arena at SDSU. I agree he's no Grawp. That lunacy is perpetuated by bored teenagers who stumble on the ED entry, come here and play copycat. Unless ED puts a stop to it (which they won't), the "whack-a-Hagger" will simply continue until they get tired of it. As for me, I kind of got tired of the game myself, started lashing out at those responsible and getting my own butt chewed out for a lack of civility. Anyway, thanks again for the recognition. It's hard to stay away, but I'm trying. :) Later. --] (]) 14:49, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi Gogo Dodo,
</div>

] '''Guideline and policy news'''
I'm writing with regards to the Oxford Martial Arts Academy. I think OMAA is significant in the following ways:
* ] of the ] has commenced to improve and refine the proposals passed in ].
- this is the first academy in Oxford offering a variety of martial arts training
- OMAA has the ONLY professional ring in Oxford. I've been there myself and the ring is really something that Oxford needs.
- OMAA's instructors have international standing - see Des Brackett and Luciano Pereira.
- OMAA works closely with the community (Oxford Council and the Youth Justice Board, of which I am a member)to try to get kids off the streets and therefore reduce crime rates in Oxford
- OMAA can best be described as a social enterprise, and this is the first time (to my knowledge; and I've been working in the industry for a very long time) that a martial arts academy concentrates alot of time and effort in community work. I do, however, really think you should keep the page up and not delete it.

Just wondering why you deleted Strike the Choir's article. I, being a fan, believe they deserve their own article as they are as big as they are. They play regularly with bands such as Fear Before the March of Flames, and The Number Twelve Looks Like You. Their CD was recorded by Tyler Orr and Cody Bonnette (of As Cities Burn) and they're notable for their mathematical time signatures mixed with the screamo genre. What is not important about any of that?

Hello, Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this ''''''.
Thanks for the message. I did edit it one more time. I hope that now I am just mentioning facts. If you would like me to provide you such information from Shia's books I will be more than glad to do that.

forget it, i don't care now, i'm not going to bother trying to contribute. my first attempt at participating was to edit someone else's entry and as i was doing it it was deleted. there are very credible authors who have written about her role in bringing justice to the Follieri fraud but instead of offering help my first attempt was met with a speedy deletion. So clearly there is no interest in contributors who aren't an administrator, it's an encyclopedia dictatorship apparently and you deem what the importance is. She is the whistle blower obviously and is even noted as such in the Yucaipa lawsuit against Follieri. It's all information readily available and easily verifiable. == User:HorseGirl070605 ==

I've been concerned about this user for some time, know you've had a run in with her in the past so lets' get down to the issues at hand. This user seems to have an issue with co-operation and has had spates of adding original research and for whatever reason adding the same phrase to various articles. Several times during her tenure here she's blanked her talkpage anytime someone told her something she didn't like or was given warnings. That in itself is not bad but the constant references to "I will work with others" seems to makes me think she takes ownership of all she edits and does not want to work with anyone else willingly, even going as far as asking for adminship to prevent anyone but herself editing an article . I can tell she's young but there's a history of this user being very incivil towards others and generally I don't think her attitude is something that should be tolerated even if it is a passive aggressive stance she's taken. Talk to her if you like but she's very unresponsive to others and I have no idea how much traction you'll get out of that if any. <font color="#94887C">]</font> <font color="#D2CDC6">]</font> 11:09, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
:Back to give a little tap, two people have had to give her warnings regarding her conduct and it's been an issue since she joined in February even though she has come close to a block several times but never actually modified her editing style. Keeping out from under the radar is no excuse for making statements of ownership and even though it's not extreme vandalism or bad faith editing, I still reckon some form of admin intervention should be done given the persistence of the editor. Just keeping you aware. <font color="#94887C">]</font> <font color="#D2CDC6">]</font> 09:59, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
::Yes, I think you're right that some kind of admin intervention is going to be needed at some time. Let's see how she reacts to the latest warnings and if necessary give her a final warning should she continue. Her edits since the last warning are okay, though a bit beginner. -- ] (]) 17:27, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

As this is my first contribution, please let me know what was objectionable. As an attorney, I know the importance of footnoting, which I was trying to figure out how to do. I was simply trying to add recent facts about a newly national public figure - information that is not normally reported on a national level, only regional. I know this gentleman's page was shut down for apparent vandalism, but I am simply trying to add relevant and recent facts that would be of interest to any football fan. If my tone was inappropriate, just let me know. The basic comments were facts - not a rambling venting of a sports fan. I sent this last night to the IRCAC page:
<div style="flex: 1 0 20em">
"Hi. I am so sorry. I made a mistake trying to update and correct. Now I have read all the pertinent information and I think I understand. I have been a long time fan, following the career of actress Juliet Landau. I had the pleasure of working with her as an extra on a Miss Juliet Production. I thought in saying I worked with her and giving the production company email, you would know that the info was accurate. When that backfired, I emailed from my personal email, explaining that I was a fan. I wrote the bio wanting there to be an appropriate page for Ms. Landau, reflecting the work she has done and with accurate facts."
]
I got a nice response from REDVERS, saying to do all the editing from Mjpbp and to abandon the Ircac account.
I have now read all of your comments and instructions... I am sorry for trying to sound official initially ( I thought if I sounded official, you would know the info was correct) and for creating confusion. I don't think I edited it correctly either, according to your procedures.
It is a good thing I didn't update the James Marsters page at the same time, as I was planning...
I'd appreciate if you could let me know what to do and how to proceed.
Thank you so much for your time!
Mjpbp (my name is Brijana, by the way)
P.S. The updated info for Juliet Landau was based on the two reference articles I included... If Magazine and Backstage West.
I look forward to your response!

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:13, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

  • The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions.
