== Thank you to DoubleBlue from Cedarview Middle School ==
I'd just like to give a long-overdue thanks to you for editing the Cedarview Middle School page and saving it from almost-certain doom. I was the one who had the original edit with parts like "a bright blue roof" and the unsourced entries. That said, I was also the one who CREATED the world record attempt, so I suppose I could have claimed to be an expert. However, I was 13 at the time and with no sense of Wiki-community I just threw paint at the page. This in turn led to its attempted deletion, which I am glad to see that you corrected.
I tried adding a link to the site ourkids.net and you removed it. Ourkids.net offers pictures and other information unavailable elsewhere. Why is there no conflict of interest deletion for the link from the competing commercial site, topprivateschools.ca?
Again, thank you DoubleBlue.
It is obvious that users find our site useful as they arrive from all different sources, including wikipedia, and we offer them the opportunity to make contact with a representative from the school.

**I have also commented on ]. I appreciate your comments about notability. I would be more than happy to provide adequate reliable sources for a fair and balanced article but Bearcat has blocked my access to the original article on Heather Carter. I must admit that I am quite a novice here and I am uncomfortable with Bearcat's bullying. Heather Carter's article has been on Misplaced Pages since February, 2007, and, I thought, had been approved for content by IrishGuy. Without warning, Bearcat redirected the article with a comment to the effect that unelected candidates were unworthy of an article. I undid his redirection. He threatened me. Later Mr. No Funny Nickname also undid the redirection. And, again, I was threatened. I do not know Mr. No Funny Nickname nor have I collaborated with him prior to this incident. I also object the Bearcat's involvement in editing Liberal party candidate's articles. He is a strong supporter of the NDP and as such I feel he should have the sense to recuse himself. Your help and guidance in helping to resolve these issues with Heather Carter's article would be very much appreciated. <small>—Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) 04:25, 23 August 2008 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Saw you moved western alienation to "mid Importance" Well I don't dispute the move, it wasn't really necessary, the only reason I commented was because it seemed "low" priority for western alienation in a canadian wiki project, basically summed up the crux of western alienation, ie that our interests are treated as low priority. ] (]) 02:53, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

==Football infobox== | |||
I know we've had some conflicts about the use of ] on CFL player articles, and I was wondering if there was anything that could be done to the template that would satisfy you to the point where we might be able to use it for both NFL and CFL players. I believe in the past you've said it was very "NFL-centric" or something to that effect, and you're right. However, I don't think there are any such features that cannot be altered. For one, I think we can change the NFL debut section to say "Professional debut" so that it could be used for any league, no matter where a guy started. We can also make CFL stat sections and a CFL link that will show up ''in addition'' to an NFL one if we want, instead of being replaced by the NFL one. Just let me know if this is a something we can work on. Either way, I am going to do some work on the template to make it more league-neutral. Despite its name, I always intended it to be usable for any league.►''']''''']'' 22:29, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
:Well actually, the NFLActive one was the only one that was my idea. Banned user ] created both, but the active one was really only mine and that's the one I primarily work with since I'm focused on updating current players.
:I'm going to have ] unblock the template so I can make some of these changes. I'm going to do all the stuff I've said above, though if you have any other suggestions on changes or necessary additions to accompany other leagues, let me know.►''']''''']'' 22:49, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

==CFL== | |||
So hey, do you follow the CFL closely?►''']''''']'' 04:49, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
:Ah okay, I ask because I want to follow CFL transactions and keep their roster templates like I do the NFL ones. Sometimes when I update an NFL player's infobox/page, it's hard to find out if he's played in the CFL and if so how where and for how long. I figure if I keep up with CFL rosters too, I'll already know. So can you confirm my interpetations of the :
* IMP is import, NIP is non-import
* I guess when it says ADD under Roster, it means a guy signed to the active roster
* ADD under the Non-Active section means signed to the practice squad
* DEL under roster means removed from active
* ADD from INJURED means moved from the inactive list back to active
* EXT on INJURED means an extension on their inactive list time
* TFR to INJURED means transferred to injured from active (or maybe practice squad?)
:Do I have these all right? I still don't know how CFL rosters work exactly. And one thing I'm still unclear on is what REM UNS and REM SGD mean. Any help?
:Also, assuming I have my above points right, I'm a little confused since in the October 9 Roster section is says MTL DEL DIP Donovan ALEXANDER (DB) North Dakota. In the section below that, it says MTL ADD NIP Donovan ALEXANDER (DB) North Dakota. This indicates to me that he was moved from the active roster to the practice squad. So is the just outdated or am I wrong?►''']''''']'' 05:11, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
::Thanks for the info. I really don't know how the whole CFL roster thing works. Can you explain to me the basics, maybe the roster limits or whatever, or point me to somewhere I can find out about them? Also, what does it mean when a guy is DEL UNS? Why was he on the practice squad if he was never signed?

