Hi, here's my talk page. Feel free to put anything you want here. If it's here, then you can assume that I've seen it. It's my policy not to delete mostly any messages here, but please don't vandalize this page. I '''will''' revert obvious vandalism that obstructs other people's view of my page. Thanks in advance for leaving a message! The reason for this policy is that I believe comments on this page- even if it's an attack against me- offer insight into what other user's think of me.

(Archives: ], ])
<s>This page has never been archived. For your reading pleasure, I don't plan to archive it.</s> Scratch that, this page is getting huge. I will blank every 100 comments, with a link to each archival copy (I want to preserve the diffs that I've often use as 'evidence').
----

== Can you please help ?==
I reserve the right to make ''slight'' modifications to people's comments, providing that it doesn't change the meaning. I promise not to change the body of people's text, but I may sign it for them if they forgot (I'll put it in , and make a note of it somewhere). I also might move comments, or add titles to people's comments if they didn't do it themselves. Whatever I decide to change, will be an obvious modification, usually denoted by . Signing under somebody else's name '''will not be tolerated.''' Do so, and your comment will be deleted '''without consideration'''.
Hi Faaraz! I found you through ].
I was wondering if you'd mind lending me a helping hand with ] article . On August 10 an unknown person (no signature) marked it for deletion. Then ] conducted a good faith google search for “international institute of management” and it did not return a top result. – Which led him to support the deletion marking. Two other users followed saying that the website was not notable and the institute claims non-verifiable international connections. However, I have conducted a detailed research on IIM website, including IIM research section, press-releases, events and photos, as well as other independent websites and provided evidence of notability and verifiable references. However, my concern is that I’m only one vote against 4 vote and I do not know if any of them will change their mind (human nature!). Therefore, I kindly ask you to verify the links provided in the http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/International_Institute_of_Management and help verify the notability. I’m not asking for anything less than an ethical vote. I’m willing to return the favor and review a similar article.]

== VfD votes in the Template namespace ==
Regardless of whether somebody has vandalized this page, attacked me personally, etc., I will deal with vandalism on THIS page on a case-by-case basis. On the other hand, reverting vandalism on my userpage would be much appreciated, and I have no problems with that. My personal policy is not to delete anything unless it obstructs other people's view of this page. I believe that messages on this page- inflammatory or not- give people potentially valuable insight on the type of contributor I am on Misplaced Pages.

I've been deleting VfD votes out of the template namespace... I saw back in April, you said to hold off on this... but since seem to be any problems, I'm going ahead and deleting them. --] ] 08:58, 13 October 2005 (UTC)I do not know how to uswe this site, and my stupid friend just edited the topic and got me in trouble. I told him to stop but he wouldn't (i do not know how to contact you??)
This page was reverted '''once'''. I didn't see any reasonable way of preserving the message, and the user modified other people's comments.

====
While the paladin press page might have been copyrighted I just want to say that the articles on American Dragon and Isometric exercises were not found at the sites you specified. And I think that to an extent the widespread use of those articles across the internet is proof that there is no copyright. If you run a search of the text I posted you eill find it on multiple sites. And finally while I apoligize if I violated any copyrights my only intention was to get the articles started so others could edit them.--] 23:27, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Fuck you you fucking piece of shit.

] 20:47, 7 March 2006 (UTC) boss playa
I also want to add that I believe all three of my articles are important enough to deserve to be in wikipedia one being a major printg press that was invovled in a major legal battle, the other an animated television series on a major network, and the third an important exercise use by one of the most famous exercising systems of all time Dynamic Tension by Charles atlas. For those reasons i think even if my information is copyrighted you should at least leave a small stub to start off those articles.--] 23:38, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)

hey:
When I said that I didn's copy them from the sites you specified what I meant was that they were taken from sites other than the ones you mentioned. Which means that these passages are pretty widespread across the internet especial the isometric exercise article which is word for world in a huge amount of websites.--] 00:06, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for contacting me. As you've noted, this form of severe vandalism and reverse denial of service has gone on long enough, and it is high time we escalate this to the IT department at Bar-Ilan. If you look on his Talk: page, you'll note he was warned about this already back on December 16, 2004, so it's not like he doesn't know. As well, rather than being contrite, or suggesting he wouldn't do it again, he characterized his reverts as removing "vandalism", when he was clearly involved in an edit war. Hello Frazzydee. I wanted to inform you that we have created a new policy at en.wikibooks that asks all admins who have been inactive for a year or more to give up their admin privledges. This is not a punishment of any sort, so I hope you don't take offense to this. The idea behind this policy is that people who are not using the tools could kindly return them. ==Hey, regarding Template:Uncyclopedia==
] 01:55, 2005 Jan 26 (UTC)
I'm here to ask if you were behind ], and if so, why? I am the original creator of the template, and no one complained at the time when I asked if I could create it. I think it brings "interwikiness" among articles, as well as showing the fun side of things, after all Wp is considered by many to be too "dry", and a link at the bottom of articles showing alternative versions for parody reasons would in my opinion improve the Misplaced Pages experience, as well as prevent some vandalism by "smart-asses".

