At Ka, the project name/namespace is still the default name ''Misplaced Pages''. I would like to change it to the georgian correspondant ''ვიკიპედია''. As I read in ], talking about changing the LangXX.php file, they say:

The name should be something that distinguishes the encyclopedia from the community pages. since you're among the most respected wikipedians out there, I have a question for you. As of late, the ] entry has been going a number of modifications regarding it's ''poverty'' section. To summarize, that section provided a very NPOV analyses of the roots of poverty, so after a bit of discussion, we decided it would be best to remove the NPOV analyses, maintaining only the basic facts (which has happened, albeit due to the one sided actions of a user...). We where thinking of creating a new page were we could present different POV's analyses, explicitly stating that they are POV (after all, NPOV in such things is near impossible), so what do you think? :Hello, sorry to bother you again, but as I see it, there is a serious problem in this case, because there are some many different POV's, all of which can be dully supported by experts. The problem lies with the fact that practically any area of study of humanities (which, obviously, includes anything from economics, sociology, history...) can legitimately present their own analyses on the question in hand ("Roots and causes of Brazilian / 3rd world poverty"), using their respective lines of thought, and come to completely different conclusions. Worse, within each field, there are innumerous experts (who can be called as such within the definitions presented in the tutorial) who will disagree with each other! In such a multitude of opinions, it would seem impossible to manage to produce something that could be considered NPOV for such a question. If that is the case, then perhaps would it be better to simply not include any such analyses within the article and maintain only the readily agreed facts? In all honesty, if the NPOV is to be maintained, I can’t see any other solution... Thanks for the help.--]

I've started a ] for a sister project called "Wikitour" that would lend itself directly to Misplaced Pages. Whereas Commons hosts individual images of places that have articles on Misplaced Pages, Wikitour would host "virtual tours" of these places, such as castles, museums, galleries, caverns, mountains, college campuses, typical mosques or churches, archaeological sites, etc.

The basic idea is as follows: a user submits numerous photos of a notable place, which are organized into pages/subpages to create a navigable environment similar to that in ], ], or graphical adventures; the navigation system would be on Wikitour, while the files themselves would be on Commons, with a link in the respective article on WP; Basically, any topic that has an article on Misplaced Pages has the possibility of its own entry in Wikitour. Users could also submit photos of an object from various sides/angles/distances, rather than a place.

My latest email on this topic mentioned the logos you'd made (along with many other examples), noting that the CVU logo is now widely in use, with no conclusion from the Board, and that I didn't think it was an issue based on past precedents. No comments were made in response to this to suggest these logos were not ok. I can't give you "Board approval" since the Board has no official logo use policy yet, but I can say no one on the Board has objected to ]. The images are being used, among other things, for ], on ], and on infoboxes like the one found on ] to suggest that there is Foundation support for recommendations of database locks, accusations of sockpuppetry, a sort of Misplaced Pages "terror alert" system, and the gathering of "intel" on users. Obviously the logo should never be used to imply Foundation support for something that we've not expressed support for, nor for implying the Foundation is involved in something it's not, like the blocking of users. Since logos ara subject of these days, I also wanted to ask a question. Tr wikipedia is getting close to 10,000 article. And community wants to put this news into our Main Page. One guy propesed a picture, which is basically picture of "10,000" , but he used wikipedia logo as zeros. I know wikipedia logo is copyrighted but I was wondering if this type of usage in wikimedia sites is allowed or not. If not is there a way to get permission. Or any other suggestion. :Yes, I'm sure that's fine. Many other Wikipedias have done similar things. There's no logo use policy, so I can't give an "official" answer, but for the purpose of highlighting a milestone in this way, precendent would suggest it's not problematic. ]] 14:25, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

I've been thinking for a while about starting a ], where people put up monetary bounties for articles to become featured, but where the money all goes to the Wikimedia Foundation if the conditions are met. I have a draft at ].

