In 1977 Michael Parrotte formed AGV USA after being granted the exclusive rights to distribute ] helmets in the ] market by Gino Amisano, the founder of ]. The unique model of licensing the brand in different countries was the direct result of the original licensing agreement between AGV SpA and AGV Sports Group. By the early 1990s the AGVSPORT logo had replaced the AGV logo on most apparel for aesthetics reasons due to the different graphic requirements of apparel from helmets. In 1978 AGV USA, a division of Intersport, Inc. in Maryland became the official importer of AGV Helmets for the United States. In 1985 AGV SpA (AGV Helmets, Italy) assumed the distribution rights in the US t AGV Helmets and Intersport, Inc. was licensed the right to make apparel and other products excluding helmets worldwide bearing the AGV name and trademark. From 1985 to 1999 AGV Sports Group and AGV Helmets US office operated from the same offices and warehouse and utilized the name employees.

By 1990 the brand name AGVSPORT was being used on all apparel items including leather gloves, suits, jackets, boots, and textile garments and AGV Sports Group, Inc. was formed as fully owned subsidiary of Intersport, Inc. For a brief period in the early 1990’s AGV SpA owned approximately 50% of the shares of AGV Sports Group, Inc. but by 1995 full ownership reverted to Intersport, Inc.

During the 1990s AGV SpA was sold several times and went through a number of mergers and acquisitions. In 2001 AGVSPORT became a fully independent brand name belonging AGV Sports Group, Inc. a privately held American corporation. Today AGV Helmets is owned by the famed Italian apparel company Dainese.