I thereby ask that that template may be recreated again. It took me a lot of work to create it and I have to confess, I was bold in doing so, but that's what people expect from editors, is it not?
==WP:AN/Navbox==

==Reference List==
Hi: Stumbled across the reference/cite check talk by accident. I'm new. Haven't contributed much; latest was ] Zosodada reverted & ripped me to shreds in less than 72 hours. I'm still perspiring, but that article looks nth degree encyclopedic now. I had to dig like a dog - my literary cites weren't convincing. Since I also spend a lot of time on the Ref Desk, I started my own list by "web farming" & categorizing: Arts; Business; News; Law; Inflation calculators - everything I can find. I just started; tedious checking links & determining they're useful. Something I tossed 2 days ago I needed the next. Is this helpful for your project, or a wasted effort? Naturally, I didn't set the page up right: Allie/Wikipedia Reference Desk. --] 23:59, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)
:Sorry that the project lost momentum. Noticed that there is a Category:Reference & Category:Sources currently existing. many of my links overlap; but also found many that aren't on the list- ArtLex one example of a compendium that is valuable for fact checking. Also bumped into an error on ballet page - it's not "America Ballet Co." - it's "American Ballet Co." - and it's a video dictionary. Guess I should request a speedy delete of my page, then? --] 13:41, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading ''']'''. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the ] status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{Tl|GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the ]. If you believe the media meets the criteria at ], use a tag such as {{tlp|non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at ]. See ] for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Hi: Are you familiar with citing reference sourcework? I just made my 1st edit change, and my information contradicts what's in the article on Sylvester Graham. How do I check this? My reference is pretty good, I think: It's an Oxford Companion Encyclopedia. Also, I would be very interested to know what kinds of guidelines you use for plagiarism? Is listing a reference book enough? This is a sticky wicket with me, and I am very particular about this. Thank you, new user Otto. --] 21:56, 17 Feb 2005 (UTC)

<!-- REMOVED. page-litter, looks spammy. kept in comments for historical purposes
->Thanks! Appreciated all those links & your double-check; it was very thoughtful, as it appears you are a busy person. I like the way you footnoted, but unfortunately, it's not on my special pages link.
->You shouldn't have to do my work for me...
->Ergo, my second question: Is there a magic place in the Misplaced Pages where I can read up & find out about citations, how to footnote, and how not to become Template:Unreferenced? The Manual of Style doesn't say ''how'' (Hot dang! ''Italics!'') or ''where'' to put refs in the article you're working on?!?! It seems silly to have to double-check without them.
->What do you do? Look for well-polished writing and then think, hmmm...I'd better check this? That sounds like a double-negative to me. Then only sloppy, careless writing is rewarded, yet someone who does a lot of research and spends the effort to write an excellent piece (say, offline in Word) would be suspect, because a whole page suddenly appeared out of the blue. Hmph.
->I did stumble across the page on Misplaced Pages where you were determining what to do about referencing. Are you the coordinator, and may I become involved? or am I too new?
->Thank you for your help once again, and I don't mean to take up too much of your time with my questions. --] 02:40, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC) I'm not formatting this the right way, am I? Sorry. Off to the sandbox now.

