The instances where "God" was changed to "Yahweh" refer exclusively to the Judeo-Christian god, so the switch was made to reflect that. Considering there are other conceptions of gods, many of which go by "God" in everyday conversation amongst sharers of such conceptions, the change is intended to eliminate vagueness and establish a neutral point of view. - ] (]) 05:16, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

== Your ] nomination of ]==
I am glad that you now understand the reasoning behind the consensus at the Jesus page about keeping speculative reconstructions out of the lead. that said, I do not see any reason to ammend the names guideline. The key thing at Misplaced Pages is always to give the benefit of the doubt to active editors working on a page when they have discussed an issue and formed a consensus, it does not matter what the topic is, and we do not need to write this in every policy and guideline, everyone knows it. Besides, I read through the guideline and I di dnot see anywhere where it demands that "original" names be conjured up. I went to the section you directed me to and it seems to me to be about contemporary names, where a person place or thing is commonly identified using multiple names. This is quite different from reconstructing some historically "original" name, isn't it? ] | ] 16:22, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Welcome to the first edition of ''The Olive Branch''. This will be a place to semi-regularly update editors active in ] (DR) about some of the most important issues, advances, and challenges in the area. You were delivered this update because you are ], but if you would prefer not to receive any future mailing, just add your name to ].
I assume you mean the name. The basic source is the Bible, Genesis provides an etymology. The Misplaced Pages entry was indeed very confusingly writtn. I made an edit which is accurate to the main source, the Hebrew Bible. I have no idea what the source is for the alleged Aramaic etymology but I do not know it to be wrong and did not delete it - my guess is it is from Midrash Rabbah or the Talmud but I have no idea where. If you ant to work on this I would recommend three things. First, does the Koran provide an alternate etymology? I have no idea but it is worth checking. If it does, I would not ''combine'' it with the Biblical etymology, I would add it. Second, for critical views, the best source is the Anchor Bible volume of Genesis - if critical scholars have alternate etymologies you will find them there. Finally, unless you know someone who can actually search Midrash Rabbah or the Talmud for you, or Mikraot Gedolot which is the authoritative omnibus collection of Rabbinic and medieval Jewish commentaries on the Bible, I would recommend finding the ''Artscroll'' edition of genesis. This is an English translation with VERY Orthodox commentary and the commentary on the name may yeild a Rabbinic or Medieval etymology and you would have the proper source. ] | ] 23:59, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
]
:I do not follow your point. There is no reconstruction - the etymology of Avraham is in Genesis. Of course, thee is much less evidence for Avraham's existence than for Jesus's. Be that as it may I have only ever suggested providing significant views from notable sources concerning Avraham's anme and concerning Jesus' name; my position is consistent and simply in keeping with our core policies. I am surprised that you are even discussing this as you seem not to know what the notable sources are, either for Avraham or for Jesus. ] | ] 06:25, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

== I could use your input! ==

Hello,
I am a new editor on Misplaced Pages. I am interested in Alternative Medicine. I noticed the Burzynski Clinic article, so I tried to add some information to it.I tried to change the first paragraph, but Everything I changed was deleted several times, even though I sourced it. The first paragraph now has no sourcing and their definition of an "antineoplaston", is incorrect, so I tried to find the source and couldn't. So, I added the American Cancer Society's definition.(please see the article)I was told first that the American Cancer Society couldn't be used because it would make people think that the treatment was endorsed ( even though the American Cancer society is already listed as a source). I can't remember the other reason I was given. I tried to post on Dispute Resolution, but it was closed because two of the editors wanted to continue on Talk. We are not getting anywhere and there are about 5 editors that are of the same mindset. Is there anything I can do about this? Thank you!!] (]) 17:46, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

I have reverted , as they seem to be generally incorrect, unencyclopedic, and not supported by the source provided. Specifically, land is not "dirt" (it includes a wide range of materials, primarily rock), it is not uniformly horizontal (following the curve of the planet's surface, and having a wide range of inclines. The phrase "foundation actual to human living" is unclear, and there is no sourced support for land having any "psychic" qualities, whatever that means. The last Wednesday evening of every month, wiki enthusiasts in the San Francisco Bay Area will gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas. We have two brief presentations lined up for our kickoff event in downtown San Francisco:

* The Nueva Upper School recently hosted the first ever high school Misplaced Pages edit-a-thon. We will hear what interests them about Misplaced Pages, what they have learned so far, and what they hope to achieve.
* Photojournalist Kris Schreier Lyseggen, author of ''The Women of San Quentin: The Soul Murder of Transgender Women in Male Prisons,'' will tell us about her work and how she researched the topic.

We allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. We will have beverages and light snacks.

'''''Please note: You must , and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name.''''' The building policy is strict on this point.

Hi folks,

We would like to invite you to this month's '''Bay Area WikiSalon'''. The last Wednesday evening of every month, wiki enthusiasts gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas.

We make sure to allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. Free Wi-Fi is available so bring your editing devices. We will have beverages and light snacks. We will also have a brief presentation for your education and possible enjoyment:

* Former EFF intern Marta Belcher will discuss crowdsourcing her Stanford Law School graduation speech using a wiki. The "WikiSpeech" was the subject of prominent national media attention in 2015, and more than half of her classmates contributed to writing and editing the commencement address via a wiki.

''Please note: You should'' '''''''''', ''and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name.'' The building policy is strict on the I.D. part. This also helps us figure out how much food and drink to bring in! Feel free to stop by even if only to say a quick hello, but you might have to give us a last minute call if you forget to RSVP. Also, don't be shy about hitting us up if you have thoughts on speakers or wiki-related activities.

*It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, ''etc.''), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Steve: As you can tell, there's a lot of mishegas over any criticism of Barack Obama, and a number of editors treat like an infidel any editor who doesn't worship at the temple of God Jr. A word of advice: as tempting as it is to be sarcastic to editors who are making profoundly poor POV-pushing arguments, in the long run, you'll be much better off and much more persuasive if you take the highest ground you possibly can, and give them one less thing to complain about. Steve, I'm a new editor, and you obviously have been working on the project way longer than I have, so I don't mean to come off as patronizing. However, your tactics, which seem to be out of frustration, are getting much tougher to defend. Your goal to remove systemic bias is an admirable one and I'll also note you are a Barack Obama voter, but you're playing right into these guys' hands. I don't know much about Misplaced Pages culture, but I can relate to being a veteran in an organization (real organization, not virtual) and losing my cool (rather severely in retrospect) when people did not understand the points I was trying to make. Response

- 69.85.216.188 (talk) 05:16, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

When you began discussing moving this well-used redirect, did it not occur to you to drop a line to the person that created it?

More importantly, that redirect was around for a very long time and was much used. Apparently, the old uses have been tidied up, which is great, but what about all the Wikipedians who continue to use it for the old use? How do you propose keeping on top of people inadvertently misusing it with the result of others being confused? --Dweller (talk) 01:26, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

I could use your input!

Hello, I am a new editor on Misplaced Pages. Thank you!!Docia49 (talk) 17:46, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Your edits to Land

I have reverted your edits to Land, as they seem to be generally incorrect, unencyclopedic, and not supported by the source provided. Also, I see no reason to hide the referenced material from the lede, stating that land, "sometimes referred to as dry land, is the solid surface of the Earth, that is not covered by water". Cheers! bd2412 T 14:40, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Intel (disambiguation)

The article Intel (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Although there is nothing very wrong with having this page, I've already implemented a better disambiguation alternative: Hatnote disambiguation. (See WP:DAB.) As such, this page is redundant. Why should the reader spend a click and come here when he or she can simply go straight to the disambiguated destination?

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. SF edit-a-thons on March 7 and 8

ArtAndFeminism (3/7) and International Women's Day (3/8)!

Dear fellow Wikipedian,

In celebration of WikiWomen's History Month, the SF Bay Area Misplaced Pages community has two events in early March -- please consider attending!

First, we have an ArtAndFeminism edit-a-thon, which will take place at the Kadist Art Foundation from 12 noon to 6pm on Saturday, March 7. We'll be one of many sites worldwide participating in this edit-a-thon on March 7th. So join us as we help improve Misplaced Pages's coverage of women artists and their works!

