Kim became involved in a ] with Tasha Andrews (]) and Robbie Hunter (]) when he revealed his feelings for Tasha. Tasha told Kim that she could only ever consider him a friend and later Kim and Robbie also became friends. Kim was shocked when his ex-girlfriend came to Summer Bay with a baby, Charles Jonathan, who she claimed was Kim's son. However he later discovered that he was not Charlie's biological father. It was then that Hayley discovered that she was pregnant and did not know if Kim or Scott was the baby's father. Kim revealed to a furious Zoe that he may be the father of Hayley's child. Scott, Hayley and Kim did a paternity test to find out who was the baby's father. Zoe, a nurse at the hospital where the tests were conducted, found out that Scott was the baby's father but changed the results to say that Kim was the father. After Hayley and Scott broke up and Zoe was revealed to be the Summer Bay Stalker, Kim and Hayley became engaged. During this time Kim became curious of his mother's disappearance and began searching for her with the help of Morag Bellingham (]). Eventually his father confessed to Kim that he had an older brother, Jonathan, whom his mother had drowned in the bath, claiming that it was an accident. However, on one occasion Barry returned home from work and discovered his wife trying to drown Kim. In a fit of rage he killed her and disposed of the body. He told Kim that he could tell the police, but Kim decided that his father had suffered enough and agreed to keep his secret. Hayley (now ]) later pulled out of the wedding at the last minute, admitting to Kim that she was still in love with Scott. She later gave birth to her son Noah, named after her late husband. Scott got a job offer in ] and he and Hayley planned to move there and raise Noah. However Kim, still believing that he was baby Noah's father, got a court order making this impossible. Hayley, Kim and Scott appeared before a judge where Hayley argued that she had Noah's best interests at heart. Kim walked out and was hit by a car. While he was in hospital it was discovered that he could not possibly be Noah's father because of his blood type. Another paternity test revealed that Scott was Noah's father and Hayley, Scott and Noah left for France.

While in hospital Kim was treated by ] (]). After leaving he became involved in drugs in an attempt to forget the pain of losing Noah and Hayley. Rachel who is nearly ten years older than Kim, became his ] and the two began to have romantic feelings for each other. At this time Rachel was offered the chance to work in ] and practice psychiatry again but decided against it because she wanted to stay in Summer Bay with Kim during his father's trial.