I suspect that - because of the common references to indie rock bands and the amount of IP accounts - that the vandalism all came from one music forum or another, who were picking an easy target to create some sort "masterpiece" of bad humor. ]]<small>]</small> 19:54, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
* One of the people involved - Kira-182!, the only one with a username - just sent me a message saying that s/he would link me to the thread where they planned everything (the only reason they sent it to me and not you is that I put a vandalism4 warning on most of the vandals' user talk. The album is (deservedly) hated by critics and many music fans (it is one of the lowest rated albums on ], where it maintains a 0.83/5.00 average rating). There is no reason to vandalise a page which already includes fragments from negative professional reviews which are already very humorous (of course as I said before, there's no reason to vandalise Misplaced Pages ''period''). ]]<small>]</small> 21:25, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

::Thanks for your positive reaction above -- I very rarely slap people on the wrist and this is actually the first time I've done it on WP to a stranger. ::My concern is that while certainly you both meant to be funny, calling someone by a name that's not their own can be a form of bullying. Here on WP, where many of our users have English as a second or third language, it's likely to be misinterpreted. The fact is, I may have misinterpreted it -- I don't have a clue why you picked "Jamie", except that it's not gender specific. Jokes that would be utterly routine banter among friends often fall flat with people from other cultures or languages.
I have struck my charge of Orwellian revisionism; ''just because they're out to get you doesn't mean you're not paranoid.'' At the time I posted several copies of this around the project, I actually did fear that someone would systematically delete it without a trace.

::I also reacted -- maybe overreacted -- to your both speaking of the User on his/her own talk page in the third person. It's clumsy, but better, I think, to say "User:174.3.123.220" and "you" rather than "this user".
You may wish to delete the box itself and replace with a link to ]. I will ''not'' consider that revisionism.&mdash; ]]] 23:44, 2005 Apr 11 (UTC)

::I don't know policy here -- you're the long time admin, Frazzydee -- can we just wipe out everything on User:174.3.123.220's talk page except maybe the first three paragraphs of the section April 2010 and start him/her over with a new, personal, welcome note? '''Who are we? Why are we here?''' I'm not speaking of the entire project or our grand mission, only of the small group of regulars who work within TfD. What are we doing here?

:::Also, you will notice that I only referred to 174.3.123.220 in the third person in the first part of my second comment, which was meant as a joke. When addressing him/her, I did use the word "you", for what it's worth. Similar with donmike10's comment– he was addressing me so said "him/her" instead of "you". And (s)he is located in Calgary, so I don't think that misinterpretation because of language facilities is likely. Anyways, I'm sorry that my failed attempt at humour was so badly executed. -]|] 16:51, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Each one of us will have a different answer to that question; so to guide us in our efforts, we have a written process. Process should not act as a straitjacket, but as a way for us to agree to respect each other's differing views.

::::Hey, you've been an admin for a long time, so you have to be fundamentally a good person with the patience of Job -- I didn't and don't question your good intentions, just your execution, which is now behind us. My search told me the IP address was in Edmonton, but that's beside the point -- he/she might have been anywhere.... It's too bad there's further piling on from 217.39.48.213, which you've commented on on the user page. I wish there were some way to phone the person and say, "Hey, it usually isn't this way -- it's really a pretty good place."
If all of us had the same exact opinion on each template, there would be no need for the ] page -- not in its present form, at any rate. We would each individually mow down templates we found insupportable, and log the deletions. ''No need'' for debate, ''no need'' for discussion. And since we would all be in perfect agreement, we would have strong justification for refusing to hear appeals from other members of WP.

::::BTW, a WHOIS will show you only the location of the head office of the ISP. Use something like to find the actual location of an IP address. A WHOIS on mine shows New Jersey, but the IP locater shows me correctly in Massachusetts.
'''But it is not so.''' I think {{tl|widget}} should stay and {{tl|blivet}} should go; ] thinks {widget} should go and {blivet} stay. Sometimes, we can discuss these issues and find a meeting ground. Maybe I can accept some changes to {widget}, with which El Supremo can tolerate its continued presence. But what do we do when after a week of wrangling, I still say "Widgets forever!" and El Supremo grunts, "Blivets or death!" -- what then?

::::Regards, <strong>Jim</strong> - ] (] • ]) 20:57, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Our process specifies that after seven days on TfD, if consensus is not reached, the nominated template is free to go -- the matter is over. We also say that a template should not be renominated for a month, if then. No good purpose is served by chewing old bones.

Recently, the nominated template {{tl|divbox}} came to the end of its seven-day roasting. There was considerable controversy, a more or less even split of opinions (4 delete to 3 keep), and certainly nothing approaching consensus, or even overwhelming majority. Our process says {divbox} goes free, and that's the end of the matter -- at least, the end for this month. Those determined to keep a dog in the fight may do so on ].