==Joe Bradley== | |||
Well, Canadian football is certainly a noun. And secondly, "player" is unnecessary because he's the only Joe Bradley in football at all. If there were a coach too, then it'd make sense to have player here. But he's the only one so the only distinguishing thing we need is the football.
It's like if there were two Dick Cheneys - the vice president and a horror film actor. We wouldn't need to make it "Dick Cheney (Vice President)" and "Dick Cheney (horror actor)" because they are the only Dick Cheneys here from their respective fields. We can simplify them to "Dick Cheney (politician" and "Dick Cheney (actor)."
And, when it comes to American football, we all agreed that it should say American to avoid being confused with soccer, so I think the same should apply here.►''']''''']'' 13:52, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi DoubleBlue - you wrote: ''If geo-stub is for locations only, what is the more general stub for other geography topics? I cannot find it. Also, I borrowed the wording from other country geo-stubs.''
It depends on the topic. General topographical features get topography-stub, terminology gets geo-term-stub, things that are more geological than geographical (such as earthquakes, for instance) get geology-stub or one of its subtypes, and so on. As for copying the wording from another stub, can you recall which one? :Re: Place-stub, you're right - it probably would have been... but we had about 100 geo-stubs and two place-stubs, so it was easier to change them the other way. There was talk at one time of making a more generic "geography-stub" to act as a supercat for both geo-stubs and geology-stubs, which would have solved the problems with earthquakes quite well, but it never happened (the naming would have been even more confusing). ]...''<small><font color="#008822">]</font></small>'' 21:56, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
::That's been suggested before, but there are reasons why it wouldn't work as well as it might sound. The stub types aren't ''quite'' orthogonal with the permanent categories - sometimes there are good reasons why they're different. And to help editors who are looking for stubs to expand in a particular area, we try to keep stub categories to strict size limits (imagine either having to wade through a category with 5000 stubs, or alternatively having to hunt through 20 or 30 categories with only one stub in each). It does make for more work, but it's basically the best that can be done under the circumstances. ]...''<small><font color="#008822">]</font></small>'' 22:33, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

My general reasoning is "per consensus", no more, no less. But let's break down the arguments one by one, starting with keep:
*The first keep comment wasn't really a keep comment; rather, it sounded more like a rationale to delete by pointing out its flaws.
*The second keep comment wasn't policy-grounded or guideline-grounded; we don't include things based solely on age (maybe except for living things).
The merge comments were sound, as were the delete comments. I would be more than happy to restore the content temporarily to allow you to merge into the desired place. —'''<font face="Comic Sans MS">]]</font>''' 06:06, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

== NAFTA == | |||
I agree the timeline I wrote into the lead is too detailed but what else can we do to prevent the lead section from giving the distoring notion that NAFTA was primarily the product of Clinton and Chretien rather than of Bush Sr. and Mulroney? Or do you not agree that this was primarily a Bush/Mulroney negociated deal? --] <small>(] • ])</small> 02:52, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
The actual timeline is thus:
<blockquote> | |||
* An agreement in principal was reached in August 1992
* the agreement was signed by the chief negotiators of each country in October 1992
* it was then signed by the leaders of the three countries in December 1992 (] of Canada, ] of Mexico, and ] of the United States)<ref></ref>.

This is the full story. If we think it is too much for the lead, we have to at least make sure the lead and the history section do not conflict.

: Thanks for pointing out the holes in my submission. I have noted some specific edits that pertain to directly to monarchy in Canada. There are many more, no doubt.
== G2 ANI == | |||
Hiya. My understanding of the restrictions is that they pertain to anything which touches the subject of Commonwealth monarchies. So while ] may not in and of itself be subject to 1RR under his restrictions, it becomes so as soon as he starts touching on monarchy within Canada. I think this was clarified in his most recent block, but I'm willing to be corrected if I'm wrong about the interpretation.
Bottom line, though: G2 is ''well'' aware that reversions are not acceptable methods of discourse, and he is equally well aware of what constitutes a reversion. This is why I asked for the restrictions that I did at his RfC/U: 1RR on all the articles he edits, to force him to discuss rather than edit war, and discussion restrictions to force him to engage in discussion with an open and collaborative mind focused only on the content of said discussion.
The multiple reversions at ], whether or not they are subject to his 1RR restriction (some of them seem to be, some not), are borderline edit-warring. He knows what an edit-war is, and he knows that 3RR (or indeed 1RR) is not an entitlement. And, really.. I count 5 reverts to a single article.
The civility/discussion restrictions are less open to interpretation, I think. He was incivil, and he went outside of solely discussing content. He is required to be strictly civil and to keep discussion on content only.
Personally, I think he violated the spirit of the restrictions if not the exact black-letter. And since that sort of gaming is at the root of many of the disputes with him, I feel it should be treated relatively severely. Gaming isn't okay.
I dunno. If you feel any of this needs to be quoted over there, feel free, but I won't be engaging on AN myself unless it becomes absolutely necessary.

