'''Alan Shefman''' is currently the Ward 5 Councillor in the ]. Previously, he served as the Vaughan Area 2 School Trustee on the York Region District School Board.

Professionally, Shefman has a long history in human rights in Canada. From 1980 - 1988 he was the National Director of the League for Human Rights of B'nai Brith Canada. In 1988 he took the position of Director of Communications and Education for the Ontario Human Rights Commission. In 1994 he left to the Commission to start his own human rights consulting firm, .