== Living Videotext ==
Shortly after I removed the offending listing and carefully began to archive all its debate -- not merely the debate within the TfD workflow, but wherever I could find a scrap of it -- a certain user, without discussion of any kind so far as I know, restored {divbox} to the TfD page '''and''' simultaneously juggled the entire contents of the page, including our written process guidelines. '''Am I the only one in this project who finds this a bit questionable?'''

No problem. Like your text better, so I've left it as is. Just editing some links a bit to make them hit other articles directly instead of redirecting. ] (]) 01:52, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

: I have to disclose that it was I who wrote the text of this section, as part of a complete cleanup of the page, including explicit workflow process. The cleanup stood unchallenged througout the recent heated debate over {divbox} -- nobody found it offensive or even felt a need to correct my misspelling of "consensus" -- but now that it permits {divbox} release from jail, it must '''all''' be destroyed. (!?)

Thanks for the message.
: This process, too, is subject to change -- but have we come to the point where we are permitted to change our guidelines for how we work ''at the same time as'' we cite our changes to process as justification for what we do?

Sorry I didn't reply: On wikipedia, when you try to make conversation with another user, and in so doing, invest time in a relationship, it becomes tedious when the other person doesn't reciprocate.
If we have come to the point where everything is ''up for grabs'', please let me know, and I will start work on Jimbo's home page, VfD, CfD, RfC, RfA, and all the other pages which '''manage the way we manage''' the work we do. If I don't need to discuss any of my changes before making them, then why should I? And if someone disagrees with me, why should I not alter existing process to make his disagreement '''illegal'''?

But I like the name Jamie, and feel free to call me Jamie:-)
If we have '''not''' come to that point, and we still cling to shreds of social fabric, then I ask you to take whatever action you think necessary to hold those shreds together, and allow me to return to the work I do best -- making things that work for us all. Dear Frazzydee,
Hi there! It looked historical to me because it seemed like nobody was using it. I was unaware of the list info page you mentioned. But of course I may be wrong, and if I am please remove the tag. Yours, ]]] 07:40, May 31, 2005 (UTC)

My name is Jonathan Obar ], I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community], where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
I was wondering why a link to my site was removed from the Liverpool Page.
* Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
* All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
* All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
* The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Hi {{BASEPAGENAME}}.
== Grasshopper Page ==

A new user group, ], has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at ]. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
Why was the photo gallery on the ] page removed? I can see no reason why the photos on the old page () shouldn't be included in the new version. That photo from fotoclipart.com is useless compared to the old ones. --] 07:26, Jun 21, 2005 (UTC)

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available ] but very often a friendly custom message works best.

Saw you leaving a question about that in Kate’s discussion page — okay, that was ages ago, anyway — so here’s the answer: Misplaced Pages:EN isn’t in UTF-8 still, because there are supposedly software out there which would break it. I’m sure there are, but all the Unicode Wikis don’t seem to suffer such degradation. The last graphical browser I know didn’t work well with Unicode is Netscape 4, and I doubt there are significant amounts of people using it. Much more is the hassle of watching out what we can put in an article title (no &#337; and &#369; here in English wikipedia, for example: ]), and hunting for all kinds of &amp;#nnnn; codes in the text when editing an article with ] characters in them for example.

I feel terrible for not seeing this until now, but thank you so much for the barnstar that you awarded me. Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are ] to "have strong passwords and ]." We have ] our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. == How we will see unregistered users ==

<section begin=content/>
Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin '''will still be able to access the IP'''. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on ] to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can ]. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can ] to ].

Thank you.

Can you please help ?

Hi Faaraz! I found you through Misplaced Pages: WikiProject Fact and Reference Check. I was wondering if you'd mind lending me a helping hand with International Institute of Management article . On August 10 an unknown person (no signature) marked it for deletion. Then —Ben FrantzDale conducted a good faith google search for “international institute of management” and it did not return a top result. I’m willing to return the favor and review a similar article.Miro.gal

Your vfd

Hello I know you nominated the Pasig City stampede page for deletion but might have forgot that is a current event in which many people died and hundreds got injured so read my reasons for why it can't be merged on the vfd page. Articles on the main page shouldn't be nominated for deletion but you might have not heard about it in the news. It's in the headlines of almost all Canadian tv now too. --a.n.o.n.y.m 22:16, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Indefinite block of Bar-Ilan