Thank you very much for your review, DoubleBlue. Now I have one more question. Throughout Misplaced Pages, I have found numerous company profiles of software companies like DataWeb where the articles do not cite any references other than the company web site. Here are a few examples.
] -- Cites only one reference article, as does my DataWeb article.
] -- Cites only the company's quarterly report.
] -- Cites only the company web site, but has been tagged by Misplaced Pages
] -- Cites only the company web site
My question is, if I were to post the DataWeb Corporation article now, would it be removed in a few hours? Or would it just be tagged as lacking references?
What is the "statute of limitations for articles tagged as having no references? How many days, weeks, months will a tagged article stay up before it is removed? (The MetriQ article was tagged in May, 2008 but is still up.)
I ask these questions because I might be able to provide further references for the DataWeb article in the coming months. So it might work to try to post the DataWeb article on Misplaced Pages now (if it will stay up), and add those references to the article later.

True, but that's not the only reason why I redirected it. Both pages are recreated on the ] page, which is an FL, and thus are redundant. I'd rather have one really good useful page that covers all bases than one good and two so-so pages. If you insist on keeping those awards seperate, then I'll have to remove the MVP info from Vanier Cup (but I'd prefer not to, because it adds a lot to the article). -- ]] 23:57, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
:Like what could be added? I've previously searched for more info about the trophies and have not been able to find anything. And, the two pages right now basically duplicate what is at Vanier Cup, so in order for them to exist, the info there would have to be removed. -- ]] 00:07, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
To be able to add things like that, you need reliable sources, and there aren't many. I think the pages should be remerged for now, and you can try and find more to add. If you can find enough to justify a page, then they can be resplit. If you can only find a bit, it can be added to the Vanier Cup page, it would not affect the Featured status at all. -- ]] 22:53, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

As it comes to the De La Salle Oaklands page, I am on the school's adminstration & am constantly watching it against graffiti, erroneous text & information and damaging libellous content. If you look at the history of this page, I have written and contributed about 95% of it. ==Beloeil DYK==
Here are a few I can think of:
*"That the first seigneur of Beloeil participated in the 1704 raid on Deerfield."(may be a little obscure due to the whole "seigneur" part. "Lord" may be usable in a DYK. I suppose "Deerfield massacre" may be usable instead of 1704 raid.)
*"That the city of Beloeil was the site of the worst train disaster in the history of Canada." (Iffy because that's one of the very few things that the article already mentioned before I came in and rewrote it. On the plus side, this one actually has a picture to go with it.)
*"That although settlement of the city of Beloeil began in 1725, its first place of worship was built only in 1772?" (probably the least controversial one, most sensible one. "place of worship" is a little cumbersome, but the first church came even later, and the chapel was the big event)
Alternatively, there is always the "Nice view" one - as I said, the town isn't taking sides, but the local history society (ie, the only people to study this) have pretty much shot the belgian theory through and through among the many articles on their web sites.
Ah, well. I know I won't have this problem next article I'm planning on tackling (Beloeil's twin sister, Saint-Hilaire). You can't possibly NOT have a good DYK hook in a town where local archives still hold copy of a decree excommunicating a sizable portion of the town over the theft of the church bell.--] (]) 06:20, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

== CapCoord == | |||
Hey, I noticed you were adding CapCoord's to Infobox Province or territory of Canada. These coordinates are a bad idea from a semantic point of view unless you add a name= parameter to them. Otherwise proper data extraction is made impossible as there is no straight forward way to tell what the coordinates refer to. Without the name parameter they are taken to be the coordinates of the articles subject (which would be the province or territory, ''not'' the capital). --] 23:07, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
:Hi. Thanks for the note. I hadn't thought of that. I will add the name parameter to the coords. Cheers! ] <small>(]</small> 23:13, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
::Apart from that, what is the benefit of including that parameter, when the coordinate of the capital is readily available in the linked articles? Shouldn't we avoid this data duplication. I've spent quite some time on the data extraction of coordinates in Misplaced Pages. This duplication makes maintainability harder; coordinates will have to be changed in multiple places, if they are not ''exactly'' identical it will lead to redundancies in extracted data sets (such as the labels for display in the Wikiminiatlas). --] 23:19, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
::: Well, it is like that in the Infobox Country as well and it seems a good idea to me that if you are looking at an article on a province that you may be interested in seeing the coords/map of where the capital city is as well or instead of the entire province. ] <small>(]</small> 23:23, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