Second, we will be celebrating International Women's Day with the International Women's Day edit-a-thon on Sunday, March 8 from 1pm to 5pm at the Wikimedia Foundation. Our editing focus will be on women, of course!

I hope to see you there! Rosiestep (talk) - via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:06, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Parallel History Project

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Parallel History Project requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Speedy deletion nomination of Hard fort

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Hard fort requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Misplaced Pages:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

A reminder regarding editing restrictions imposed by ArbCom

As you no doubt remember, as a consequence of a 2010 ArbCom case concerning you, you were explicitly required to cite sources for all content you add to articles. Since this restriction has never been lifted your recent creation of unsourced articles on Snap (military) and Expressive power clearly violate the ArbCom ruling. I suggest that you bear this in mind in future, since I suspect that given your past history the community is unlikely to show much more patience with you. AndyTheGrump (talk) 19:16, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Article stubbing is not a crime, as it takes time to write a global compendium project. I understand that you may not happy there in Bristol, but if the aristos-kleptos money they pay you was worth a nickel they would have built that nice and easy to engineer walking bridge to Paris by now and have hired actual Europeans to do it, (jobs!). Rather than mooching off the Free (democratic honor, try it) people's of the world, and the work we provide, try the opposite. -Stevertigo (t | c, ed. 2002) 14:30, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
Stevertigo, if you can't immediately add sources to Snap (military) and Expressive power they may qualify for speedy deletion under WP:CSD#G5. Your ban does not allow you to add unsourced material. Let us know if you plan to address this. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 15:01, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Please join us in San Francisco!
A Misplaced Pages panel discussion about journalism
Panel discussion at a recent Misplaced Pages & Journalism event.

The last Wednesday evening of every month, wiki enthusiasts in the San Francisco Bay Area will gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas. We have two brief presentations lined up for our kickoff event in downtown San Francisco:

  • The Nueva Upper School recently hosted the first ever high school Misplaced Pages edit-a-thon. We will hear what interests them about Misplaced Pages, what they have learned so far, and what they hope to achieve.
  • Photojournalist Kris Schreier Lyseggen, author of The Women of San Quentin: The Soul Murder of Transgender Women in Male Prisons, will tell us about her work and how she researched the topic.

We allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. We will have beverages and light snacks.

Please note: You must register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict on this point.

Special announcement (secret for now but come and find out more!)
  • Join in on an in person Wikidojo!
Are you curious how your peers approach writing a Misplaced Pages article? This exercise, pioneered by Wikipedians Nikola Kalchev and Vassia Atanassova in 2015 and conducted in many places around the world, will help us all - from first-time wiki users to veteran Wikipedians - share ideas, while building an article together. If you have ideas (relating to Bay Area history, ideally) about a new article we could build (stubs and short existing articles are fine), please submit them ahead of time to coordinator Pete Forsyth. (User talk page or email is fine.)
Announcements and impromptu topics are welcome, too!

A Misplaced Pages panel discussion about journalism

Hi folks,

We would like to invite you to this month's Bay Area WikiSalon.

  • Former EFF intern Marta Belcher will discuss crowdsourcing her Stanford Law School graduation speech using a wiki. The "WikiSpeech" was the subject of prominent national media attention in 2015, and more than half of her classmates contributed to writing and editing the commencement address via a wiki.

Please note: You should register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict on the I.D. part. This also helps us figure out how much food and drink to bring in! Feel free to stop by even if only to say a quick hello, but you might have to give us a last minute call if you forget to RSVP. Also, don't be shy about hitting us up if you have thoughts on speakers or wiki-related activities.

Speedy deletion nomination of Aji

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Aji, requesting that it be deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Proposed deletion of Quinoa (disambiguation)

Notice

The article Quinoa (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Delete per WP:ONEOTHER. A disambiguation page is unnecessary; hatnote can be used.

Israeli Children moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Israeli Children, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Misplaced Pages). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Misplaced Pages's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