Thanks for contacting me. As you've noted, this form of severe vandalism and reverse denial of service has gone on long enough, and it is high time we escalate this to the IT department at Bar-Ilan. Unfortunately, the only hope of shutting this vandal down is by escalating the problem so that it gets noticed by a faculty member or good faith contributor. They wanted attention, and now they've got it. If you have any further questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact me on my talk page or via email. b:WB:RFA

If you have any questions about this, please let me know on my wikibooks talk page: b:User talk:Whiteknight. --User:Wknight8111 (WB:Whiteknight) 17:55, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey, regarding Template:Uncyclopedia

I'm here to ask if you were behind its deletion, and if so, why? I am the original creator of the template, and no one complained at the time when I asked if I could create it. I think it brings "interwikiness" among articles, as well as showing the fun side of things, after all Wp is considered by many to be too "dry", and a link at the bottom of articles showing alternative versions for parody reasons would in my opinion improve the Misplaced Pages experience, as well as prevent some vandalism by "smart-asses".

I thereby ask that that template may be recreated again. It took me a lot of work to create it and I have to confess, I was bold in doing so, but that's what people expect from editors, is it not?

I can't figure very well the deletion log, so I'm not even sure if it was you who deleted it originally. If not, could you please inform the original admin of my position? Or if you point me in the right track, I'll do it myself.--Ivo Emanuel Gonçalves/Saoshyant 09:42, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: Thanks!

Hi, Frazzy - great to hear from you! I'm glad to be able to help. :) Really, I have my hands very full already as the coordinator of the Molecular and Cellular Biology Project, but a few of us over there were thinking that it would be a shame to see a project with such potential languish, so I decided to put some effort into getting it back up. If you have any time, I could really use some help, even if it's just tagging articles with a {{Wikiproject Viruses}} template. Cheers! – ClockworkSoul 06:52, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Image:Carole James.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Carole James.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 03:47, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Sure, I'd love to assist. Unfortunately, there is no proper way to extract data from a webpage without anchors to determine where the data is. In cases where changes often occur, It is best to manually approve the actions of a program. So, given this, I'd still like to help you. Please provide details to me via email, IRC, or my talk page. -- Jmax- 20:54, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

It would be very easy to automate this process, as the SMTP protocol is quite simple, and there are quite a few Perl modules for this purpose. Go ahead and email me the source of the script, and I'll see what I can do. -- Jmax- 06:53, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Bookmooch logo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Bookmooch logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

Isaac Roberts

Hi, an article you wrote a long time ago "Roberts's exact birth date is disputed, and different biographies about him specify different dates." But looking at the url you give in this article ( section Obituary of Isaac Roberts) all bio except the one from the Proceedings of the Royal Society give January 27 as birth date. I found a scan of the proceedings and the date is really 27 not 17 as stated in the transcription of the RS obituary, unless there is other independant source which gave 17, it look like a transcription error rather a disputed date. phe 04:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Image source problem with Image:Misplaced Pages-banner0002.png

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Misplaced Pages-banner0002.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Misplaced Pages:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:27, 3 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot 18:27, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Photoret

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Photoret, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Frazzydee! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 14 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

I'm Not a Fan, But the Kids Like It!

I suspect that - because of the common references to indie rock bands and the amount of IP accounts - that the vandalism all came from one music forum or another, who were picking an easy target to create some sort "masterpiece" of bad humor. Doc StrangeLogbook 19:54, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

  • One of the people involved - Kira-182!, the only one with a username - just sent me a message saying that s/he would link me to the thread where they planned everything (the only reason they sent it to me and not you is that I put a vandalism4 warning on most of the vandals' user talk. I do not trust this. I am pretty convinced that the whole thing was planned by 4chan's /mu/ board (due to the continuous referencing of it during the vandalism) anyway. If you so chose you contact Kira-182! yourself (I wouldn't know exactly what help it would be). Doc StrangeLogbook 20:09, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

User talk:174.3.123.220

You've been around WP a lot longer than me, so I'm a little reluctant to make this comment, but I'm troubled by your making fun off this newbie. It comes very close to a personal attack on a newbie. As I noted there, while changing {{otheruses4}} to {{about}} is a strange use of time, it's actually an improvement to the article in question.