== czech gun laws == | |||
Hello, thank you for your comment. However i do not agree with much of what you said. First English is not my native language so sorry for any stylistic inaccuracies but i doubt that there is any english native speaker who could write this kind of article. Anyway i dont understand why repeating that czech republic has a liberal gun law is a problem since it is obvious if you compare it to other gun laws described here in wikipedia. The article is well sourced. The main source referes to the actual gun law. I understand you do not know czech but that doesnt mean the sources are not relevant. The fact that guns are not excessively popular is true. I admit that the word excessively could be replaced with something more appropriate so feel free to do it :-) but the statement is well supported by the statistics of the department of state containing the number of licenses and crimes commited with legal guns. The part "General attitudes to guns and efforts to tighten the law" describes the general background of the gun law reform in the 90s. I wish other czech people could express their opinion and im sure they would agree that this is a commonly accepted point of view and not any subjective interpretation. Also citation to the statement "illegal weapons that are beyond the control of the law" is not neccessary i think since it is obvious that illegal gun ownership is not covered by any law. <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">—Preceding ] comment added by ] (]) 20:02, 24 December 2008 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

2009 International Bowl pictures
Hi. I noticed you uploaded a couple of game action pictures from the 2009 International Bowl. I know it's been a long time, but do you remember at what point in the game those pictures were taken? I'm working on expanding the article to Good and hopefully eventually Featured article status, and was looking to move those pictures out of the gallery and into one of the individual quarter sections I wrote. –Grondemar 18:50, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, it was, indeed, a long time ago and I believe I took those pics on my crappy old phone. I checked my copies on the computer and the time stamp is of no use whatsoever. I have a couple of 2010 photos too, equally poor, that I don't believe I ever uploaded, if you are interested. Cheers for getting that article in shape! DoubleBlue (talk) 03:29, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- My long-term plan is to make the International Bowl into a featured topic, so please do! Every free picture helps! Thanks. –Grondemar 03:46, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
I'm getting ready to finally nominate 2009 International Bowl at FAC. I asked User:Fasach Nua to review the images prior to nominating the article, and s/he was concerned about File:2009 International Bowl trophy.jpg. Could you confirm that this picture was taken from the floor of the Rogers Centre during the game, and therefore in Canada? –Grondemar 17:14, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Misplaced Pages:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 03:03, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Thank you to DoubleBlue from Cedarview Middle School
I'd just like to give a long-overdue thanks to you for editing the Cedarview Middle School page and saving it from almost-certain doom. I was the one who had the original edit with parts like "a bright blue roof" and the unsourced entries. That said, I was also the one who CREATED the world record attempt, so I suppose I could have claimed to be an expert. However, I was 13 at the time and with no sense of Wiki-community I just threw paint at the page. This in turn led to its attempted deletion, which I am glad to see that you corrected.
Again, thank you DoubleBlue.

I've just started a stub on this Korean religion, and found that as Daesunjinrihoe it had been deleted because you prodded it in 2008. As you display the WikiProject Countering systemic bias tasks on your user page, I'm surprised that you didn't make more of an effort to find sources before proposing to delete it. Yes it was a poor article, but WP:POTENTIAL applies here, I think. Fences&Windows 16:06, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message and reminder. It is obviously too long ago for me to remember but I would guess from the info available that I proposed deletion since I couldn't find enough reliable sources at the time. It also appears that the article itself was largely a copyright violation so there would have been little for me to salvage at the time. Replaceable fair use File:Atlantic Schooners.png
Thanks for uploading File:Atlantic Schooners.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mtking 01:20, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Long John Baldry.jpg
A tag has been placed on File:Long John Baldry.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. New Messages based on IP
re "New message for user (IP address)" I had a "new message" pointing to this:- http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=User_talk:86.152.75.213&redirect=no
Obviously this is based on IP address and not a log-in, so it's a bit confusing to receive as it's not myself and I'm getting it worded as if it is specifically to me. Can I suggest the message read not "You have a new message (last change)." but something to the affect that it's based on IP address and may not be the person it is being displayed to... perhaps you can escalate this for me and others in the same position I'm at my mum's and won't likely spot a reply :) Cheers, david — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.152.75.213 (talk) 19:47, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

We are currently on demand for new members, the project was dying, but with your help we can revive it and make it one of the best WikiProjects. Make me sure that you'll think about this and remember cooperative works can do amazing things. Regards Dfrr (talk) 22:55, 30 April 2015 (UTC) |
ArbCom elections are now open!
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity
Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
New 10,000 Challenge for Canada
Hi, Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Misplaced Pages:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