It seems to me that the positives would be that it would encourage donations and encourage the creation of featured articles, and it would fill a gap - that people tend to look for a psychological "reward" when they've worked hard for Misplaced Pages. But my questions are: 1, Do you think there are any legal problems with this? 2, Do you think this goes against the Wiki philosophy? And 3, Do you see any other problems? (I'm asking several long-term and knowlegeable Wikipedian about this.)

I just closed an AfD as DELETE ]. However, a similar(''some'' of it is redemable as it ''is'' common knowledge and the terms are used in numerous maintream books) article ] had KEEP. The intro to '''sexual slang''' article is better, ''but'' the rest drifts off into O.R. just like the "article" that I just deleted.

We really need to get a standard for these, are they OK or not? And how should they be done? WP:NOR and the fact that Misplaced Pages is not a random assortment of info (also policy) present huge problems for such articles. I could say 656 means "sex using X and Y and position Z" and there is '''nothing''' to back it up. I just don't think this stuff belongs at Misplaced Pages. If one wants to search for such things, then use Google.

Hopefully, my decision will be a landmark one, so we can get all this O.R. nonsense off Misplaced Pages.

More generally, I believe that '''r'''evealing '''IP''' (''rIPping'') vandals should be an option in the most disruptive cases of sockpuppet vandalism (especially vandalbots) that prevents Misplaced Pages from functioning normally (causing articles to be permanently protected, for instance). This would be an alternative to the earlier proposal to give more users Checkuser privilege, with the advantage that the privacy of ordinary users (and even garden-variety vandals) would be as secure as before.

Publicly revealing the IP would allow the grunt work of liaising with ISP's abuse contact person to be delegated to a "ToS committee" (Terms of Service) of ordinary users (without checkuser privilege), so reporting of terms of service violations to ISPs and followup could be done more systematically and effectively than is the case today. -- ] 20:50, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

You see, all the stats and rankings for all wikis are all skewed by the fact that the "numberofarticles" counter for the Afar wikipedia for reasons I can't explain, reads "6", when the actual number of articles there happens to be more like "0"... Could you help me and some other users with the page ]? For the past few days, an anonymous user has been inserting lunatic fringe tax-protester arguments into the article. Despite repeated requests for him to stop—and attempts by one user to reason with him—he insists on continually disrupting the article. (Many of his edits are simply pasted in (very badly) from tax protester sites (e.g., , taken from )). These edits have completely disrupted ] and it does not seem possible to reason with him. Could it be that ] is identical with multiple hardbanned ]? He frequently deletes contributions by others and aggressively attacks users and even administrators and members of the arbitration committee if their opinions are not in line with his personal view. For instance, he repeatedly, and falsely, claimed that my edits are fabricated, unfounded, or unwarranted and therefore must be removed. On 7 November 2003 ], obviously an Elvis Presley fan like Ted Wilkes, deleted a passage relating to a claim by David Bret that Elvis may have been gay. See . The same user added some denigrating remarks on Bret's book to the related discussion page, which were similar to those later written by Ted Wilkes. See .
In November 2003, NightCrawler was hardbanned. See . But NightCrawler reappeared as ] creating a new, denigrating article on biographer David Bret. See . This biased article was rewritten by me on 4 April 2004. See . In the meantime, JillandJack was hardbanned.
On 20 April 2005, some different comment concerning author David Bret and his book was added. See . This was repeatedly deleted by IP 66.61.69.65. See, for instance, , , . Administrator ] was forced to restore this comment. See . Since May 2005 there was an edit war between Ted Wilkes and me concerning the article on ] and particularly his book, ''Elvis: The Hollywood Years'', presumably because of Bret's claim that Elvis had homosexual leanings - a claim Ted Wilkes didn't like from the beginning. On 5 May, Ted Wilkes reinstated, without further commentary, the biased version by JillandJack thereby deleting a link to a positive ''Guardian'' review of a book written by Bret. See . Significantly, Ted Wilkes repeatedly reverted the article to the version he preferred, i.e., exactly the version JillandJack had created, accusing me of distortions, fabrications, being a vandal, etc. See , , , , , , , , , , etc. etc. It should also be noted that Ted Wilkes repeatedly violated the 3RR in the past and was blocked for doing so.