You don't have e-mail posted, so I can't make this a private note, but feel free to delete it if you wish. Jim - Jameslwoodward (talkcontribs) 23:34, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

No worries, of course a public note is fine since every contribution I make is public anyways.
I was really surprised to see your message, as I was not intending to make fun of the user in any way at all. I originally contacted him because I noticed he was getting warnings about vandalism when all his changes were positive, and never vandalized even once– this was to thank him for his contributions, welcome him to wikipedia, and apologize for the accusations of vandalism that others had made.
Although my second comment was intended as a friendly note, I can see how it might be interpreted otherwise. When I said, "puts much effort into something that only he really understands", I meant, "other people don't see it as something very important, but he does". Re-reading it, I can see your issue with it, but when I said that only he thinks it's important, I didn't mean that it isn't important, just that the other two users did not see it as such. Perhaps that's not how the comment reads, but it's what I meant.
So thanks for your note. Had I not read that comment again with a more objective eye, in light of what you said, I really wouldn't have imagined it to be construed as anything other than a mildly funny (or perhaps not funny at all) joke. -Frazzydee| 00:13, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your positive reaction above -- I very rarely slap people on the wrist and this is actually the first time I've done it on WP to a stranger. I worry about this sort of thing because my son, a technical writer who would have been an asset to WP, had a bad first experience and hasn't edited since. It seemed to me that User:174.3.123.220 got a raw deal, first from User:Zhang He (which you were the first to put down), and then from your joke, which Donmike10 joined.
My concern is that while certainly you both meant to be funny, calling someone by a name that's not their own can be a form of bullying.
I also reacted -- maybe overreacted -- to your both speaking of the User on his/her own talk page in the third person. It's clumsy, but better, I think, to say "User:174.3.123.220" and "you" rather than "this user".
I don't know policy here -- you're the long time admin, Frazzydee -- can we just wipe out everything on User:174.3.123.220's talk page except maybe the first three paragraphs of the section April 2010 and start him/her over with a new, personal, welcome note? Or something like that? I leave it to your judgment.... Jim - Jameslwoodward (talkcontribs) 11:10, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
I don't think it would be appropriate for me to wipe out another user's talk page, especially if I believe I have erred. User:174.3.123.220 can always wipe it himself, but I've apologized on the talk page in any case. -Frazzydee| 12:45, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Also, you will notice that I only referred to 174.3.123.220 in the third person in the first part of my second comment, which was meant as a joke. -Frazzydee| 16:51, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Hey, you've been an admin for a long time, so you have to be fundamentally a good person with the patience of Job -- I didn't and don't question your good intentions, just your execution, which is now behind us.
BTW, a WHOIS will show you only the location of the head office of the ISP. Use something like this to find the actual location of an IP address. A WHOIS on mine shows New Jersey, but the IP locater shows me correctly in Massachusetts.
Regards, Jim - Jameslwoodward (talkcontribs) 20:57, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Right, thanks for the correction. And by the way, my having been an admin for a long time doesn't necessarily mean that I know what I'm doing, and I do appreciate you bringing any oversights to my attention. I'm sure anybody else would feel the same. You shouldn't feel reluctant to address any potential issues with anybody- regardless of how long they've been on wikipedia. After all, there is no cabal (or at least I haven't been invited to it yet!) ;) -Frazzydee| 21:03, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Sorry I didn't reply: On wikipedia, when you try to make conversation with another user, and in so doing, invest time in a relationship, it becomes tedious when the other person doesn't reciprocate.

Deltions otherususes4`

Currently the template is a redirect. Would it be just as good to submit it at tfd?174.3.123.220 (talk) 09:00, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

I will need an administrator to complete the tfd or rfd process:-)174.3.123.220 (talk) 09:27, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

I think the attitude would be that it causes no harm so why not keep it as a redirect? Usually tfd's are successful when the template (content) is not needed. Old templates are typically kept as a redirect as long as they're still in use. You can try nominating if you want.
Instead, if you're serious about this, I would recommend marking the template as deprecated. See Template:Tdeprecated. I don't think it would be contentious, considering it's already been decided that the name should change.
When the template becomes orphaned & deprecated it may be a criteria for speedy deletion, see Misplaced Pages:Deprecated and orphaned templates. In any case, it will put editors on notice that they should be using {{about}} instead. Actually getting it to an orphaned state (not used by any articles) might be a problem.
As I mentioned before, User:Tim1357 wrote a bot that orphans templates which should make your life easier. See here: Wikipedia_talk:Templates_for_discussion#TFD_Helper_bot. Not sure if it's still running, but you can ask. Probably best to ask to run the bot when it's clear there are no objections- leave the orphaned notice up there for a couple weeks and leave a note on the template talk page, creator's talk page, and maybe talk pages for other frequent editors.
By the way, even if the bot isn't running, a template marked as orphaned should attract other editors to help you out.
Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions or need help.
Frazzydee| 09:53, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
I would still need an administrator to mark the redirect as deprecated. It is only editable by admins.174.3.123.220 (talk) 10:05, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
Sure, let's try to file a tfd. Could you help me with that? Thanks in advance.174.3.123.220 (talk) 10:11, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
If you want to nominate for deletion, please nominate at WP:TFD first and then I'll put the notice up. But I would try the bot route first as long as there is consensus to do so, see Tim's response below. By the way, I didn't even notice that the template was protected, sorry :$ -Frazzydee| 23:17, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Tweeking Required?

Doesn't seem to work... What's wrong?174.3.123.220 (talk) 11:51, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Well, I think split-multiple doesn't force specify a talk page. I am not sure, but I think that when this is not specified, they just discuss splitting on the main article. So for example, when say Science has a split-multiple proposal into Chemistry and Physics (let's say that Science has grown so much again that chemistry information and physics information is included in the Science article, that someone proposed to split it, but the editor means to move the new information to the Chem and Physics article so that Science is not as unfocused), this discussion is usually occurs on Science, *if the talk page is not specified*.174.3.123.220 (talk) 19:45, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm not sure. But I can imagine it might not be looked upon favourably if you nominated on one forum, got a decision you didn't like, and nominated it again as soon as discussion ended.
Why did you list it on WP:RFD and not WP:TFD? A similar template was deleted via TFD a couple months back for very similar reasons (Misplaced Pages:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2010_February_13#Template:Otheruses1), so maybe the audience is different. -Frazzydee| 16:43, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

Snake skeleton pictures

Joints of the snake skull I did not manage to download. I presumed that it was not a Commons picture. Perhaps this could have been my fault? LouisBB (talk) 22:18, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I have re-uploaded it to the commons for you: http://commons.wikimedia.org/File:Snake_skull_joints_lateral_view.jpeg. -Frazzydee| 05:24, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Hello Frazzydee, The picture is now on the Hungarian WP, and a hu version has also appeared in the Commons under the same title, with some of the text translated relating to the figure, without captions (but there were no captions with this figure). However, because a source is not given (and some other details also missing) a threat appeared, that without description within a week the picture might be removed. I have noticed however, that the same note is also present with the English version without the threatening note. Can you provide a source please? Regards LouisBB (talk) 16:45, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
The source is indicated on the commons image page: "This file has been (or is hereby) released into the public domain by its author, Mokele at the English Misplaced Pages project." Is this insufficient at the Hungarian WP? -Frazzydee| 02:42, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Michael Voith

The article Michael Voith has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable. Fails to meet biography guidelines

While all contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ⋙–Berean–Hunter—► ((⊕)) 05:26, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Frazzydee,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talkcontribs) 23:28, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Misplaced Pages:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Frazzydee. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Frazzydee.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Information icon Established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have not made any edits or logged actions in the preceding twelve months. Because you have been inactive, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next month.

Inactive administrators are encouraged to rejoin the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to rejoin the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.

Thank you for your past contributions to the project. — JJMC89 bot 00:03, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

ArbCom 2019 special circular

Icon of a white exclamation mark within a black triangle
Administrators must secure their accounts

The Arbitration Committee may require a new RfA if your account is compromised.

View additional information

Why have I received this message?
All administrators are receiving it.
What prompted you to send this message?
Recently, several Misplaced Pages admin accounts were compromised. The admin accounts were desysopped on an emergency basis. In the past, the Committee often resysopped admin accounts as a matter of course once the admin was back in control of their account. The committee has updated its guidelines. Admins may now be required to undergo a fresh Request for Adminship (RfA) after losing control of their account.
What do I need to do?
Only to follow the instructions in this message.
  1. Check that your password is unique (not reused across sites).
  2. Check that your password is strong (not simple or guessable).
  3. Enable Two-factor authentication (2FA), if you can, to create a second hurdle for attackers.
How can I find out more about two-factor authentication (2FA)?
You can find out more about 2FA at m:2FA.

This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:17, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for the information. -Frazzydee| 18:55, 27 September 2022 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for the update, and for informing us of the policy. -Frazzydee| 18:54, 27 September 2022 (UTC)

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:05, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

New administrator activity requirement

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
